What is Niban Granular Bait and Niban-FG

They are granulated baits containing five percent boric acid as the active ingredient and a combination of both protein and carbohydrate attractants.

What insects will Niban Granular Bait and Niban-FG control?

They are labeled for the control of cockroaches, crickets, silverfish, and ants, including carpenter ants.

Does either bait have an odor?

There is no detectible pesticide odor. The only odor is that of the food based attractant.

Will Niban irritate skin?

No.

What is the difference between Niban Granular Bait and Niban-FG?

Both products consist of the same formulation but have one significant difference. Niban Granular Bait contains only coarse particles; excellent for outdoor broadcast and perimeter applications. Niban-FG is made up of very small particles which allows it to be used in any type of dusting equipment. Niban-FG is excellent for indoor crack and crevice treatments.

How can I apply Niban Granular Bait?

With a mechanical spreader, power duster, plunger type duster or by hand.

What type of equipment is needed to apply Niban-FG?

Any type of dust applicator will work. For crack and crevice treatments, a bellows duster works best. For broadcast applications in attics and crawl spaces, the use of a power duster cuts application time considerably.

Can I use Niban-FG outdoors?

Yes. Small ants and silverfish often invade homes from the exterior. They build up in considerable numbers in flower beds, refuse areas, and under chips adjacent to a structure. It is frequently more effective to treat the source of the problem rather than trying to eliminate them after they have entered. Apply in a two-foot band around the perimeter of the home.

How long will Niban remain effective outdoors?

Based on studies, Niban Granular Bait remained effective until it was exposed to between one and a half and two inches of rainfall.

5 of 5 stars  Effective product
    By Christine on 05/28/2006

Just wanted to say that I am ordering NIBAN granular bait for the second time. It is an effective product and does last through several rainstorms. Last year, we were infected with ants and we suspected an infected bag of mulch may have been the carrier. Diazinon granules were not working and so I called a professional exterminator. I noticed that he used Niban along with a liquid product that this website carries. Of course, when he left, I Googled 'Niban' and up popped this website and the product. It's been very good for us here in Yonkers. I am now ordering a "sample" for my neighbor. I also fling some Niban into my pachysandra because I noticed lots of carpenter ants. So far, the pachysandra has not died and we've had rain. Good product! Read the label and use garden gloves.

5 of 5 stars  Control of Camelback Crickets
By Alan in Arlington, VA on 10/25/2010
    Verified Purchase

The bait was intended for camelback crickets in the crawl space under my house. I did not scatter the product all over, but I just used a small amount of it in a tray. I see tracks in the tray and I did see a few live crickets there. They are gone now, and the bait must have eliminated them. I don't see the dead crickets because they jump great distances and have gone to distant locations to die.

I had a professioanl exterminator treat for carpenter ants. This is the exact product he used, he showed it to me and had me smell it. The problem was he didn't use enough or place it in the right spot. I purchased this product at a fraction of the cost, applied it where needed and....no more ants! This website is a great resource and it is saved in my favorites.

5 of 5 stars  Haven't seen a camel cricket since!
By Anne in DC on 12/19/2010
    Verified Purchase

Product was shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. I used it immediately in the basement to control a camel cricket problem (we were starting to see 1 per day in the basement). I haven't seen a camel cricket since! I also put some under the stove and refrigerator for good measure since it works on cockroaches too - they're not a problem for us but figured I wouldn't want to have to find out about them if they are!

By Mrs. in Maricopa County Arizona on 09/22/2016

We live in the Arizona desert where large sand colored spider crickets and giant cock roaches invaded our home for two years until I found this. We sprinkle it around our home after every storm and it will kill them all even if they crossed the threshold they wouldn't make it far before dying. My husband has some kind of shaker he uses to shake it around our home and it last about a month. I give it a 10.

I have used Niban bait to control silverfish in my basement, and it is the only thing that has ever worked. The silverfish have almost totally disappeared, along with spiders and centipedes. It is easy to use, and effective.

By William in Sussex County, NJ on 12/17/2015

I recently had an infestation of camel crickets in the crawl space under my house. I sprinkled the contents of a 1 lb. container of Niban fine granular bait around the perimeter of the crawl space and amazingly they were all gone within a few days. It has been over a month and I still do not see any. Niban is a great product.

Sprinkled around the oustside perimeter of the house and place some on a paper plate where i had seen them in the basement its been about three weeks and so far have not seen anymore. Easy to place with no mess just had to cut a slightly bigger hole in the cap for it to come out with any consistency. Would definitely recommend.

QIs Niban Fine Granular Bait safe for dogs?

A

Niban Fine Granular Bait is considered a pet safe product, as long as you follow the product label. This product should be applied only in cracks and crevices and in inaccessible areas where kids or pets cannot access it (ie; behind appliances, in wall voids, etc.). You of course would not want to keep the bottle of Niban open where a pet could consume a large quantity. Keep in mind that these products are only strong enough to kill small insects when applied properly and it is only recommended to use this product in small quantities. It does not take much to do the job.

QIs there a product that will last longer than Niban Fine Granular Bait in the attic?
The attic is difficult to access and spread Niban Fine Granular Bait. Does it only last 2 months?

A

Depending on what you are baiting for, you would be hard pressed to find a product with a longer lasting residual than Niban Fine Granular Bait - 1 lb

QI have 4 cats and 1 dog. My Mother is on oxygen 24/7, will the Niban granules injure them in anyway?
My Mother is on oxygen 24/7, I have 4 cats, and 1 dog. Will it harm my pets if they ingest the granules? Also, will the granules kill the female & the egg sack she is carrying? I have an infestation of German Cockroaches, severe, and have Orkin coming out to put the gel out, but, they seem to keep coming out. I have been cleaning a lot of "stuff" out of my house that would give them a place to hide a breed. Also, are the granules good for killing fire ants? I have them in my front yard and nothing seems to work on them, except gasoline, which I refuse to use. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you in advance.

AThe Niban Granules are very safe and should cause no issues with your pets, as long as you apply them correctly.  The niban granules are no stronger than anything Orkin has placed out in your home.  Of course you would not want to leave the Niban Granules out in the open where your pets could get into the container.  You should apply the Niban Granules underneath and behind appliances, in wall voids, and other places that your pets cannot gain access to.  It will not kill the egg sack, only the roaches that eat the granules.  Niban is not labeled for fire ants.  For fire ants we would recommend our most popular product which is Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait.

QWill Niban harm small geckos?
We live in Hawaii, and we have a lot of geckos in and outside of our home. I want to kill the roaches that the geckos don't get, however, I don't want to harm them in anyway. We also have wild chickens and roosters. Will Niban take care of the palmettos?

AGeckos are not attracted to the Niban granules and they are highly unlikely to dead insects that have succumbed to the bait. Niban granules should have no effect on geckos, chickens or roosters. American cockroaches, sometimes called palmetto bugs are listed on the Niban granule product label and the Niban granules seem to do a great job eliminating them.

QNiban Fine Granular Bait - 1 lb. Dog safe when looking to exterminate outside ant colonies
I have a number of large ant colonies/nest in my lawn and considering NiBan to exterminate. This will be very accessible to my 2 dogs when they're in the yard. Is NiBan safe for this sort of application? Thanks.

QCan Niban be put in trays in attic and when would they need to be replaced?
Large attic with silverfish problem in some areas. Grandchildren occasionally like to go get things from the attic so I want to use removable trays instead of spreading around. How long will it last?

ANiban can be put in removable bait trays such as a bait plate station in the attic area. You should plan on replacing the bait every couple of months to ensure it is still fresh.

QWhat is the difference between Niban Granular Bait and Niban FG?

AThe 'FG' in Niban FG stands for 'fine granular.'  This means that the granules in the Niban FG will be finer (smailler) than those in the Niban Granular Bait.  The finer granules make it easier to apply Niban FG in small cracks and crevices.
