Product Overview

Orthene 97 Spray Insecticide is used for insect pests on trees, ornamentals and turf. Its powerful active ingredient, Acephate, works in two ways. First, Orthene 97 Spray kills insects on contact, then it penetrates plant tissue for local systemic control. No worries about rain or irrigation because plants will absorb this product within 24 hours. This product is safe to be applied without a mask due to low vapor pressure, low oral and dermal toxicity, and volatility. Orthene 97 Spray is for non crop area ant control, sod farms, outdoor and perimeter spray, trees and shrubs, greenhouse and outdoor floral crops, ground covers, and golf courses.

    Good general purpose insecticide

    By Anonymous on 06/03/2013

    Verified Purchase

I have used this insecticide for many years. It is easy to mix. I recently learned that it can travel through both the phylum and xylum (sp) plant tissues. That means that it can go both up and down in a plant, giving much better protection against insects. It has an EPA code word of CAUTION, so it isn't as toxic as many other insecticides.

    Orthene 97

    By Anonymous on 06/17/2013

Orthene 97 is a good chemical control for thrips on roses. I've been using an organic pest control spray but still having problems with thrips. (Thrips are tiny and love to attack the buds and blossoms on roses.) I've used Orthene before and found it effective. Works very well.

We used it to spray to kill bag worms in our evergreen trees and it did the job and we only had to spray once to do the job.

Q
Can Orthene be used as a deterrent for crayfish?

I havery a back yard that is close to a creek. I think the crawfish/crayfish got into my yard from there. Now they have jacked up my yard and about 40 holes and mounds and some areas I sink down. Can I use this as a deterrent.? How do I apply to my yard. Nothing edible is in the yard.

A

Orthene 97 Spray Insecticide is not a deterrent and would not be recommended for this use or in the yard as it is not labeled for this.  There is no product that is labeled for crayfish. If you see crayfish, the water table is very high and the usage of ANY insecticide can lead to poisoning the local water supply. The Tomahawk Model 405 is a double door crayfish trap that could be used.

Q
Can Orthene 97 be washed out of soil in a pot or ground?

My neighbor sprayed my soil by my vegetable pots with Orthene while I was out of town. Now I am worried about eating my vegetables.

A

We would not recommend consuming any edible plants that have been sprayed with Orthene 97 Spray Insecticide, except for those listed on the product label and at the indicated Pre-Harvest Interval. You may use a product such as D-Tox Flowable Charcoal to absorb some of the pesticide in other areas where it may have been applied.
