    Q
What is the setting for Permethrin SFR 36.8% in Ortho Dial-N-Spray Hose Sprayer?
I'm looking to treat my yard with Permethrin 36.8. I'm trying to figure out what dial indication on my hose end sprayer I should be using for my yard treatment per gallon. I have dials such as 1 oz, 1-1/2 oz, 2 oz, etc. and all the way up to 8 oz. What are your recommendations? This will primarily be used for treating for ticks and mosquitoes.
    A

The mixing ratio for Permethrin SFR 36.8% on lawns is anywhere between 0.4 oz up to 0.8 oz per 1000 square feet or per gallon of water. A dial setting at half of an ounce per gallon on the hose end sprayer would work for most sprayers, but we would recommend to calibrate your equipment with just water before applying your insecticide to make sure you are not using too little or too much insecticide for the area.

Permethrin SFR is only labeled for mosquito control on livestock premises. A better product for mosquito control outdoors is Talstar P. Talstar P is gentle on vegetation where you will be spraying for mosquitoes and it will last up to one month for mosquito control. When using Talstar for mosquito control, you will use 1 oz of product per gallon of water. Talstar P can also be used for tick control, if you would like to use only one product for your needs.

Permethrin SFR is labeled for chinch bugs.  Per the product label you use 0.4 to 0.8 oz per 1000 sqft in 4 -25 gallons of water.  You want to be sure to use enough water to get the product below the thatch layer when dealing with chinch bugs.

    Q
Will Cyfluthrin kill the sarcoptic mange mites inside and outside of the house?
I must find the source of the sarcoptic mites and kill them.
    A
There are very few products that have sarcoptic mites or scabies mites listed on their product labels. You didn't mention if the mites are a problem on people or on animals, but the environmental treatment is pretty much the same. Wash and dry (high heat) all bedding and thoroughly vacuum all resting areas. Indoors you can use a product called Steri-Fab on all upholstered furniture, rugs and pet beds and resting areas. Outdoors you can use a product called Permethrin SFR on pet resting areas and other areas frequented by your pet. In most cases, it is not necessary to treat the outdoor environment unless it is frequented by animals such as stray dogs or foxes because sarcoptic mites cannot live very long off of the host animal (usually not more than 72 hours).

    Q
We have identified zimmerman pine moth, which is more effective the Permethrin or Bifenthrin?
    A
Both permethrin and bifenthrin are synthetic pyrethroids and will provide very comparable results for zimmerman moths. Bifenthrin does tend to last a little longer than permethrin.

  • Asked by Nelson from Clinton,nc
    10/16/2013
    Q
What do I spray to kill pine beetles?
I have about 10 acres of long leaf pine trees that are in rows. We harvest the pine straw to sell but the trees are dying in sections and I found out it was pine beetles. What do I spray and do I use the boom or spray the sections that are infested with a wand I guess each tree that has it or what thanks nelson
    A
Unfortunately, there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a product called Permethrin SFR. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations.

    Q
I live in Michigan with a yard that backs up to the woods. I have a big problem with mosquitoes.
Any suggestions? I am currently using Permethrin SFR.
    A
Is the Permethrin SFR working well?  If so, we always recommend to stick with what works.  Once downside to Permethrin SFR is that it usually does not last very long outside, usually only a week or two.  We do have a product called Talstar, which is our most popular product for flea control and it will last for 30 days before needing to be reapplied.

  • Asked by Emanuel from Harvey, La
    04/13/2017
    Q
How should I mix Permethrin SFR to treat for roaches inside?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is mixed at a rate of 1 2/3 fl oz per gallon of water.   We also recommend you review our Roach Guide so you can understand how to  implement a full roach control program for best efficacy as sprays alone will not eliminate roaches and do not act as a repellents to keep them away.
