Nick from New Orleans, La writes

My house is built on top of brick piers about two feet off the ground. Would I need to bait under the house?

Under the house is crawl space with nothing between the ground and the floor joists. Located in New Orleans where termites are a serious concern.

Answer:

We would not recommend using the termite bait stations due to the fact that you have a crawlspace and are on piers. To make sure you prevent termites you want to use a liquid Termiticide like Termidor. Please review our article Barrier and Soil Treatment. Foundational walls and piers can be treated with a termiticide (Termidor SC) at the soil level: Dig a trench in the soil adjacent to the structure, 6 inches deep by 6 inches wide. Soak the soil on both sides of the foundation walls at the rate indicated on the product label. Using a 5 gallon bucket is easier than a sprayer for this task. Loosen the soil on the bottom of the trench with a spade for additional penetration. Replace the soil in the trench, being careful to mix each shovelful with the diluted termiticide.
