Permethrin SFR 36.8% - Questions & Answers

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled to eradicate carpenter bees that land on the treated surfaces. We suggest also using an insecticide dust applied with a duster to lightly dust the holes the have bored.

Permethrin SFR 36.8% will not harm cats after the treated area has dried. This may take 2-3 hours.

Permethrin SFR is labeled for army worms and will kill just about any insect.  We do not see how Permethrin SFR could be harmful to Geese.  It is only strong enough to kill small insects.  If it is safe for use around children and pets, we are confident that it would be safe for geese and water foul.

You should use the higher usage rate of Permethrin SFR for heavy infestations, faster knockdowns and longer lasting residuals and lower usage rates for maintenance sprays. You will need to use higher volumes of water to get the product over thick, dense vegetation. If you are treating your lawn for ticks, we recommend you use the higher specified usage rate of 0.8 fl oz for 1,000 sq ft using whatever volume of water is needed. If you are treating up close to your home you are permitted to use the .5% emulsion (1 2/3 fl. oz. per gallon of water) per 1,000 sq ft as a perimeter treatment. You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

In this case you can use the Permethrin SFR 36.8% at the .5% to the 1.0% based on the label with is (.5%) 1 2/3 oz  - (1.0%) 3 1/3 oz per gallon of water. This usage ratio would keep you within the 1% mixture rate. This would be enough for fleas and other pests outdoors depending on the weather condition (amount of rain, UV rays, etc). You do want to be sure the pets are completely out of the area while you are spraying, and until the product dries.

Permethrin SFR is a great choice for Japanese Beetle control. Be sure to use it at the highest concentration, avoiding the blooms if possible (may cause browing). Permethrin SFR may need to be applied once per month to avoid Japanese beetle damage. Pets and children need to be out of the area while the application is being done and they may return as soon as the application is dry. You can use PErmethrin SFR in a hose end sprayer as long as it can be calibrated to the required usage rate. According to the Permethrin SFR product label:  For fleas, ant and ticks in lawns - Mix 0.4 – 0.8 fl. oz. of Permethrin SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration.

Yes, Permethrin SFR is labeled for termites. It is recommended that you use this product around the perimeter of your home outdoors in a trench. The termites will come in contact with the treated soil and get it on themselves, but they will not take it back to the colony.

A better option would be to use Premise Foam in the areas where you have seen activity. This will be injected at the studs of the wall. 

Yes, Permethrin SFR 36.8% is a non-selective insecticide, so it would kill roaches of any species or size that come into contact with the direct spray or residual. If you are only seeing roaches occasionally and need a residual spray to create a barrier, then you have many options. Temprid SC is water-based and contains two active ingredients for longer control. It also does not have the odor that sprays with permethrin will have. Permethrin SFR is a different formulation than the products that are labeled for use on clothing and it should not be used to treat clothing under any circumstances. Permethrin SFR is not labeled for chiggers which is why we do not recommend it for chiggers. Manufacturers do a lot of research and testing before they are allowed to add an insect to their label. In this case the manufacturer may have felt that the product was not effective enough on chiggers to add the insect to the label or that chiggers were not a significant enough of a pest to do the research and testing on so didn't even try to add it to the label. SFR stands for Surfactant for Richard. Apparently Richard was one of the staff members who helped formulate the product and the suffix stuck.

Per the Permethrin SFR product label:  "When treating poultry houses for bedbugs or chicken mites, apply as a spray 4 fl oz to 10 gallons of water.  For severe infestation, it is permissible to use 4 fl oz to 4 gallons.

When treating poultry directly:  Use 1-4 fl oz in 3 3/4 gallons water, which should treat roughly 375 birds. Use 1 gallon of coarse spray per 100 birds."

 

According to the Permethrin SFR product label you will need to use about 1 2/3 fl oz per gallon of water for each 1,000 sq ft area. You will need to keep your dog out of the area during the application and the dog can return to the area after it has dried. There will only be very small diluted deposits of the insecticide on your lawn and the small amount that you pet may ingest should not have any effect.

Yes, this product is labeled for use on livestock such as horses and cattle as well as other animals. We have listed the specifications for horses below but you can find more information on the Product Label.

For use on Horses to control:Horn flies, face flies,stable flies, house flies,horse flies, black flies,eye gnats, mange mites,scabies mites, ticks, lice and fleas: Use ¼ fl. oz. to 1 pt. water, 0.6257% AI. Low pressure spray. Application: 1-2 fl. oz. spray per animal. Spot treat back, face, legs tail and ears.

Applying insecticidal soaps like Bonide Insecticidal soap. can help control the larvae, and insecticides like Permethrin SFR can be used to prevent the adults from laying eggs. Saturating the the soil at the tree’s base with insecticide is also recommended to kill the grubs still burrowing there.

The shelf life for Permethrin SFR 36.8% is 3-5 years from the date of purchase if stored at room temperature.  You shoudl only mix up what you are going to use the day you plan to make an application.  Any mixed solution left in a sprayer will become ineffective.  Always follow the product label for mixing and application rates for the pest(s) you are treating.  Not following these guidelines can adversely affect the product and your results. 

The mixing ratio of Permethrin SFR  in diesel is 0.4 fl. oz. to one gallon.

After all surfaces treated with Permethrin SFR 36.8% are completely dry, the dogs can return.

Permethrin SFR does have a residual effect and a good knockdown quality which is why it is very popular for tick control.  The residual can be expected to last for about 30 days.  The Permethrin SFR will not penetrate tick eggs, however once a tick hatches it is very susceptible to the Permethrin and should die very quickly.  Permethrin can be diluted for application on animals.  Please read the product label for full instructions on treating animals.

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be applied to cattle. For treating fly/lice, you will apply 4 fl oz per 2 1/2 gallons of low pressure spray or 1/2 fl oz per ear for ear tick. It can also be applied at the rate of 4 oz per 25 gallon (treats 50-100 heads). For scabies, mange, lice and ticks you will wet the animal thoroughly and repeat applications in 10-14 days. For a backrubber/self oiler, you will add 4 fl oz to 10 gallons of diesel oil or suitable mineral oil. Please refer to Pages 47 & 48 on the product label for specific mixing and application instructions prior to use.
