    Doveweed

    By Travis on 07/29/2020

Got overrun by doveweed last year, but Magnum took care of about 90% this year with Celsius taking care of what did pop up. Can't wait to see how well it works in year 2.

    Spend More, Get Less

    By John on 04/28/2020

Put this product down following instructions exactly. 2 weeks later, my first nutsedge is popping up. Save your money and buy Sedgehammer Plus as a post emergent.

Q
What is the mix rate for hand spraying Pennant Magnum?

How much of this should be mixed in per 2 gallons of water when using a handheld sprayer? I need to treat about 5000 square feet of turfgrass. I read the product label, and didn't see this info.

A

The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Pennant Magnum is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You will need to use 11 ml -28 ml per 1,000 sq ft . To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix 11 ml - 28 ml of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated. You will need to make sure treated areas are irrigated with at least 1/2 inch of water (either by rainfall or by sprinkler) following the application.

Q
Shelf life of Pennant Magnum?

What is the shelf life of Pennant Magnum once it is opened? A gallon of this would be a ten year supply for me.

A
Pennant Magnum, like most of our other concentrates, should last for years and years on the shelf.  Most manufacturers give a shelf life of at least 5 years, but products can last longer if you keep the lid on, keep the product out of direct sunlight, and shake up the container every few months to prevent the active ingredient from settling to the bottom and getting clumpy and dried out.

Q
Is a surfactant required when applying the Pennant Magnum?
A

Pennant Magnum is a pre-emergent herbicide, therefore - and per the label - a surfactant is not required when applying it.

Q
Late spring application on nutsedge?

Its the last week of May, and I have yellow nutsedge starting to appear. Is it too late (or a waste of money) to apply a preemergent? Or could I apply this in the first or second week of June, and use Halosulfuron on the plants that are already showing?

A
For most of the country it is too late to apply a pre-emergent.  Pre-emergents prevent weeds from germinating and growing and so if you already see weeds in your yard then it is definitely too late.  Most of the weeds should have germinated by now.  However, we are not sure where you live and we are not familiar with every part of the country.  We recommend that you call your local cooperative extension office, and they should be able to tell you the exact times of year to apply the pre-emergent in the late fall and early spring so you can treat at the proper times in the future.  As far as existing nutsedge, our most popular selling product with Halosulfuron is our Sedgehammer product.
