07/19/2014Allan asked:

Q
Will Suspend SC kill bird mites?
mites are on chicken and dogs and now us
A
Yes, Suspend SC will kill bird mites. Suspend SC should NOT be applied to the chickens, dogs or humans for the treatment of bird mites. Bird mites are very difficult to treat and control so in addition to just spraying you also need to vacuum regularly and thoroughly.  Also the use of some other key products in addition to Suspend SC will help treat the mites faster.  Please read our "How to Get Rid of Bird Mites" article for further recommendations.

07/17/2014Robert from TULLLAHOMA, TN asked:

Q
Is Suspend SC effective in controlling/exterminating brown recluse spiders?
Is Suspend safe to use around children and pets?
A
Suspend SC is great for treating spiders and their food source (which naturally drives them away from the area). It is safe for children and pets if used as directed on product label. Make sure they are not in the area during the application of the product and when the surfaces are wet. Once the treated areas are dry, they can re-enter. We recommend mixing 1.5 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft and treating monthly on the exterior of the structure and once every 90 days to indoor cracks and crevices.

Q
Will Suspend SC kill bed bugs?
A
Suspend SC will kill most strains of bed bugs. However, we do not recommend Suspend any longer. There are resistant strains of bed bugs Suspend will not kill. This is why we recommend one of our Bed Bug Kits.

Q
I have a dog that eats bugs. Will Suspend SC be harmful if she eats bugs that have been killed by Suspend SC?
veterinarian
A

If your pet eats insects that were killed by Suspend SC, there is only enough product for it to kill the insect in touches so there is a reduced risk for your pet. They will have to consume quite a few to be affected by the dead pests.

If you pet does show any signs of illness, we would recommend that you contact a veterinarian.

Q
Can Suspend SC be used to control ticks? If so, at what mixing ratio?
A

Suspend SC is labeled for treating ticks outdoors. You should mix 1.5 fluid ounces per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. We recommend adding an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Pivot 10 to impede the insects reproductive cycle. Q
Will Suspend SC kill symphylans?
will suspend SC kill symphylans aka garden centipedes?
A
Suspend SC would probably kill symphylans that came into contact with it, but this product cannot be used in an edible garden. Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is labeled for garden symphylan and can be used on edibles. Surface sprays offer limited control for garden centipedes because of the pest's ability to establish deep into the soil. You should also pack soil well before planting to reduce populations of this pest.

Q
How do I eliminate chiggers in my yard? We have 4 acres with a pond.
A
I would recommend Suspend SC for chiggers in your yard. One gallon of solution treats about 1,000 sq. ft. so you would need over 43 gallons of solution for just one acre.

Q
Best insecticide/IGR combo treatment for ticks and mosquitoes in Massachusetts?
I am located in MA, so some products like Talstar are not available to me, even though the pest control people use them :(. So I'm looking for a recommendation as to the best insecticide and IGR combo I can buy for usage here in MA. Looking to mainly treat the perimeter of my property for ticks and mosquitoes.
A
A good combination for ticks and mosquito control in MA is the insecticide Suspend SC and the IGR Pivot 10. They can both be shipped to your state.

Q
Have carpenter bees using suspend sc only reach with pump sprayer, anything better?
A
We are unsure if you are asking about a better pump sprayer for better application and reach with the spray, or if you are asking about a better product for control of carpenter bees. For a sprayer with better reach than a general hand pump sprayer, you could look at using the Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer which will allow a spray reach of at least 30 feet. If you are looking for a product that could be a little better than the Suspend SC you are currently using, they Cyonara 9.7 is a great cost effective option that will hold up to the outdoor elements a little longer and sit on the surface more for better coverage and control. Or you could get our complete Carpenter Bee Kit as well for the best control over the entire population in and on your home.

Q
Will a mixed batch create an odor over time?
I've been using Suspend SC for about a year. I normally make a gallon at a time and use about 1/2 gallon per treatment. This batch (made a month ago) smelled like rotten eggs. Going forward, I'm going to only make as much as I need, but I'm curious if leaving the mix for a month caused the odor. It's never happened before. Thanks!
A
Yes, leaving a mixed batch of Suspend SC may cause the mixed soulution to have a foul odor if left in the sprayer for an extended period of time. You should always mix what you need and perform a triple rinse when you are done.

Q
Will Suspend SC protect against carpenter bees when sprayed on Cedar
I built a cedar pergola and carpenter bees have shown interest in it. Can I spray the pergola with Suspend SC to protect? If yes, how often should I reapply? The pergola does get direct sun in Pennsylvania.
A
Suspend SC will treat for Carpenter bees. Since it is in direct sunlight, we recommend Suspend Polyzone which has a stronbger polymer to stand up to UV rays and create a lower release of active ingredient. You would want to reapply once every 2-3 months.

Q
Pond water as carrier
Will Suspend SC still be effective if you use a pond or lake as the water source for mixing. Is there usually too much organic material or ph issues that will render solution useless? If okay, approximately how long can you store the mixed solution before it becomes useless?
A
Pond water should be absolutely fine for you to use to mix the Suspend SC with when treating around your home and the water ph should not cause any problems. You only want to mix up what you plan to use as anything mixed needs to be used with 24-48 hours after being combined.

Q
What kills flying ants?
How do you get rid of giant black flying ants?
A
The winged flying ants will usually die in short order on their own because they are not able to fly off and secure a new nesting area for themselves. If you want to speed along the process you can use Microcare, a pyrethrin based aerosol. You should note that winged ants indoors most likely indicates an ant infestation somewhere in the home or under the home. You should carefully inspect the bathroom and try to find where the ants are emerging. You may even try to get a trail to start by placing a notecard with a dab of peanut butter and a dab of honey. Do NOT disturb the ant trail. By getting the ants to start a trail you will be able to figure out where the ants are entering into the bathroom and you will be able to directly treat the area with a product like Phantom or with ant baits. Please take a few minutes to read our article Getting rid of ants to learn more.

Q
Is there a product that can help me with spiders and roaches, and all those little creatures in my home?
I am looking for something i can do at home to keep those little guys to a minimum, i have a toddler and I would like to keep her safe. we do have some spiders here and there and some roaches in the kitchen once in a while. we are also noticing some earwigs also. Thank you.
A
Suspend SC will do a great job of controling roaches, spiders, earwigs as well as most any other pest. Depending on the amount of insects present in your area will play a part in how long it will take for the population to dwindle until its gone. Spraying once every 30 days or so in the beginning will help control the population well and then you may be able to back off to spraying only once ever 60-90 days or so. As long as you keep pets and children out of the area while you are doing the treatment and until the areas have completely dried (30 min-2 hours) it is completely safe.
