Directions for Use:

Monterey Garden Insect Spray is for residential use in home gardens, lawns and ornamentals. Not for use on plants being grown for sale or other commercial use, or for commercial seed production or for research purposes.

Monterey Garden Insect Spray is intended for control of worms and caterpillars and other listed insects. It does not significantly impact predatory beneficial insects, predatory mites and spiders while controlling target pests. Susceptible insect pests may be observed on plants up to several hours after treatment, but will have ceased active feeding before being killed.

How to Mix:

Add the required amount of Monterey Garden Insect Spray to the specified amount of water, mix thoroughly and apply uniformly to both upper and lower surfaces of plant foliage. Mix only as much spray as needed for a single treatment. In vegetable gardens, for best results, do not use more than 3 gallons of spray for 1,000 sq. ft. of area.

HOW TO APPLY

Monterey Garden Insect Spray may be applied with trigger sprayer, hand-held, backpack, or hose-end sprayers. Use a hose-end sprayer that can be adjusted to provide a dilution ratio of about 2 fl. oz. (4 Tbs.) of Monterey Garden Insect Spray per gallon of spray.

Hose-End Sprayer Directions:

  1. Before beginning, make sure the top blue water flow valve is in the “OFF” position, and the side red product flow valve is up in the “OFF” position.
  2. Shake container well and attach it to your garden hose.
  3. Turn on the water faucet.
  4. To apply, remove side pin labeled “PULL OUT” and rotate the side red product flow valve counterclockwise to the “ON” position. While holding the sprayer at waist height point the sprayer away from your face and body, and put the top blue water flow valve clockwise to the upright “OFF” position and replace the side pin.
  5. When spraying is complete, or if spraying stops at any time, press the top blue water flow valve with thumb to the rear to shut off water. Turn the side red product flow valve clockwise to the upright “OFF” position and replace the side pin.
  6. Turn off the water at the faucet.
  7. Remove the container from the garden hose, rinse thoroughly, and follow the directions in the Storage and Disposal section for storing or disposing of the container.

On vegetables and fruit trees how close to harvest can I apply?

On most vegetables 1 day before harvest and the minimum on fruit trees is 7-14 days. Consult the label for the exact time.

How often do I spray and how far apart should the sprays be?

That depends on the level of infestation. On most vegetables and fruits up to 6 applications can be made per season. These are spaced at 7 day intervals or more. On ornamentals and lawns there are no restrictions.

How much do I use?

The proper mixture is 2 oz. (4 tablespoons) per gal. of water and apply thoroughly to the area to be treated. Spray foliage to the point of runoff. On vegetables do not use more than 3 gallons of spray (6 oz.) per 1,000 sq. ft.

What about fruit trees for borers control?

It works excellent on these insects that get into stone fruit. Apply at 7 day intervals throughout the infestation period.

What about lawns?

Armyworms and sod webworms are a big problem in some areas. This is the product for you. Apply 6 oz. in 3 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet. Delay watering and mowing for 24 hours after application.

What about fire ants?

Monterey Garden Insect Spray can be used to control fire ants as an individual mound treatment. Apply 2 oz. per gallon of water in a water can or similar devise. Apply 1-2 gallons of this mixture per mound. Apply 10% around the mound and the remainder onto it. Do not disturb the mound before treatment. For best results, apply following a recent rainfall when temperatures are between 65-85 ºF.

Won't be positive for another month, but seems to be the best bagworm solution (doesn't harm beneficial insects.)

Q
Can Monterey Garden Insect Spray be added to dormant oil spray in early spring for apples? Or is this product used instead of dormant oil?
A

The Monterey Garden Insect Spray does not specifically state on its product label whether it can or can't be mixed with other insecticides that allow for usage in the same treatment areas. While we do not see any harm in mixing those two particular organic insecticides together to apply at the same time, we suggest doing a tank mix test first to make sure the products will be compatible and not clump, discolor or change quality in the tank before spraying.
