    Q
How do I get rid of pine beetles?
    A
Unfortunately, there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a product called Dragnet. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations.

    Q
How long is Dragnet SFR effective against treating fleas indoors?
I have called the exterminator twice within the span of about 2 weeks to treat fleas indoors. I was wondering if it doesn't last long, or does it just kill the fleas that are on the ground at the time...My dog is on a topical monthly flea treatment, but she seems to get bitten as soon as she comes back into our home despite having the place sprayed twice with the product...Any answers will be helpful. Thank you
    A
Dragnet SFR does have a residual but it is not typically very long. Only a few weeks.  However, the bigger issue is if the company did not use an IGR, which is an insect growth regulator.  IGR's are essential when treating fleas because it prevents them from reproducing and laying more eggs.  Also, Dragnet SFR will not kill flea eggs, so when the company comes to spray they are probably killing some of the adults but not any eggs.  So after they leave and over the next few weeks you have new flea eggs hatching.  This is why our indoor flea kit comes with an easy to use aerosol can with flea killer and IGR in one can.  Also, you should be vacuuming thoroughly before the flea treatment and then you need to treat exactly 14 days later since flea eggs hatch every 2 weeks.

    A
You will use any where from 1 2/3 fl oz - 6 2/3 fl oz per gallon of water depending on what you are treating and where you will be applying the product. We recommend that you take a few moments to read the Dragnet SFR product label to find the correct usage rates for your needs.

    Q
I applied Dragnet SFR two weeks ago to my lawn for fleas, mosquitoes and chinch bugs. Should I reapply?
I also applied Archer IGR two weeks ago, should I reapply on lawn once again? What do you recommend?
    A
Yes, you should reapply to continue seeing the results. Dragnet SFR and Archer IGR typically will only have about a two week residual in direct sunlight.  If your lawn is in sunlight during the day, then you should definitely reapply the products.  Also, it is recommended to treat every 14 days anyways when treating for fleas.

    Q
Do you need to use an IGR with Dragnet? If so can it be mixed together or does it have to be done separately?
    A
Dragnet SFR can be mixed with Insect Growth Regulators (IGR) with no problem. You do not have to mix IGRs with Dragnet unless the pest you are treating requires you to do so.

    Q
Are Dragnet and Temprid harmful in any way to pet rats?
I've found cockroaches in my pet rats cage so I was told it needed to be sprayed but i'm concerned even after the chemical dries it might somehow be dangerous.
    A

We would not recommend spraying either Temprid nor Dragnet SFR inside the cage itself.  You should thoroughly clean and wash the cage instead. Then treat the rooms the cages are kept in, removing the rats completely during treatment and until dry.

We would recommend using one of our roach control kits to treat.

We also have a great article with more information on roach control.

Dragnet SFR is a discontinued product. We do offer a product called Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide that has the same active ingredient as Dragnet and would work great for you as a replacement option.

    Q
Can you use Dragnet with a hose end sprayer and which one do you recommend? What setting would you use?
    A
You could use a hose end sprayer to apply Dragnet outdoors for flea control. We of course would recommend the hose end sprayer that we carry and it will be set on the .80 fl oz per gallon of water setting. We carry the Chapin Hose End Sprayer 6004. We carry this hose end sprayer because it is so easy to use.

  • Asked by Linda from Atlanta, Ga

    Q
Does Dragnet SFR prevent pine beetles from infecting healthy trees?
I have a pine tree infested with pine beetles. The three pines around it are still healthy and do not have beetles. My tree guy said to spray Dragnet 15 feet up the healthy trees to prevent the beetles from migrating. Have you heard of using the product in this way? Do you know if it works?
    A
Your tree guy was correct. Using a permethrin based product such as Dragnet sprayed from the base up to 15 ft up the trunk is the recommended preventative treatment. You should contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

    Q
Will Dragnet SFR kill grain weevils and carpenter ants ?
    A

Dragnet SFR (which has been discontinued by the manufacturer a while back) does list carpenter ants on the label but it only refers to the control of root weevils and not all weevils in general. If you have this product already and are looking to spray it around the foundation of the home the ingredient in it will likely kill most any insect that crawls over the treated surface. If you are having trouble with carpenter ants indoors you would typically want to bait for them to eliminate the whole colony. For grain weevils, clean out any infested materials in the home and use a general insecticide like Suspend SC for cracks and crevices if treating a large area, or if small areas like cabinets and pantries use an aerosol product like Cy Kick or D-Force
