Mountian Pine Beetle Control

I have noticed small white tags or what appears to be white paper that have been attached to the bark of the pine trees here in Lincoln, MT. to control the mountain pine beetle. I have looked almost everywhere, and I have not found this device. It is supposed to make the beetle not attach to the tree that it is attaching to. Can you please inform me as to what this product is? Thank you.

Answer:

We honestly have not seen any device like your described that is commercially available. What you are describing is most likely a pheromone trap, and those are usually only deployed by the forestry departments and agricultural departments. You may want to check with your local cooperative extension office to see if they may have these monitoring devices available.
