Q
Trying to get rid of several kinds of spiders, some quite large, in a studio warehouse type commercial bldg.
We have used Home Defense from Home Depot and other products purchased at the hardware store, but they don't work very well...maybe not at all.
A
Talstar P would be great choice to spray outside and inside the building for the treatment of spiders (all species) and over 75 other insects. It is to be applied indoor cracks and crevices every three months and outside monthly. We would also sugges placing glue boards at entry points and areas with high activity.

Q
I live in CA and I have roaches, earwigs and some spiders.
I'm looking for a good all around spray to use on the outside of the house and perimeter of the yard. I do have dogs that can be put indoors for a short time to do the spray and let it dry. Also, I have small kids with lots of toys and swing in yard.
A
We would recommend that you treat in and out of your home with Talstar. It can be applied along the baseboards inside once every three months and outside monthly. You will mix 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. It is labeled to treat roaches, earwigs, spiders and many more. It is safe for children and pets when dry. We do not recommend spraying the outdoor toys and swings that the children play with.

My wife is a few months pregnant, is it safe to apply Talstar indoors?
I've been using this product for a couple of years with great results. But now that my wife is pregnant, I want to know if it's safe to continue using while she is pregnant. And once our child is born, will it be safe to use then? Thanks in advance.
A
Talstar is safe for people and pets to re enter the treated area after it has dried. They should not be in the area when the product is being applied.

Tricia from Ft Myers Florida asked:

Q
What is the best product to use for a millipede infestation?
A
Millipedes are usually going to be present when there is a lot of moisture in the area. If you have a lot of mulch near your house you may want to consider raking it back at least six inches away from the house. Also trimming bushes so that you can see the soil beneath them and so they do not touch the house will help reduce soil moisture and stop the insects from gaining access to the house via the bushes.  Talstar P would be a great choice for this pest.  You would apply around the outside perimeter of the home (especially under and around eaves, decks, patios, and window shutters), and inside along baseboards, in cracks and crevices, and other potential millipede harborages. We have also written an article with other tips that may help you with millipede control : Get Rid of Millipedes

Q
Bug poison for yards.
I am looking for a granular ant/roach/arachnid poison that is dog safe. I am probably asking for to much.
A
Our most popular general use product is called Talstar P, which would be a better product for trying to control spiders and the prey they feed on.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  Children and pets should be out of the area while you are applying the product until it dries.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

Julie from Douglassville PA asked:

Q
I have a question about using two different pest control items around the same time.
I like the treat the outside of my home every three months with Termidor for ant prevention. Recently, we have been inundated with stink bugs and I would like to treat the outside of the home with Talstar Pro (because of the good reviews it has with stinkbug control). Since it is recommended that Talstar be used monthly for stink bugs, there would be months where I am using both the Talstar and the Termidor. Is this ok---do they affect each other's ability to kill bugs?
A

Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide. This means that ants and other insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. Termidor SC also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows the ants time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Talstar P on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Ants may avoid the areas treated with Talstar and those ants that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Talstar P does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Termidor SC will not actually be deactivated by Talstar P, it will be much less effective if it is over-sprayed with Talstar P.

You can spray the Talstar P higher up around window frames, window sills, door frames,  any cracks and crevices around foundation or where caulking around windows and doors has opened up, around vents leading inside, and around lights (these bugs are attracted to the light from windows, doors, etc).

Q
Will Talstar harm auto paint?
A
Talstar is a waterbased product and will not usually harm any surface that would not be harmed by water alone. Having said that, Talstar has not been tested on auto paint as it is not labeled for this type of application.

Q
Something growing in my Talstar P
I have a 3/4 gal bottle of Talstar P. It is one year old. I have used it in my 2 homes and it is very effective. But today, I went to use it and noticed some dark green or grey black splotches in the measuring area of the bottle. There was only residual product in that part. I measured out the amount I needed and when I poured it out, it was somewhat clumpy. Which indicates a fungus growing in there. Just want to know your thoughts. I keep the bottle in my basement in a cabinet, so there is no light hitting the bottle. Thanks!
A

We apologize that there appears to be fungus like substance in your bottle of Talstar P. There was an issue with one Lot of 3/4 gallon Talstar from FMC last year. We would be more than happy to ship you a new bottle or refund you for this bottle from the defective Lot. You can call us at 866-581-7378 to follow up of this matter up.

Q
Why does the label say not to broadcast spray Talstar P indoors for fleas?
A
The manufacturer has created the product, performed the research and testing for Talstar P. We do not make the product labels or the products. For additional information on Talstar P, please contact FMC at 1-800-321-1362. We do carry some great liquid concentrates for indoor floor broadcast such as Onslaught, Conquer, Permethrin and Tengard. They can be mixed with Archer IGR or NyGuard IGR for indoor flea treatments along with vacuuming even on hard surface floors. A minimum of two treatments outside and inside every two weeks. Please contact us at 866.581.7378 if you would like more information on treating your home for fleas.

Q
Do the chemicals have an expiration date?
do the chemicals lose strength after awhile. I have some Talstar and Demand and was wondering if I need to purchase new due to having these bottles for about 4 yrs.
A
When stored in ideal conditions - out of extreme temperatures and direct sunlight - most insecticides, Talstar and Demand included - will last for 5 years on the shelf. If yours have been properly stored, you do have some life left in your bottles!

Jamie from lower merion, pa asked:

Q
Can Talstar be stored in a large water tank for commercial use or will it need to mixed before each use?
A
Talstar P is to be mixed and sprayed when needed. You do not want to store the mixed solution longer than 24 hours. The product will lose its efficacy and it could damage your application equipment. Please discard any remaining product left unused and rinse the sprayer, nozzle and wand.

Jay from philadelphia, pa asked:

Q
Can Talstar P be applied using a pressure washing system rather than a misting backpack sprayer?
A
We recommend using the 1 fl oz of Talstar P per gallon of water ratio for the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. As for using it in the pressure washer, we really cannot give any advice on that type of application as most insecticide (if not all) are not labeled for use in pressure washer.

A
Yes, Talstar P will kill ticks. We also recommend mixing in an IGR to help break down the reporductive cycle. You can use something like Nyguard IGR. You would mix 1 oz Talstar with 1 oz Nyguard IGR into one gallon water.
