Works but very overpriced considering the cheap quality

    By Knt on 08/31/2010

This device is basically a small heater and a wire shelf inside a duffle bag; plug it in, it heats up. There's a timer and indoor/outdoor thermometer included in the box, but they're not automated or connected to the packtite; it's up to you to visually check the time and temperature from time to time. There's only one shelf inside the device, so it's not very useful if you're putting in a lot of personal items. The temp got up to 125 in about 40minutes, then up to 143. I'm going to buy a wire shelf to place on top of the single shelf, so that I can at least put stuff on two levels. This feels like a successful high school science project; it does the job but not much else. Definitely NOT worth $288, but unfortunately there's no other device like it out there.

PackTite Portable Bed Bug Heat Treatment Device

    By Pamela on 09/21/2010

It worked well except for one thing: The thermometer went on the fritz, and eventually stopped working entirely, somewhere around 110 degrees. It wasn't the batteries (we tried 2 brand new sets). Possibly it was from the heat of sitting on the PackTite, but there is nowhere else to put it. It needs a better thermometer; for the cost; there ought to be one.

Bug Cooker. Not Effective if Suitcase Full.

    By Steve on 02/03/2011

This device works well as long as the suitcase is not full of clothes. It is best to remove clothes, put them in a plastic bag and immediately wash in hot water. The suitcase and non-washables can be easily heated without the clothes inside. The temperature in the center of the bag needs to be above 120 degrees for 1 hr to kill the bedbugs. With a stuffed suitcase, I was only able to get the temp up to 113. Lightly filled suitcase got up to between 123 and 135 degrees. Helps to cover the PackTite with a towel to keep the heat from escaping.

Great product but could use tweaking

    By Carrie on 03/16/2011

Much less damaging to clothes than using the dryer but I'd like to see a more efficient model for commercial use - this can take several hours, and the device heats up the surrounding area. Fine for occasional use but I run a consignment shop and want to heat treat all textiles. Also, heat is rather unevenly distributed; I plan on buying another temperature gauge to get a more accurate reading of what's going on in there.

    Peace of mind

    By Steve on 01/26/2011

The device works well most of the time. If the suitcase is full of clothes then it may not get all the way up to the necessary 120 degrees. It worked great for partially filled suitcases. Quality was fine. It would be nice if they could get the price down a bit.
