    Q
Watering after application of Sevin Dust 5%?
Good Morning. I read on one of the other questions that I should wait 48 hours after application before watering. The problem with this is I live in Louisiana and my plants are all in pots it just gets entirely to hot to wait 48 hours. It has been so hot here I have actually had to water them 2- 3 times a day this week. Would it be okay if I water them with a slow running hose directly in the dirt with out getting the leaves wet?
    A
As long as the Sevin Dust 5% does not get wet then watering the soil of the plants should be fine. Once the dust gets wet it is not longer effective.

    Q
Do I need to apply Sevin Dust 5% again after the rain?
I applied sevin dust to my plants the other day and then we had an unexpected rainstorm. The powder has dried to the top of the plants but should I reappy the powder again?
    A

When applying Sevin Dust, or any other insecticide dust outdoors, you want to have as many dry days in a row as possible to allow the product to work. Once it rains it will wash away the dust as it is not designed to stick to the surfaces outdoors long term.

    Q
Is it safe to apply Sevin Into soil? Please explain!
After reading the labels, I noticed that soil application mentioned. I am making my own potting soil. I am using recycled soil. I wish to apply seven into the wheelbarrow full of soil, and mix to help kill the different listed bugs I have had an issue with. I am using established plants, not seeds. I have used this product religiously for about 6 years now. But, is it okay to just add it to the soil? Will it kill all manner of pests just like if sprayed to the plant? Will it only kill soil bound insects, and eggs?
    A
According to the manufacturer, Sevin Dust should not be applied directly to soil that you are making. It will dissolve within the soil. It should only be used around established plants and the soil around those.

I applied the dust 5 days ago but I can still see it on the plants and veggies. Are they safe to eat? (All after their required harvest period of 3 days, but I'm concerned since i can still see the dust.)
    A

As long as you are outside the Pre-Harvest Interval window for each plant according to the product label for Sevin Dust, then the food would be safe to eat after washing.

    Q
Can Sevin Dust 5% be mixed with water to spray the vines and leaves of squash?
I have a bag of dust and an empty bottle that used to have Sevin spray in it. I don't feel comfortable "sprinkling dust"... "How much is just right ?" from this bag.
    A

No, Sevin Dust 5% should not be mixed with water. The rate of use for squash is .5 lbs per 1000 sq. ft.

If you are not comfortable using dust, we would recommend Sevin Concentrate. This can be mixed with water and sprayed directly onto the plants.

  • Asked by Jason from Wetumpka, Alabama
    01/28/2015
    Q
How long does the Sevin Dust need to be down on the yard before it rains?
trying to kill all insects and mites
    A
When applying Sevin Dust, or any other insecticide dust outdoors, you want to have as many dry days in a row as possible to allow the product to work. Once it rains it will wash away the dust as it is not designed to stick to the surfaces outdoors long term. A better option would be a residual insectice like Suspend Polyzone that you mix with water and after its dried for 6 hours, will hold up to rain and most outdoor elements for roughly 90 days before reapplication is needed. Suspend Polyzone can be applied to lawns, trees, flowers, ornamentals, bushes and on and around the home as protection as well. It is not for use on edibles so a product like Thuricide or Fertilome Triple Action would be better for pests on edibles/gardens.
