How Phantom Aerosol Works
Phantom Aerosol is a ready-to-use residual insecticide with the active ingredient Chlorfenapyr. Chlorfenapyr belongs to a relatively new class of insecticides called pyrroles which are produced from microbes. Pyrroles do not metabolize into active insecticides until after they enter the host target pest. Chlorfenapyr disrupts the production of ATP in the part of the cell that turns food into energy, causing cellular death and ultimate mortality. Because this process is slower than other modes of action, Phantom can have a transfer effect similar to that of baits on social insects like ants, cockroaches, and termites. Once applied, Phantom Aerosol has a residual of at least 30 days.
Phantom Aerosol Target Pests
Ants, cockroaches, beetles, bed bugs, spiders, wasps
PESTS CONTROLLED WITH PHANTOM AEROSOL: Ants (Acrobat, Argentine, Odorous House, Pavement, Pharaoh, Pyramid); Beetles (Asian Lady, Confused Flour, Darkling Larva (Yellow mealworm), Saw-toothed Grain); Bark Scorpions; Bed Bugs, Boxelder Bugs, Centipedes; Cockroaches (American, Asian, Brown-Banded, German, Oriental, Smokey Brown); Earwigs; House Crickets; House Flies; Paper Wasps; Pillbugs; Spiders (Black Widow, Cellar); Silverfish; Stored Product Pests; Termites
Target Uses of Phantom Aerosol
Phantom Aerosol has the same power and effectiveness as Phantom Insecticide Concentrate in a convenient ready-to-use can. Phantom has a long residual and can be used in many places. Because of its transfer effect, Phantom is excellent for ants, cockroaches, and other social insects. It can also be used in conjunction with baiting. Phantom Aerosol is excellent for use in smaller areas such as apartments where residual insecticides may be desired, but the large quantities that concentrates yield are not needed. Because of its unique active ingredient, Phantom is effective on pyrethroid-resistant strains of bed bugs and cockroaches.
Phantom Aerosol is not a knockdown agent and should not be used for knockdown treatment of stinging insects.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Chlorfenapyr 0.5%

Pros Use It
By Shirley in Hoboken, NJ on 10/15/2010
We had confirmed bed bugs at work and I think I brought them home. I asked what the exterminators had used and they said Suspend and Mother Earth. I then called a local exterminator and they quoted me $800 to spray Phantom and dust with DE. I can't afford a pro so I purchased Phantom, Suspend and Mother Earth, put on a mask and went to battle myself. It's been only 3 weeks but I think I won. I slashed the bottom of my new expensive sofa to really get into the grooves and sprayed everywhere. I also encased my mattress and box spring. It's reassuring that if the bugs come back I can retreat immediately and not have to spend $800 each time.

Works Great, but Be Careful!
By Chris in Falls Church, VA on 08/10/2010
This product has a ruthless odor, stronger than most aerosols such as CB-80 or P.I. and if used indoors can smell bad and choke everyone out of the room. Be sure to use your PPE and/or open windows while using it. Also, be sure not to spray it in your eyes...I accidentally sprayed it right into my eye and it burned and had a cold, tingling feeling for hours.

Same Stuff the Pros Use
By Brad in Rex, GA on 10/02/2010
I had my upstairs treated for BedBugs last month by a professional pest control company. I checked my receipt and searched the chemicals they used. That is when I found DoMyOwnPestControl.com. On my receipt from the Pest Control Company it lists Phantom Aerosol Spray was used along with other chemicals. So I bought a can and also the BedBug Kit#2 which also contains products the pros use. I also bought mattress and box spring encasements. They are priceless, since I can sleep knowing that those evil bugs are no longer camping out waiting to suck my blood. DoMyOwnPestControl.com was easy to order from and my order was received in three days. I am very pleased with how they do business. I would recommend DoMyOwnPestControl.com to anyone suffering from BedBug infestation.

Kiss your indoor ant problems goodbye
By Philip in Atlanta, GA on 06/05/2009
For weeks I've been dealing with annoying little black ants (argentine or sugar ants I think) coming in and around the back door of my house and eating all of the Cheerios our little baby keeps dropping on the kitchen floor. We tried everything to stop the ants, but whatever we used or sprayed on them would just keep them away for a day or so, and then they would just pop out of the wall somewhere else. Then I tried this Phantom spray. Wow, does this stuff work! I sprayed just a line of Phantom along the bottom of the back door and where the ants were coming in, and within minutes there were dead ants everywhere I sprayed. Not only that, but the ants never came back. I highly recommend!

Oh my gosh

I can't believe they now have an aerosol spray for Phantom. This is basically an indoor version of Termidor, which is the best stuff for ants. I used to work for a pest control company and ants were the most difficult thing to kill because most people would use something from Walmart, which ants can detect and they would find new places to go. However, Phantom they can't detect, and it kills them slowly, but completely. The way that it works is that it gets on the ants' bodies and when they rub up against each other the insecticide then rubs off on those ants. It will take about 5 days to see them completely gone, but this stuff can't be beat for totally removing your complete ant problem. I am just shocked that it is now in a spray as we had to mix it from a huge bottle.

This spray is wonderful and finally terminated my bedbug problem. I started treatment with Bedlam and Bedlam plus to kill the eggs in my bed frame every 10 days. But for the final treatment, I used a steamer to steam my bedframe and after allowing it to dry, I finished with this. Day one I had one bite, day 3 one bite, after wards for the next two weeks to now, no bites. This stuff is a miracle! It's not easy getting rid of those things, but if you put your back into it and combine the treatments (Fenvastar for carpet, DE for dusting crevices and perimeter and steam and spray for the infested areas), it will knock them out! Thanks for carrying this!

Bought two cans to fight bed bugs and roaches. My roommate brought a mattress infested with bed bugs into our new house, and we sprayed his room and all the furniture and many parts of the house with a different bug spray. This was 3 months ago. I have never had a problem with bed bugs until about 4 weeks ago. I got four bites on my stomach and back. I immediately researched what spray would be the best and decided to get Phantom. I sprayed my mattress all over (against the directions, but it doesn't stain so I figured whatever) and along the seams, and sprayed the same way on the box spring, and all over my room along the perimeter and all over the door seams. Been almost two weeks, no bed bug bites!!!! Only used a 1/4 of one can, so i'm prepared just in case, though I doubt they will be back. I also sprayed down stairs in the kitchen and the little roaches we had been seeing stopped appearing. PHANTOM IS HIGH QUALITY PEST CONTROL, IT KILLS ALL THE BUGS YOU DON"T WANT IN YOUR HOUSE AND IS HIGHLY EFFECTIVE AGAINST BED BUGS!!!!!

The pros try to keep it a secret
By D in Portland, Maine on 12/10/2012
I had bed bug problems and a pro came in, He spayed using Phantom and I nasked what he was using after reading "Phantom" on nthe can..He said was it was but said it was over $80 a can and you have to have a license..(which was a way to protect his job security). Then I tracked it down online and bought a can, After I told friends about this wonder spray i started gettingt requests for me to order more so others had a can on hand (just in case)..It's been over a year since I've had any problems. Every 6 months I spray very little around my bed for peice of mind because I had struck by PTSD from my orignal attack by these pests. This product REALLY WORKS ! Get a worryless sleep with the use of Pantom. But follow the directions on the can ! It's not available in NY or CA , I feel sorry for them.

I have no proof that this product works, other than that since I started using it I have not had a bed bug problem (I had one previously, but it had cleared up before I started using Phantom). It has almost no odor and it has a very strong spray mechanism so you can spray it into tiny crevices very easily. I like it because it is supposed to have a "residual" effect and continue to kill bugs who crawl over it for several weeks after spraying. So I spray it all around the molding on my bedroom floor, which makes me feel safer.

Lived here 19 yrs, never had a roach. Four months ago, got a few showing up in kitchen. Tried self treating from Home Depot, still would see 3 to 5 every time I went in kitchen after dark. I hired Terminex. The guy was slack, barely treated anywhere. No reduction in bugs at ALL, even after a week. I complained, got refund (with much grief!). After THREE weeks, increase in bugs. I found a site that suggested 2 main products. Site was more expensive than here though, so I ordered. My order came FAST. The products worked immediately. Day 1.. only a couple each time. By day 5, none. I saw 3 total roaches the 2nd week and not one the last 5 days. And I still only treated the kitchen, still have to treat under the house! Amazing products, Maxforce FC Magnum and Phantom Aerosol Spray!

I just purchased this product and I still see a few roaches. It is definitely a crack and crevice spray, in my desperation to rid myself of these pests I sprayed on some of the baseboards and it turned that part of the walls smoky black. Would I buy this product again? Probably not, I would need to look for something that has a direct kill affect. However, I will shop your company again you have good products. I will just have to educate myself better. Thank you!

Used this along with Termidor
By Larry in Roanoke, TX on 09/07/2010
I used this product with Termidor to take care of ants in my kitchen around my sink. I sprayed Termidor around the whole outside perimeter of the house. Then I used Phantom to spray in the walls (there were gaps in the drywall by the water pipes, cleanout trap & outlets). Worked great! No ants almost overnight. Well worth the money...It just hurts to pay for spray when you are used to paying Home Depot prices. Once you realize Home Depot chemicals don't work & you are wasting all that money, it makes it easier to pay the price and know: 1) it works the first time, 2) your problem will be solved, 3) you will have leftovers to use if you have a different problem later

Phantom Aerosol Spray
By Jeffrey in Germantown, MD on 04/18/2010
I HAD a serious problem with Carpenter Ants nesting between beams and had called an exterminator to handle it. He sprayed the area with a pesticide but within 3 months they were back. I ordered a can of Phantom Spray and 9 months ago sprayed the area. I have not seen them since and there are no indications of any Ant activity. GREAT STUFF!!! I would definitely recommend this product.

It works well.
By Ken in St Paul, MN on 04/08/2010
I had some kind of tiny beetles that were resistant to typical pest control products. This product was the only product that worked. It is best to use it when the interior treatment area will be vacant for an hour or more to allow it to dry due to fumes. Once it is dry it is odorless and very effective. The best deal is using a sprayer, however using the aerosol can is an easy option. I have been very satisfied with this product for over 8+ months.

QCan you spray Phantom on your bed, babys furniture? is it safe? Is this product known to cause cancer?
A man came in today and sprayed for bedbugs with phantom. He sprayed the baseboards and the permiter. my living room furniture, my babys bed, the dog bed and my mattress and boxspring? is it still safe to sleep on? and what should i do if not? Is this stuff toxic? He had my one year old, my dog and myself stay in the house while he was spraying.
AWe cannot comment on any work done by a pest control company for liability reasons. We can tell you that the areas you mentioned that were sprayed with the Phantom are listed as areas that can safely be treated on the Phantom Aerosol product label. You do need to let the treated areas dry before you use them and you do need to cover the mattress with a sheet before you use it again. Phantom is safely used in homes everyday to help eliminate bedbug infestations.
QHas there been any report of bed bugs becoming resistant to Phantom?
APhantom Aerosol Spray is currently one of the most promising products for bed bug control available right now. It has shown very good results against bed bug colonies that are resistant to other products and to date has not shown any resistance to the Phantom itself.
Qwhat is the difference between bed bug treatment kit with phantom spray and bedlam spray?
I bought the bed bug treatment with the phantom spray but I found that your q and A seems to recommend the bedlam spray. What are the factors I should pay attention to when using the phantom spray. What are the advantages of using one spray over the other.
AThere are many factors that we considering when answering a customer submitted question. Phantom is one of the top products on the market for bedbug infestations but for some customers it is too costly. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide which means that bedbugs would not be able to detect that it is there and they will readily walk through treated areas. In the Q&A that you are referencing the other customer could have been using other synthetic pyrethroids in the same are which would have interfered with the non-repellent qualities of Phantom or there could have been a budget concern. Also the customer who submitted the Q&A you are referring to may have lived in a state where Phantom is restricted.
QCan I use Phantom Insecticide Spray in combination with Diatomaceous Earth?
I want to get the Phantom for the bedbug problem in my apartment. It is recommended that we use the Phantom only in cracks and crevices. Can I use it in combination with MotherEarth Dust? I like the Phantom spray for cracks and crevices and DE for the carpets.
AYou can use Phantom Aerosol spray in the same area as other products like MotherEarth D. Phantom Aerosol Spray is ideal for cracks and crevices and has been proven to be very effective against bed bugs.
QCan I spray Phantom and then later on spray Bedlam over the same area?
Can I spray Onslaught and Phantom over the same area at different intervals? There is a small spot area underneath my computer table where the bugs are especially active and probably live between the floor tiles. I would like to spray the Phantom for long-term control and the Onslaught or Bedlam for more immediate control.
AYou should apply one or the other, but not two in the same place. All of the products you had mentioned are very good products and it really is overkill to apply two in the same place. Bedlam and Onslaught may work a little quicker than Phantom and because of this it would not benefit you to spray Phantom over another product. The Bedlam and Onslaught will kill the bugs just the same, and adding Phantom would not make them work quicker or more effectively. All of this being said it would not hurt anything to apply Phantom over the same area, but it would not be very cost effective.

QIs Phantom Aerosol Spray harmful to pets....like cats?
APhantom Aerosol Spray should be applied when the pets are not in the area. They can re-enter once the treated surfaces are completely dry.

QDo I need to clean inside the kitchen cupboards after using Phantom?
Hello, I have used the Phantom Aerosol to spray along crevices and corners inside the kitchen cupboards. However, I am sure some stuff got sprayed around (I had no little stick attachment). I have weevils and other bugs crawling everywhere. I have got rid off all the food that was open. Now, I bought some new food. Can I put it in the cabinets the next day? Should I wipe off the shelves? Some food will sit open inside the cabinet, like a sugar bowl. Thanks!
AOnce Phantom has dried, you can put all your food back into the cabinets. It is not required that you wipe the shelves down, but it will not remove the pesticide if you do. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

QHow often do you use Phantom Aerosol when treating for bed bugs?
APhantom Aerosol can only be sprayed every 30 days for bed bugs or any other pest. If you wanted to do a follow up treatment every 7-10 days between sprays of Phantom, you could use a spray like Bedlam Insecticide in the same areas. If treating for an active infestations-no matter how small or large- for bedbugs, please review our Bed Bug Kits and our Bed Bug Guide to make sure you are using the proper methods and treating in all areas of the home where they hide, to help you get rid of the problem faster. Please let us know if you have any questions.

QIs it okay for me to use Phantom in places other than cracks and crevices?
I know it says on the label to use in voids, cracks, crevices and spot treatment, but the places the ants are coming from are beneath my baseboards. Is it okay for me to spray along the baseboards around the house, including the living room and kitchen? And when it says use in a well ventilated area, do I need windows open or can I just blast my air-conditioner and turn on the fans after application? ( By the way, I find your site extraordinarily informative, I really love it! )
AYou can spray the bottom of the baseboards with Phantom but do try to aim for the cracks at the bottom of the baseboards where the ants are emerging. Most homes are pretty well ventilated but if yours is not then you should indeed open a window for a few minutes while you are applying the product. We appreciate the compliment on our website!

QMy apartment is infested with ants and I also have a problem with a insect that looks like a flying ant. Is th
AThe flying ants are trying to fly away to make a new nest but should die off pretty quickly but they are a good indicator that there is a nest located somewhere nearby. Phantom Aerosol would be a good choice for ant control indoors. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that has a delayed reaction which allows ants time to get back to the colony and spread the product. In essence, the ants will not be able to tell that the product is in place and they will pick it up on the fine hairs all over their body and inadvertently carry it back to the colony where over a course of a few days it will knock out the entire colony. Phantom works really well because you don't have to worry about whether the ants will all take the bait, they just need to walk over the treated areas. Phantom should be applied around baseboards, door frames, window frames and places where utilities (cables, pipes and wires) enter through the wall as these are the most likely places for the ants to enter/exit.
QCan I continue to steam where I've applied Phantom to get rid of bed bugs?
AYou cannot steam where you applied Phantom because the heat will cause the residual to deteriorate. The residual from Phantom lasts approximately one month.

QI need an insecticide european hornets will take back to the nest and kill the queen
I have lots of european hornets at night at my windows. I was hoping at I could put a light out with a disk under it that the hornets would get on themselves and then take back to the nest. Is there such a thing? I tried Phantom but it seemed to kill too quickly as there were 20 dead hornets on the deck in the morning.
AThere are no products on the market for European hornets like you have described. Phantom would be a pretty good choice but if you were not satisfied with the results from that product you could try Termidor SC. Termidor has a little bit more of a delayed reaction time and it has one of the best transfer effects on the market.
08/19/2011 Joanne from Gig Harbor, Wa
QDoes Phantom contain pyrethroids/permethrin?
I have two indoor cats, one with asthma, and I know that permethrin is highly toxic to felines. I donít feel that it is safe to use even if instructions are followed. Please advise.
APhantom does not contain permethrin or any other synthetic pyrethroids. The active ingredient in Phantom is Chlorfenapyr which is from a different class of insecticides known as pyrrole. When applying Phantom (or any other insecticide) all pets should be removed from the area and they should not return until the area is completely dry and vented. Most insecticides only cause issues for felines when the animal is allowed to have contact with treated areas while they are still wet. In any case if your cat has specific issues we highly recommend that you consult with the animals veterinarian before applying any insecticides.
QCan I use Phantom inside concurrently with Termidor outside?
Is it OK to use these treatments at the same time, or should I treat with Termidor first and wait a certain amount of time before treating inside? Want to make sure I don't compromise efficacy of either product.
AYou can indeed use Phantom Aerosol indoors while at the same time using Termidor SC outdoors. Both products are non-repellent and both products have a delayed reaction kill which means they will not interfere with each other.
QWhy do the instructions with Phantom aerosol say to use it only every 28 days?
The Q and A on this site says Phantom lasts only 7-14 days as a residual, no different than anything else. So why, then, do the instructions limit the application to only once in every 4 weeks? I have seen this limitation for no other pesticide for bed bugs.
AIn the specific question that you are referencing, the person was also using Bedlam for spot treatments and it is Bedlam that should be re-applied every 7-10 days. Phantom has a residual that lasts about a month for bedbug control. The manufacturer of Phantom has spent a lot time, money and resources testing the efficacy and residual of their product for bedbugs. Their latest test results do indicate that Phantom will last about 30 days for bedbugs. We always recommend that your read and follow the product label on every product.
