FAQs:

What is Herbicidal Soap?
Herbicidal Soap is an environmentally friendly product made from naturally occurring fatty acids. It provides a quick burn-down of algae, moss, and weeds. It is extremely fast acting so you will start to see results within hours of application, (not days like other products.)

Where can I use Herbicidal Soap?
It can be used to control moss, algae, and weeds on or around buildings, sidewalks, fences, trees, mulch, driveways, patios, etc. For weed control apply to actual growing weeds that are less than five inches high for best results. Most annual weeds are controlled and it provides a burn down on perennial weeds. Prior to planting a garden, you can use Herbicidal Soap to control the weeds, but wait 5 days before planting the garden. Herbicidal Soap can be used anytime of year, but the warmer the weather the faster the results.

How do I mix Herbicidal Soap?
Mix 26 oz of product per 1 gallon of water. Herbicidal Soap is available in a 130 oz container which, when mixed with 5 gallons of water, provides six gallons of finished spray. For lesser amounts, single use, use 26 oz per gallon of water. The mixed solution should be sprayed to thoroughly cover the plant, generally 2½ - 7½ gallons per 1000 sq ft. When used as a spot treatment, thoroughly spray the individual weeds. Avoid rainfall or irrigation for at least 3 hours after treatment.

What other usages are there for Herbicidal Soap?
Besides algae and moss control on roofs and sidewalks, Herbicidal Soap can be used as a contact burn-down spray around small fruits, such as strawberries and underneath fruit trees. In regions that have bermuda grass lawns, many people use glyphosate to control winter weeds, when the bermuda is dormant. This is not the best practice. If the bermuda is not completely dormant, it can be injured. A much safer solution would be the use of Herbicidal Soap.

What Precautions do I observe?
Avoid drift onto desired plants. Don’t plant seeds in flowerbed or vegetable garden for 5 days after application. The warmer the weather, the faster the control.

    Band-Aid on a Puncture Wound

    By Jc on 03/24/2017

Even though it's not a high concentrate, the 1-3 mix does a good job of killing the foliage of soft-leave weeds. Unfortunately, it is only good for cosmetic kill-back. Weeds will be back in no time at all. Gave it a try, will go back to Glyphosate (RoundUp).

Q
Will Monterey Herbicide Soap kill the moss growing all over my flower garden?
A

Monterey Herbicidal Soap is labeled to control moss growing on or around buildings, sidewalks, fences, trees, bark mulch, driveways, patios and gravel and would be used in those areas only.  Another option would be Lilly Miller Moss Out Spot Treater which is labeled for moss in flower beds.
