Best results are obtained when Opti Amine 2,4-D is applied to young succulent weeds that are actively growing. Application rates lower than recommended will be satisfactory on susceptible annual weeds. For perennial weeds and conditions such as the very dry areas of the western states, where control is difficult, the higher recommended rates should be used.
When Opti Amine 2,4-D is used for weed control in crops, the growth stage of the crop must be considered.
Some plants and weeds, especially woody varieties, are difficult to control and may require repeat applications. Application rates should be 1 to 5 gallons of total spray by air or 5 to 25 gallons by ground equipment unless otherwise directed. In either case, use the same amount of 2,4-D recommended per acre. For crop uses, do not mix with oil, surfactants, or other adjuvants unless specifically recommended on label. To do so may reduce herbicide’s selectivity and could result in crop damage.

I've been fighting lake weed and millfoil for over 20 years. Back "in the day" I used a pelletized 2-4-D that worked well although a bit pricy. Several years ago those pellets apparently changed. I spent $300 (elsewhere) and it looked like I had fertilized my unwanted vegetation. I tried the Opti Amine and it works. I recently bought my second bottle so that I have enough, and have it here for when I need it again. I had to make 2 applications and it does take 6-8 weeks for full effect. This is the most cost effective product I've found (that actually works).

QHow long do I need to wait to graze my horses? Also how many acres will a 2.5 gallon jug treat?
A Wait 7 days before allowing animals to graze. Depending on the weeds you are treating for, you would be able to treat 5 to 10 acres with one 2.5 gallon jug of the Opti Amine 2,4-D Herbicide.

QHow much 24D to add to a 12 Gallon tow behind sprayer.
AThe Opti Amine Herbicide has a wide usage label and the amount of product you will use is going to vary depend on what weed you are trying to control and what area you are treating in and around. Also, keep in mind that with herbicides the amount of water that is used is not what is important. You just need to make sure you get the correct amount of 2,4-D over the correct amount of area, the water just acts as the carrier not the diluter. So if you have an acre to cover with a broadcast spray, you could mix however much the label states for an acre in 15 gallons, or 100 gallons and both are correct as long as you are getting the amount of actual product per acre correct. Please review the Opti Amine Product Label to see what usage rate is correct for where you are treating, and note that if you are using it in edible vegetation areas, there are harvest restrictions.
