How does Optigard Flex work?
Thiamethoxam, the active ingredient, is a non repellent insecticide. Non-repellent means that target insects don't sense that the product is there and will crawl right through it, picking it up on their bodies. Optigard FLEX is especially effective on social insects like ants. Because of the delayed reaction of Thiamethoxam these insects will be able to return to their nesting site and transfer the insecticide to other members of their colony through normal social interactions, eventually eliminating the entire colony.

QYour Q&A for Termidor says it only lasts 6 weeks on wood - How long does Optigard Flex last?
AWhen using Termidor to treat for termites it is meant to go in the ground. It is not a wood treatment product. Optigard Flex is an insecticide meant for indoor and outdoor perimeter treatments. It is also not a wood treatment product. You would not want to use Optigard Flex for termite or beetle control in wood. You would want to use a wood treatment product like Bora-Care which stays in the wood forever and is meant to be applied on only wood. It depends on what you are trying to control as to what product would be best for your needs.

QIs Optigard Flex Liquid effective against argentinian ants?
AOptigard Flex Liquid is a fairly new product and we have not had any feedback on it specific to Argentinian Ants. Optigard Flex is labeled for ants and it is non-repellent and has a transfer effect, which makes it a top choice for social insects such as ants.

QWhy isn't Optigard Flex labeled for pharoah or carpenter ants?
If it works well for other ants why not them?
ASome ants act differently than other ant species which could limit the way the product would spread through the colony. Manufacturers will only include an insect on their product label if it meets certain criteria and for some reason they felt the product was not effective enough on Pharoah and carpenter ants. If you need more specific information as to why they were not included you can contact Syngenta, the manufacturer, directly by calling 866-796-4368.

QWill Optigard Flex Liquid work to keep Palmetto Bugs from entering my home?
We have tried several products (including professional) to keep these large roaches from entering our rural Florida home. We need an effective perimeter treatment because we have pet birds (small parrots) and don't want to use insecticides around them.
AOptigard Flex Liquid will definitely help reduce the palmetto bugs on your property. You should note that because palmetto bugs can fly that there is a chance that they could fly into your home without ever having touched a treated area. You can also help reduce the amount of palmetto bugs on your property by removing yard debris and turning mulched areas frequently to reduce the amount of moisture up close to your home. Please take a moment to read our article Integrated Pest Management to learn more about how to make your property less favorable to these pests.
