Overwintering Kit for Stink Bugs, Lady Bugs, Boxelder Bugs

The Overwintering Stink Bug Kit contains a combination of professional stink bug control products to protect your home from a variety of insects including stink bugs (including the brown marmorated stink bug), kudzu bugs, lady bugs (asian beetles), box elder bugs, pill bugs and more. The Overwintering Kit includes two insecticides and a dust applicator to keep stink bugs and other overwintering pests at bay. Temprid SC is a unique insecticide concentrate with two active ingredients for quick initial kill and long-term residual effects. CimeXa Insecticide Dust contains amorphous silica gel, which acts as a desiccant when insects crawl across it. Dust is extremely stable, but it is only for use in voids and areas where it will not be easily disturbed or picked up by people or pets. This kit includes 4 x 8mL single pack doses of Temprid SC Insecticide, 1 x 4 oz. bottle of Cimexa Dust, and a hand duster for easy application.

Be sure to add on a can of PestXpert foaming insect killer spray for more power and protection against overwintering pests. The PestXpert foam will provide a protective barrier deep inside cracks and crevices.

For the best Stink Bug Treatment, perform a thorough Inspection prior to treatment, and practice good sanitation and exclusion to prevent these pests from entering the home. Treatments should begin in August before temperatures begin to drop and continue through November or until the first frost.

A one gallon hand pump sprayer (sold separately) is required to apply the Temprid SC in this kit. We recommend a hand pump sprayer like the Chapin one gallon sprayer, or the Chapin Premier one gallon sprayer.

This kit cannot be sold to NY residents. For control of Overwintering pests in NY please consider the New York Stink Bug Control Kit.

The Stink Bug Control Kit contains the insecticides needed to help keep stink bugs and similar overwintering pests out in the Fall. It is important to perform a thorough inspection of the structures you want to protect so that you can identify and correct any areas where stink bugs are able to harbor and possibly enter the structure. These preventative measures will greatly increase your chances of a successful Stink Bug Treatment.

How to Apply the Stink Bug Kit

Stink Bug Treatment should begin before temperatures drop and pests start searching for places to harbor for the winter. Relying on treatments in the Spring, when pests are moving back outdoors, will provide limited results. Your first treatment should be in August, before the weather begins to cool, and continue through November or until the first frost of the Fall. The best treatment for overwintering pests is preventative treatment.

STEP 1 - SPRAY - Temprid SC

Temprid SC is a liquid concentrate that must be diluted with water and applied with a hand pump sprayer. Temprid SC has two active ingredients that provide both quick knockdown and residual control to help prevent stink bugs and similar pests from entering the structure.

*Always wear gloves such as Nitrile Chemical Resistant gloves when handling and mixing pesticides.

*To mix the Temprid SC, fill sprayer tank 1/3 - 1/2 with clean, temperate water. Shake Temprid SC before opening, then add desired amount of Temprid SC Insecticide Concentrate to sprayer tank. Shake or agitate mixture before adding remainder of water, then agitate again before spraying.

*For initial treatment, use 2 x 8mL packets per gallon of water.

*For follow up treatments, use 1 x 8mL packet per gallon of water.

*Temprid SC should be sprayed around the outside of the home to create a protective barrier to keep bugs from getting inside. Spray about 3 ft. up the side of the house, and about 3-5 ft. out from the structure from the base of the foundation (spraying directly on the ground) -- this will give you a powerful continuous barrier against pests.

*Spray around window frames, door frames, any cracks and crevices around foundation or where caulking around windows and doors has opened up, around vents leading inside, and around lights (these bugs are attracted to the light from windows, doors, etc.).

*Concentrate spot treatments on the sides of the home that receive afternoon and/or full sunlight.

*Spot treat indoors along window frames, door frames, garage doors, attic vents, and where utilities enter.

*Keep pets and children out of the treatment area while spraying and until the application has dried, usually about an hour.

*Try to use up all the spray mixture in one application. If spray solution is stored overnight, re-agitate the tank before spraying.

*Do not apply Temprid SC to edible plants such as vegetable gardens or fruit trees.

*Repeat treatment every 30 days through the Fall or until the first frost.

STEP 2 - DUST - CimeXa Insecticide Dust and Bellow Hand Duster

For the best control of stink bugs and similar pests, apply CimeXa Dust both indoors and in cracks and crevices outdoors. CimeXa Dust is all natural and contains no active ingredients that degrade in sunlight or over time. Using the included bellow hand duster ensures accurate applications into areas where dust will not be easily moved or washed away by rainfall.

*After your insecticide spray has dried, you can apply the insecticide dust.

*Using insecticide dust can be very messy, so be sure to wear gloves and consider having a moist paper towel handy to clean up excess dust indoors.

*To fill the Bellow Hand Duster, remove the black rubber stopper on top of the duster. Gently unscrew the white top of the CimeXa dust, then slowly tap the dust into the duster. Fill the duster up to halfway (or less), so there is plenty of room for the dust to move inside the duster.

*You may want to add a few small objects such as coins, pebbles, or marbles to prevent clumping inside the duster.

*Replace the black stopper so that it fits snugly into the opening. Remove the black rubber cap from the end of the extension wand. To apply dust, hold the duster upside down, so that the extension wand is on top, then gently squeeze the bellows between the thumb and fingers.

*Apply insecticide dust to cracks and crevices such as:

  • around window and door frames
  • around areas where cables, pipes and wires enter the structure
  • around eaves and soffits
  • any crack, crevice or gap where pests can enter

*Dust can also be used indoors in cracks and crevices where the dust will not easily be removed or disturbed, such as behind outlet covers, under baseboards, around pipe collars, and under and behind cabinets.

*Re-apply insecticide dust every 6 months.

*See our Video for more tips on dusting.

5 of 5 stars  Great Kit and it Works!
By Barb in Wallingford, P on 09/10/2012

I used this kit, and while the first winter I didn't spray completely and had a few stink and lady bugs creep in, the second winter I was more thorough and it worked like a dream. While my neighbors were complaining, I was bug free. Thank you!

I bought the kit 2 years ago, and after spraying my home in early September have had almost no problems with stink bugs. I live in a townhouse, and my neighbors continued to have problems - so I didn't just get a lucky streak!

4 of 5 stars  Boxelder bugs DEAD
By Bp in Utah on 10/30/2014

The duster seemed to be higher quality than i was expecting, but being inexperienced with it, i really didn't know how to judge how much product i was applying to an area. The concentrate for the sprayer was easy to mix and apply. The hardest part was understanding the exact dilution recommended. While there were instructions, I didn't find them quite specific enough. As though it was written for professionals who do this all the time. Not someone who busts out the garden sprayer once a year. Nevertheless, I used a 1 packet/gal dilution and it did infact kill the box elder bugs in the infested areas. Really, this product works great. It would be 5 star if perhaps the instructions were a little more newbie friendly.

By Geraldine in Nashville, TN on 03/07/2016

Applied both agents as directed. Unfortunately, minimal effect -- just a few days without Asian Lady Beetles and Stinkbugs. Clearly, need to find the source of entry and stop it, since treating outside and inside not helpful.

QConcerned about the safety of Demon WP and Eco PCO-D-X. Safe for baby?

AOverwintering Kit for Stink Bugs, Lady Bugs, Boxelder Bugs are safe to use on/in a home with children as long as you follow the product labels. All children and pets should be out of the area while the products are being applied and they can safely return as soon as the Demon WP is dry.

QThis is a fall treatment, but we all of a sudden are inundated by boxelder bugs would this product work now??

AThe products in the Overwintering Kit will kill insects year round. We do recommend you apply them in early fall to prevent the insects from moving in. Once the insects are in they are a bit harder to control because they harbor in inaccessible areas. You can apply the dust to the interior cracks and crevices and the Demon to the window and door frames and baseboards to help control these pests now. Using a vacuum with a hose attachment is also a quick way to get rid of these pests.

QI am invaded by stink bugs, what should I use?
I live in the middle of the state of North Carolina.

There are many products on the market that have a long lasting residual. Unfortunately, all of them will only have very limited results. Stink bugs move into structures to overwinter. They usually squeeze into wall voids, false ceilings, attics and other areas that are inaccessible to people and insecticides. As the heat kicks on in the house, the stink bugs warm up and start becoming active and emerge from hiding, driving residents nuts. Because most folks usually have no idea where the bugs are harboring you can only treat around baseboards, door frames and window frames and hope the insects will emerge where you have sprayed. After they contact the treated areas, it can take several hours for them to die. It is still worth spraying now to get rid of some of the bugs, but you will keep seeing them until spring when they will emerge en masse and leave the building. They do not eat, mate or lay eggs while indoors so need to worry about any damage or future baby stink bugs. This year you can be proactive by stopping these pests before they move in for the winter.

Our most popular product for stink bugs by far is Demon WP, which is also contained in our stink bug kit.  The stink bug kit or Demon WP would be for keeping stink bugs out of your home.

QWhat is the best indoor pest control and fast kill of Stink Bugs/Shield Bugs?

AWe recommend treating with our Overwintering Kit for the treatment of stinkbugs and shield bugs. It is important to make a monthly application on the exterior of the structure especially during the months of August-November yearly for the best control. The products can also be applied to indoor cracks and crevices once every three months. If the stinkbugs have already foraged inside, vacuum those that are present.

The CimeXa Dust is applied with the Bellow Hand Duster to all of the voids. QWhat can I use to treat flies and lady bugs near a wall of windows in my house?
I have flies and lady bugs inside the house that come from a wall of windows. Flies are lazy most die. On their backs.the windows are surrounded by stained pine boards and the house is clean. They get vacuumed up daily. About 12 per day. All winter long and Thur out the year. Use suspend sc inside and Telstar p outside.

A

You probably are dealing with cluster flies in addition to the lady bugs or Asian beetles, which are both overwintering pests that move indoors as temperatures cool, and then often come inside inadvertently as temperatures warm again. The Overwintering Kit has two great products to treat for these pests, although Suspend SC and Talstar P that you are already using will do a great job for an insecticide as well. Adding the CimeXa Insecticide Dust offers an additional barrier of protection, especially in tricky areas like under siding and in wall voids.†For better control, we recommend taking a good look at ways to exclude these pests from entering the structure, check sealing around windows, doors, and where utilities enter the home. You should focus your treatments on sides of the house where you get the most afternoon and evening sunlight, as this is where these pests tend to gather most. Many customer also get great additional control using Insect Fly Light Traps inside to help capture cluster flies that have made their way indoors. You will not be able to complete eradicate them at this time of year, however, be sure to treat preventatively in late Summer and through the Fall going forward to keep these pests out.

QWhat can I use to get rid of hundreds of lady bugs in my house and RV?
They show up every year in the fall and last all the way through winter.

A

We would recommend using the Overwintering Kit for Stink Bugs, Lady Bugs and Boxelder Bugs. It has everything in it that you will need to do a complete treatment.

QWhat can I use to get rid of stink bugs?
I have a high amount of stink bugs in my home. I use a professional maid service and yet I still have at least 2-3 a day. What preventive measures can I use or take?

A

We sell an excellent Overwintering Kit for Stink Bugs, Lady Bugs, etc. that contains a liquid concentrate, insecticide dust, and hand duster to be used primarily in the late Summer and Fall to keep overwintering pests like Stink Bugs out. You can still use these items inside for crack and crevice and spot treatment as well, just keep in mind that you will likely still see some bugs in the Spring as temperatures warm again. Bugs you find inside may be placed in soapy water, removed and placed outside, or flushed down the toilet. You should avoid crushing them inside as they will likely†leave a stain on the wall or floor and a foul smell! Please see our Stink Bug Treatment Guide for more information.

QHow do you treat for Asian beetles/ ladybugs?

A

Our Overwintering Kit †would be great for treating for Asian Beetles/Lady Bugs.†The key is to treat early enough (early fall) and to apply the product in the right places. Asian beetles enter the structure through cracks and crevices, especially around windows and doors. Be sure to treat these areas thoroughly once a month through November.†

QIs Overwintering Kit for Stink Bugs, Lady Bugs, Boxelder Bugs safe to use on trees, specifically Chinese elm?
When spraying trees are bug eggs on/in the bark of the tree or on the leaves? What is the best month to kill boxelder adults and eggs? We have B.E. bugs in and outside.

AThe Temprid SC that is included in the Overwintering Kit for Stink Bugs, Lady Bugs, Boxelder Bugs is perfect for spraying tree trunks and foliage, bushes, shrubs, and ornamentals to kill and control Boxelder Bugs. It will not harm trees or your Chinese Elm. Beginning a treatment regiment in early spring and continuing treatments through late fall will ensure a significant decrease in the Boxelder Bug population. You can read about the identification and biology of Boxelder Bugs by clicking here.

QIs the overwintering kit for stink bugs the same as the stink bug control kit?

AYes, the Overwintering Kit and the Stink Bug Kit do contain the products. They will produce the same results. The Overwintering Kit works for pests that attempt to get into your home during the winter time, such as stink bugs, lady bugs, and boxelder bugs. QHow can I eliminate box elder bugs for good?
There not bad now but in fall they get real bad.

AThe products in the Overwintering Kit will kill insects year round. We do recommend you apply them in early fall each year to prevent the insects from moving in.

QWill it help with a house already infested?
I get rid of 10-20 stinkbugs when I get home from work everyday. Will this product help if I already have them in my house?

AOnce they are in your home there really isn't much you can do other than vacuum and sweep them up. The ones you are currently seeing are ones that harbored in your home in the fall and are now emerging trying to leave your home as the weather warms up. To prevent this next year you could use this kit to start treating in August, and treat your home once every 30 days through at least November. The products in this kill will help some in killing any that emerge onto a surface you sprayed or dusted, but it will not keep them from coming out or get to all the ones still hidden.
