It is the ideal kit for treating 1-2 bedroom apartments. Why do I need to use so many different products?
It is important to treat the many different areas where bedbugs hide. Each product included in the kit has a specific function to help eliminate a bedbug infestation. We do not recommend relying on one product or treatment method since bugs may avoid areas treated with certain products, or they may become resistant to certain chemicals. It is also crucial to thoroughly Inspect the treatment area for possible bed bug harborages, and to follow all the Treatment steps, including follow-up treatments.

Before applying any chemicals, it is crucial to prepare the area for treatment by removing clutter, vacuuming, steaming (optional), and encasing mattresses and box springs. Taking time for these preparation steps will make your treatments much more successful. Using the products in your Bed Bug Kit, treat all cracks, crevices, voids, tufts, seams, and folds where bed bugs may be found. Always keep pets, children, and other people out of the treatment area until the products have dried - usually about an hour.
STEP 1 - SPRAY - Zenprox Aerosol
*Zenprox Aerosol is a ready-to-use product that provides quick knockdown of bed bugs.
*Zenprox Aerosol can be applied at any angle, making treatment of remote areas easier.
*Use the included straw tool to treat tight spots where bed bugs hide, such as cracks and crevices in furniture, along baseboards, and around hardware in doorframes.
*Apply Zenprox as a spot or crack and crevice treatment to the following areas where evidence of bed bugs is found, contacting as many bugs and eggs directly as possible:
- Around bed and furniture legs - Inspect wheels, casters, posts, and legs of all furniture.
- Behind wall fixtures
- Under floor lamps
- Cracks and crevices along baseboards and floor moldings
- Beneath floor coverings and along the edges of wall-to-wall carpeting
- On infested mattress and box springs - Remove linens, then apply to tufts, seams, folds and edges. Do not treat entire surface area of mattresses.
- Cracks and joints in bed frames, headboards, dressers, shelves, and other furniture
- Picture frames and wall coverings - Remove from the wall and treat cracks and crevices on and behind these items.
- Around door frames, window frames, and thresholds
- Upholstered furniture - Apply only to the infested tufts, seams, folds, and edges, but do not apply to flat surfaces where prolonged human contact will occur.
*Do not remake beds or replace items on shelves or in drawers until spray has dried.
STEP 2 - DUST - Bellow Hand Duster and CimeXa Insecticide Dust
*Once your spray application has dried, you can apply the insecticide dust.
*Using insecticide dust can be very messy, so be sure to wear gloves and consider having a moist paper towel handy to clean up excess dust.
*To fill the Bellow Hand Duster, remove the black rubber stopper on top of the duster. Gently unscrew the white top of the CimeXa dust, then slowly tap the dust into the duster. Fill the duster up to halfway (or less), so there is plenty of room for the dust to move inside the duster.
*You may want to add a few small objects such as coins, pebbles, or marbles to prevent clumping inside the duster.
*Replace the black stopper so that it fits snugly into the opening. Remove the black rubber cap from the end of the extension wand. To apply dust, hold the duster upside down, so that the extension wand is on top, then gently squeeze the bellows between the thumb and fingers.
*Apply CimeXa Dust to voids and other hidden areas where it will not be disturbed, such as:
- Behind electrical faceplates - Remove switch and electrical plates to gain access to wall voids.
- Along baseboards - Treat any cracks in, above, or below baseboards where the tip of the duster will fit. Also treat under the edges of carpeting where you are able.
- Headboards - Remove from the wall or dismantle to allow thorough treatment.
- Drawers and furniture - Remove drawers and treat along tracks and support, as well as the corners and edges of the cabinet. Also treat in cracks and crevices on the undersides of cabinets and other furniture, and in any hollow areas such as bed frame tubing.
- Box Springs and upholstered furniture - Check for tears in fabric backing or other hollow areas where the tip of the duster may fit, and treat these areas.
- Behind wall fixtures - Remove fixtures from walls and treat behind each one.
*Be careful to avoid over-dusting. CimeXa Dust is very fine, and it only takes an extremely small amount to kill a bed bug.
*If dust escapes into open areas, simply wipe up the excess dust with a moist paper towel.
*Do not apply dust as a broadcast or in open areas where it will be moved around as it can become an irritant.
STEP 3 - CONTACT KILL - Sterifab
*Sterifab does not require dilution, but you should shake the container well before spraying.
*Sterifab will kill bed bugs and other insects on contact only, so it is only active when it is wet.
*Because of this short action, you can apply Sterifab almost anywhere bed bugs are found.
*Use Sterifab in areas where you see live bed bugs, especially where you cannot use residual products, such as:
- On the resting areas of sofas, chairs, mattresses, or other upholstered furniture
- Open areas on carpets or floors where live bugs are seen
- Walls, baseboards, or corners
*Sterifab will stay active as an insecticide, virucide, fungicide, bactericide, mildewcide, germicide, etc. as long as it is wet. Sterifab leaves no residual after it has dried.
*Do not apply to clothing items or directly to people or animals.
*Use as needed to spot treat live insects.
STEP 4 - TREAT CLOTHING AND LINENS
*Although this step does not NOT involve any chemicals in your kit, it is a crucial part of your treatment.
*Clothing, linens, or other fabric items in the infested rooms should be removed in bags, then washed and dried or dry cleaned.
*Do not return items to the infested areas until there has been no evidence of bed bugs for 30 days.
*Failure to make sure all items being returned to the room are bedbug free may cause a reinfestation.
*Objects that cannot be washed can be put into a bag or bin with a Nuvan Pro Strip to eliminate bedbugs. The items must stay sealed for 4 weeks in the bag or bin. If this treatment will not work for you because of the time it takes to eliminate the bed bugs you also have the option of using bed bug heater like the ZappBug Heater. Place your items inside the unit where they will be heated up to 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Within a few hours, all bed bugs will be killed.
STEP 5 - REPEAT! REPEAT! REPEAT!
*Repeat Step 1 (Zenprox Aerosol) every 7-10 days days until no one is getting bitten and there is no further evidence such as live bugs, cast skins or fresh blood spots found. This is absolutely crucial! Depending on the severity of the infestation it can take a minimum of 7-8 weeks, including repeat treatments. Failure to be thorough can prolong the bed bug control process and can make it harder to eliminate them.
*Use Sterifab as frequently as needed to kill live bugs on contact.

Worked like a charm!
By Sane on 09/01/2008
For all those suffering from bed bug-induced anxiety, stress, and insomnia, the New York Bed Bug Kit will alleviate your misery. A little over a year ago we moved into a brownstone apartment in Brooklyn, completely naive to the prevalence of bed bugs in Brooklyn. It was only a few days after we moved in that I started waking up in the morning with trails of bites. I had no idea, I thought they were mosquito bites until the tenant upstairs started complaining and showed me large swollen welts all over her body that I realized we had a more serious problem. We contacted the landlord who immediately arranged for an exterminator but to no avail. After two exterminations the buggers just kept coming back, the walls infested. Moreover, the infestation in our apartment was exacerbated by the tenants who lived there prior on account of how filthy they kept the place. After 15 loads of laundry, daily vacuuming, sleepless nights, and the onset of a serious psychological breakdown (!) we did some research of our own and came across the NY bed bug kit. It worked like a charm - we haven't had any problems for nearly a year now. If the infestation is severe however, there's a good chance that the neighboring apartments are affected and it's likely the bugs will eventually come back. So I suggest, in addition to the kit, particularly the Drione dust which we found most useful. You seal your baseboards (every crack for that matter) with caulking and the holes around the drain pipes with expanding foam. I also suggest a water proof vinyl covering for your mattress and if you do have a box spring, get rid of it. As far as storing your clothes and items in plastic for a year, there's no need, the kit will take care of that, just apply it and rest easy.

This is what you need!
By Afs on 03/05/2007
Attention, NY. This New York Bed Bug Kit is what you need. If you are part of the bedbug epidemic, and lots of you are, you are better off doing this yourself than relying on cheap landlords and slow public services. The KEY (#1) to using these products effectively, and solving your bedbug problem, is to REPEAT TREATMENTS EVERY TWO WEEKS, and be consistent about it. One kit lasted me for three treatments, before I had to replenish one can of spray. Expect this process to take about 6-8 weeks, and don't get discouraged in the meantime. KEY #2 is: You should also be sure to add the GENTROL IGR concentrate to this kit - you mix it with water and spritz it around. You can use the pressurized sprayers for sale on this site, if you want, or even water spray-bottles for smaller treatments (adjust the dilution accordingly!). The GENTROL is CRITICAL, because it will interrupt the reproductive cycle, and after three treatments, you'll even notice that the bites are smaller and less itchy, because the bugs aren't maturing anymore. And then, one day, they're gone! This can be done. Our landlord made one treatment, and the bites returned, and the landlord didn't. We got this kit, and I treated every two weeks for two months, and then twice more to clear up any unseen stragglers, and now we're completely bedbug free. Didn't throw our stuff out, didn't pay hundreds of dollars for every exterminator visit, and didn't lose our minds waiting for the landlord to act. You can do it too. Get the kit, get the Gentrol, go get em.

No more bedbugs!
By Twicebitten on 07/09/2008
I purchased this kit when I saw four bedbugs in my apartment. I was bitten once on the shoulder and twice on my leg. After three exterminators told me I'd have to pay almost $1000 to have my tiny apartment treated, I decided to give the New York Bed bug kit a try. I spread the dust and sprayed down my bed and couches thoroughly with Bedlam and the other spray. I sprayed all of my baseboards, cracks, and crevices as well. I vacuumed both couches, the floors and the bed almost everyday for two weeks. I also covered my bed in a queen-sized vinyl cover. I was NEVER bitten again. After I did the first procedure, I waited for two weeks and did it again! I also put down glue traps to catch any stray bedbugs. So far, I haven't seen anything or been bitten again. I will do this procedure two more times to be on the safe side.

I'm happy to say that the NY Bed Bug Kit (with Gentrol Concentrate) did indeed clear up our bedbug problem; we were particularly diligent about keeping a regular treatment schedule - every two weeks. We were able to keep the treatments themselves pretty simple- only in the bed area, and without major disruptions elsewhere in the house, and without having to throw out any belongings. I believe it came from your site which helped me realize that if the treatments are small but regular, it is as good or better than a single, massive dose.

And thus the end arrived.
By Robert in Ancram, NY on 09/06/2010
Omg! Yes, now this is what I'm talking about. I'd been working at a summer camp and we were living a losing battle against the bed bugs. My arms looked more like red bubble wrap than anything else. Which is kind of unpleasant. After a few attempts by professionals, I decided to see what I could do about it myself. And like the saying goes, if you want something done, do it yourself. It worked splendidly! Bed bugs kept on creeping out of the walls in dying throngs and I loved it. It was beautiful. I shall always cherish the day they went away. This kit is extremely useful. Some notes though, the spray cans will empty rather quickly, especially if you have a lot of areas to cover (I lived in a cabin, rather big one) so buy a few more just in case. Dunno if the other stuff worked, but I applied sufficient amounts of it. Apart from the growth inhibitor/thingy. Because I didn't have any means of distributing it. Oh well. Maybe some more Steri-Fab as well, that stuff's extremely effective if you want an instant kill. But all in all, very efficient and easy to use! Bed bug be gone!

Started working immediately
By B in San Francisco, CA on 09/15/2014
I had noticed bed bugs for a few months at home and I was using DIY natural methods to try to fight them. I bought DE (Diatomaceous earth) per my sisters suggestion after she got a bed bug scare in New York. I applied it, but I don't think I was doing it properly so I did more research. I had a bed bug inspector come to my home to make sure I knew where those nasty bugs were at. Turns out that they were only in one bedroom (mine). I looked more into the cost of getting a chemical treatment and it was very expensive. I ran into domyownpestcontrol.com and looked at the product offerings. I decided to go with the New York Bed Bug Kit as the area I had to treat was small. I treated the room first by putting all of my clothes in the dryer for 10 min and then I steamed every piece of furniture and corner of the room. I followed the instructions for application. The process took about three hours. I did see one bed bug a few hours later and then another three days after but one was dead and the other was dying. It has been three weeks and I have not see another bug. This weekend I'll be doing a second treatment just to be sure that they are gone forever.

Dead Bedbugs = Happy Wife
By Pat in Arlington, VA on 06/24/2012
I was a little skeptical at first about ordering this from the website. But when I looked at how much pest-control companies wanted, I figured we would give this a try first. I am so glad we did! We are two treatments into the system and there is not a bedbug insight! As soon as we made the first treatment my wife found relief from the constant bites. Two weeks later right before we treated again she had one more bite but after that second treatment we haven't seen a single one. I also ordered the Gentrol IGR concentrate and have been using it as well. I highly recommend this kit as it includes everything you need to get the problem under control. And compared to the thousands of dollars that pest-control companies want to charge, it's a real deal!

New York Bed Bug Kit
By William in Cocoa Beach, Florida on 04/30/2012
I had a professional pest control man look at what I had. He started talking about, "...drilling holes in the walls...," and "...get rid of your matress and box springs...," etc. I started seeing bills of $10,000+. I ordered the New York Bed Bug Kit, used only the Bedlam cans, and I have reduced my bed bug problem by 90%!!! I still have bed bugs, but NOTHING like I had before I ordered from "I Do My Own Pest Control." My plans are to use the rest of the New York Bed Bug Kit and then order some more Bedlam, in case I need it. I say, before you turn a pest control company loose on your problem, TRY "I Do My Own Pest Control." I swear, it works and I also swear that, if it didn't work for me, there isn't enough money in the world for me to write this. You owe it to yourself to TRY "I Do My Own Pest Control" before you hire a professional pest control company.

Two weeks in and things are under control!
By Js in New York, NY on 06/22/2011
I'm giving this kit 4 out of 5 stars because after 2 1/2 weeks we are still getting bit here and there, but I realize this is going to take some time. We have made a TON of progress! Before I could go into my son's room anytime between 10 pm and 6 am and find at least one bug walking on his bed. I have only gotten bit twice since the first treatment. I followed all of the instructions (and the detailed instructions were great), and I am no longer seeing the bed bugs. He gets a bite here and there, maybe a few a week. I am going to continue to follow up every two weeks and I'm hoping in another month to be completely rid of these things! I was so upset, these things were consuming me, and things are so much better now.

Don't waste your money. Bought the New York bug kit and it said it would do two bedrooms and we did. We were also supposed to repeat the proceed with touch ups every two weeks. Well we didn't have enough of the stuff to even do that and we are still infested with these things.

So far, so good!

We purchased the NY BB Kit after our home became infested. We did have an exterminator come as well, and we follow up with the kit. So far, so good - it's been 3 weeks. Very easy to use.

If you have bedbugs don't hesitate to get any one of these bed bug kits. They really do work. The cost of an exterminator to come in and do it is $1600.

Helped me greatly
By S.b. on 04/25/2008
Just moved into an apt with roommates and my room is bedbug infested! I called your company and got some GREAT advice from one of your reps. She explained why there was a difference in product that can be shipped to NYC. I truly believe that your products will help me greatly since my exterminator uses some of the ones you have on your site and the ones that he did not use were mentioned to me by him.

QWhat will the return address on the package appear as? I am concerned that my neighbors will be wary of me.
AFirst, let us tell you that our packages are very discreet. We only use plain brown boxes or priority mail boxes, there are no "pest company" logos on the outside of the box. The return label does usually say the name of our company, but it is not big or in a bright color or anything. Also, upon request we can make the return shipping label just say "shipping, shipping" and the name of our company will not be visible at all. If you wish for your package to not have our company name, you can request that option in the "order comments" section while you are placing your order. This box is on the same page where you select your shipping options. If placing your order on the phone, please let the representative know that you would like your package to be discreet.

QHow do bed bugs move from room to room?
Do I really have to worry about treating my couches out in my living room, if the only place I'm getting bites from is my bed? Do the bugs attach to the clothes I'm wearing and transfer that way? Do I have to worry about bringing them into someone elses house on my clothing?
AThe reason bed bug populations have exploded all over the country is their ability to move easily on people and in their belongings. Bed Bugs in New York have been found in cabs, movie theatres, clothing stores, etc. They can easily attach to clothing or belongings and be transported without detection sometimes. It is very important to be very thorough and treat any places or surfaces that you congregate or site for a period of time, including the couch.
QOut of the Bed Bug Kit, which product goes first?
AIt does not really matter which you use first because all of the products are typically used in different places. For the most part though, you typically apply the Steri-Fab and Bedlam first (the sprays) and then the dust product last after the sprays are dry.
QIs the New York Bed Bug Kit dangerous for humans?
ANo, none of our products included in the New York Bedbug Kit are harmful to humans or pets when the directions are followed correctly. You should always keep children and pets out of the room while you are applying the products. Once the products have dried, usually after 1 hour, then it is perfectly safe to allow children and pets back into the room.

Qhow much does this kit cover
we have 4 bedrooms. Can we use just 1 kit for all 4,or do we have to purchase more than one? Please help(we did try a spray 2x in each bedroom and it only worked for a little while)we are getting"ate" up
AThe NY Bedbug Kit is the ideal kit for treating 1-2 bedroom apartments. For larger apartments of homes youw ill need additional product. The Bedbug Kit #3 has more product for treating bigger space and can now got to NY.
QWhy was Zenprox Aerosol selected for this kit?
When compared to Kit #2, Zenprox Aerosol appears to fill the roles of both FenvaStar EcoCap and Bedlam.
AAll of our kits can ship to NY now with the exception of the Commercial Bedbug Kit. We have included the Zenprox Aerosol in this particular kit because many of our NY customers submitted feedback that they simply did not need the bottle of concetrate for the small spaces they were treating.

QWill the beg bug kit kill the eggs also?
AYes, Cimexa dust from the New York Bed bug Kit will Kills Bed Bug Adults and Nymphs Kills Bed Bug Nymphs Hatched from Dusted Eggs kills Pyrethroid-Resistant Bed Bugs. Be sure to Remove bedding and take the bed apart. Treat the interior framework, joints and cracks in the bed frame. Treat the mattress and box spring, paying particular attention to tufts, folds and edges, and the interior framework of the box spring. Remove wall-mounted head boards and treat the back side. Treat picture frames, moldings, hollow furniture legs, cracks and crevices, along baseboards, and any areas with visible signs of infestation, including rugs and carpet. Treat upholstered furniture by removing or lifting (if possible) the cushions and treating the undersurface. Treat the interior framework, cracks and joints of the furniture, and the folds, tufts and edges of cushions and other upholstered areas. Do not treat toys and stuffed animals with product. Treat wall voids by removing electrical switch plate covers to allow access, but don’t apply dust directly in electrical boxes. Apply about ¼ oz of dust to each accessible void.

QWhat is the best place to apply each product in the New York Bedbug Kit?
Do we have to wait that bedlam dry before using sterifab? Can we use both on the bedframe at the same time?
AYou should apply liquids first and allow them to dry before you apply dusts. You can spray Bedlam and Sterifab in the same areas but it would be somewhat redundant to do so. We recommend that you use the Sterifab in the most sensitive areas where you may come into skin contact (upholstered furniture, surface of mattresses) and use the Bedlam directly in cracks in crevices where you might not be able to get the Sterifab to go (joints in furniture, tufts, seams and folds of furniture and mattresses, headboards or foot boards). You can also refer to the Bedbug Guide which came with your kit for even more specific instructions on each product.
