Moth Traps

Moth traps are the best solution for certain types of Moths that can be more difficult to control than others. Some types of moths, such as clothes moths and pantry moths, require a little more work to get rid of. You can use moth traps to reduce the populations and monitor moths like these and to help get rid of your infestation and keep a year-round eye on the moth activity.

How Moth Traps Work
Moth traps use pheromone lures to entice moths to the traps. Generally, a moth trap will only attract one of the two sexes, leaving one half of the moths unaffected by the lure. The traps will have a sticky substance on them to trap the moths, interrupting the mating cycle and ideally reducing and eliminating the infestation.

Using Moth Traps

Moth traps generally last from 4 to 10 weeks, but always read the instructions to make sure when you should change your traps. Here are some things to remember when using these traps:

  • Also pay attention to which type of moths can be trapped. Pantry moth traps can attract Indian meal moths, Mediterranean flour moths, almond moths, and raisin moths (as well as some grain beetles), and clothes moth traps can trap case making clothes moths and webbing clothes moths, but might not trap both types.
  • These traps have two uses. Depending on the size of your infestation, you can reduce moth populations by using these traps. You must be vigilant in checking and changing out traps if you are using this as a method of control, and use other control tactics, like protecting vulnerable items and cleaning, as well.
  • The other use for moth traps is to monitor moth populations. You can place the traps in areas you have seen moths in the past, or in any vulnerable area (like closets and pantries). Checking these traps periodically can help you detect a moth infestation as soon as moths appear, enabling you to take action quickly and protect your items.
  • When placing these traps, try to put them in areas where a large number of moths have been seen. Try to move the traps as little as possible and put them in relatively the same spot each time you change them. This will help get a more accurate picture of the population.
  • Traps act as a great alternative to using insecticides, especially when you’re dealing with pests near sensitive items like food and clothing. They’re completely safe to use around your family and pets, since there are no harmful chemicals involved.
