    Q
After I mix 2 gallons of Sedgehammer, how long will it remain effective?
I have my nutsedge down to a small area with only a dozen colonies so I mix 2 gallons and fill a one quart spray bottle for convenience. How long will the remaining liquid product remain effective?
    A
Typically it is not recommended to leave any pesticide solution in a sprayer for more than two weeks at a time.  You should only mix what you plan on using.  If you want to leave the product in the sprayer for longer you should at least shake and agitate the sprayer every few days to keep the solution from separating.

    Q
When is the best time to apply Sledgehammer, before or after cutting your lawn?
    A
We recommend to apply Sedgehammer two days after mowing your lawn. This will allow the weeds to be more open to absorbing the Sedghammer. You also want to wait at least 2 days before mowing your lawn after application.

    Q
What surfactant should I use with the Sedgehammer Herbicide?
Is there a preference as to which type? I noticed there are varying types, Non-Ionic, DyneAmic. Please advise as I plan to purchase ASAP. Thanks
    A
All the surfactants on our website are non-ionic which is the type of surfactant the manufacturer of SedgeHammer herbicide recommends for use with their product in the bottle size (1.33 oz). The 13.5 gram pack of SedgeHammer already includes a built-in surfactant.

  • Asked by Todd from Collierville, Tn
    08/08/2013
    Q
I used Sedgehammer on nutgrass/nutsedge several days ago and it has yet to even begin to turn brown.
    Should I be concerned?
    A
Most of our customers begin to see results in 5 to 7 days, as long as the product was applied correctly according to the label.  The product label does state that the product often works with one application, but depending on the size and age of the nutsedge a second treatment may be required 6 to 10 weeks after the initial treatment.

    Q
Can I use SedgeHammer to kill nutsedge right before sodding with St. Augustine?
I have bare soil (with nutsedge) right now and am planning to sod in the next 7-10 days. Or do I need to place the sod and then wait 4-6 weeks and go over it with the SedgeHammer?
    A
Per the label on Sedgehammer, you are not supposed to reseed or sod within 3 to 4 weeks of using Sedgehammer.  Therefore you have only a couple of options.  One, is to treat the sedgehammer and stun it with a glyphosate (round up) type product which allows you to reseed within 7 days with no issues.  Or, you can treat with Sedgehammer and wait 3 to 4 weeks before re sodding.  If you must sod in 7 to 10 days, then you should treat the nutsedge with a glyphosate product and then you can treat with sedgehammer later if any new nutsedge makes it through the sod you are applying.

  • Asked by Jacqueline from Houston, Tx
    07/03/2014
    Q
My dogs tend to chew on anything I spray, is it still safe to use Sedgehammer in my yard after it has dried?
This is why I have such a sedge problem. I have found other organics that work on everything else, but the nut sedge is a pain!
    A
It is safe for pets to be around the area Sedgehammer has been applied, after the treated areas have completely dried.  The small amount of active ingredient that is on the grass is not enough to harm a dog.

    Q
Is SedgeHammer post emergent only? Is it effective as a pre emergent for nutsedge?
    A
Sedgehammer is a post emergent nutsedge product only.  It will not prevent nutsedge from germinating.  Unfortunately pre-emergents do not control summer weeds like nutsedge.

  • Asked by Jean
    04/28/2010
    Q
I want to eliminate nutsedge. Can SedgeHammer Herbicide be applied to a new, Empire Zoysia sodded lawn?
    A
Sedgehammer is great for the nutsedge, but it is not recommended to be used on a brand new lawn.  The real question would be how "new" is your lawn?  Sedgehammer should only be used once your "new" grass is established, usually after 2-3 months so the roots have time to really take root.  If this is the case and your lawn is established, then SedgeHammer would be great to use.  It is recommended that you use a surfactant with the SedgeHammer to help it stick to the nutsedge and be more effective.  We recommend Dynamic to use with the Sedgehammer.

    Q
I have a small area to spray can I use only a half a packet with the water/sedgehammer?
    A
We do not see why you could not break down the mixing ratio of Sedgehammer. However, this would be off label use, and  we do want to make sure you receive the best results, and we recommend speaking with Gowan  800-883-1844 for specific instructions.
