Why use a mattress encasement for bed bug control?
Bed Bug Mattress Encasements are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested mattress so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Mattress encasements are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress encasement and washing it in hot water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.

We recommend spraying an infested mattress with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the mattress encasements intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the mattress will be protected from further infestation.

    It worked

    By Nila on 06/02/2010

    Verified Purchase

We had gotten a vacation home in June of 2009 and about 3 weeks later I started getting bug bites. I researched what to do and did all the suggestions on your website and no more problems. Unfortunately, I hated the new mattress. So 10 months later we took off the bed bug mattress covers (King size) to replace with new mattress (Cal King size) and a few nights later I got another bite. I think it was inside the mattress cover on the old mattress and dropped out when we took it off the old mattress and the bug took a few days to crawl back up to me. I couldn't put the mattress cover back on the new mattress because it was the wrong size. So I am back to the website to order the Cal King mattress cover and box spring covers and I will be doing an aggressive bug termination again like I did last year. I wasn't sure how well the mattress covers worked until now 10 months later. The mattress cover is comfortable to sleep on. We didn't notice it made any difference, but I put a regular mattress pad on top of it.

Q
Why is the Protect-a-bed Mattress Cover not advertised as 15" deep?

Protect-a-bed Bed Bug Mattress Cover - Cal King: Your mattress cover is advertised as 11" deep but supposedly fits up to 15" inches deep. I have a 14" deep mattress, and concerned that we may be stretching the limits of this 11" cover.

A
The manufacturer of the Protect-A-Bed Mattress Covers decided to use the measurement of the product before it is placed on the mattress.  The covers are made to stretch and should fit very snug to ensure the effectiveness of the encasement.  We have sold this cover for mattresses up to 15" for years and have never had any complaints that it ripped.  If your mattress measures 14" deep, then this is the correct cover for you.

Q
I know that AllerZip also makes this in a "deep" version for 12" to 18". Do you have that available?
A

We can special order the extra deep mattress covers in most sizes for our customers. Please call our customer service line 866-581-7378 if you would like to place the order.

Q
If my mattress measures about 11" deep, should I go with the 9" or 11" cover?
A
We would suggest to go with the larger size of the two to make sure there is not too much stretching on the encasement and to give more room for it to move and not tear as you sleep on it.
