Use Information

Apply Pylex to actively growing weeds as a postemergence broadcast or spot spray in labeled turfgrass species at the specified rate and growth stage. DO NOT exceed the labeled application rate or fail to comply with use specifications in Restrictions and Limitations.

For best results, weeds should be actively growing and not under stress from lack of water, excessive water, low fertil - ity, mowing shock, excessive hot or cold temperatures, or injury from other herbicide applications.

To achieve consistent weed control, a crop oil concentrate (COC) or methylated seed oil (MSO) adjuvant is required.

Turfgrass Tolerance

Apply Pylex during favorable growing conditions for optimum turfgrass tolerance and weed control. Turfgrass under environmental stress is more likely to show injury, such as transient bleaching, from herbicide applications. These symptoms are temporary, and turfgrass vigor is not affected.

Spot Applications

Postemergence spot applications of Pylex herbicide may be made to susceptible weeds in tolerant turfgrass species. Apply 0.023 to 0.034 fl oz (0.7 to 1.0 mL) of Pylex per 1000 square feet of treated area. Spray coverage should be uniform and complete.

Mowing Information

To maximize weed control and minimize potential turfgrass injury, DO NOT mow 2 days before through 2 days after applying Pylex.

Irrigation and Rainfall

If soil moisture is not sufficient before Pylex application, irrigation may improve weed control. For best results, DO NOT water or irrigate for 24 hours after application.

Tank Mixing Information

Read and follow the applicable restrictions and limitations and directions for use on all products involved in tank mixing. Always follow the most restrictive label use directions.

Physical incompatibility, reduced weed control, or turfgrass injury may result from mixing Pylex with other pesticides (fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, or miticides), additives, or fertilizers. Before tank mixing, a jar test is required to ensure compatibility of herbicides or other pesticides and/or additives. Refer to manufacturer’s labels for specific use directions, precautions, restrictions, and limitations before tank mixing with Pylex. Follow those that are most restrictive.

*See label for the complete list of pests controlled and application directions.

    Works like a charm!

    By Mark on 03/01/2017

I know this stuff is expensive, but it works great. I had an infestation of bermuda grass on my lawn from a neighboring pasture. Two applications and reseeding of fescue and it's a new lawn. Follow the instructions. I followed the advice of the Virginia Tech ag extension. In in NC. Bermuda turns white after a couple of weeks. Second application killed off the remaining. For me, it beat the alternative of killing off the lawn with roundup and starting over.

if you can get over the price- this kills the bermudagrass

    By Joe on 07/04/2019

Okay the investment in terms of the package you need to buy is preposterous. You apply 0.7ML per gallon and have to buy 8 oz or 237ml.. which means you need to buy enough to make 338 gallons which treats 338,000 sq feet. For $500. But if you need to get rid of bermudagrass in fescue like my silly HOA demands, and can get past this investment challenge, the outcome is great. I have to admit for the first 4 days I was convinced I made a huge mistake. Then it started visibly working. Now after 2 weeks the bermudagrass is turning white and the grass is green and fine. Wow I have wasted way too much time in the past with ineffective solutions like fusilade & tenacity, finding just the right day, applying over and over etc. Triclopyr worked a little but is a bermudagrass discourager, not killer. I tried roundup one year but the bermudagrass just came back anyways. The roundup wasn't that expensive but the grass seed was. My pylex package came with a ml syringe (no needle) that is great for dispensing the very small amount (thanks). You need to buy the MSO. What I didn't catch is that the pylex secondary label tells you to use triclopyr in addition to the mso- i took that as a very strong recommendation. So plan ahead with your domyown order. I would also recommend a dye if you are spraying enough. The label recommends 2 or 3 applications finishing 3 weeks before seeding time, which means I can apply in the summer. Perfect. Cause that's when bermudagrass takes over. I can't tell you how next year will be but at least this is real progress. Crazy expensive- yup. Only thing that works-check. Possible solution or at least significant gain for the first time in years in my struggle against bermudagrass in fescue- bingo. Highly recommended. All we need to do is get it in containers 1/8 the size

    It's worth the high price.

    By Tom on 07/24/2019

I've spent $$$ fighting Bermuda in my tall fescue over the past 12 years but achieved nothing more than moderate control. Ordered Pylex and applied it in September last year. I've had some trouble spots return as of late July it's no where near as bad as previous years. I'm going to make an application in early August and a second in early September this year in hopes of knocking it out once and for all.

Dallis & Bermuda Crabgrass is toast

    By Ryan on 07/29/2022

Worth every Penny! After reading other reviews and (my soon to be old) lawn service acted like roundup was the only solution - NOT TRUE! Our tall fescue lawn was being taken over by Dallis, Bermuda, and a few other types broadleaf crabgrasses. I have to admit after the first 5 days I thought I made a huge mistake from mixing, to applying, and ultimately to purchasing. After converting units and mixing instructions on DIY website (watch these!) I used my 1-gal roundup hand sprayer to apply “Pyledriver” mix (Pylex + Methylated Seed Oil + Drive-XLR8). The first application is absolutely kicking ALL these crabgrasses in the teeth. Will apply second application 2.5 weeks apart but so far there has been negligible yellowing of fescue and glorious bleaching of crabgrass' everywhere. I'm not going to lie. It felt good. Real good.

Q
Is there a similar product to Pylex Herbicide that kills bermuda grass (but does not harm fescue) but in a smaller size or more affordable price?
A

Yes, Fusilade II Herbicide would be a great and lower cost alternative to the Pylex herbicide. It can be used in a fescue lawn to kill bermuda grass. It can be VERY difficult to kill completely, and will take multiple treatment to get it done but Fusilade II is usually the go to product for this issue.

This is directly off the product label:

Apply 0.07-0.14 oz/1000 sq. ft  (3-6 oz/A) along with 0.25% V/V (1/2 pt./25 gals.) of non ionic surfactant. Application should be made every 28 days when the grass weeds are actively growing. The higher rates may result in temporary discolorization of the desirable turf with recovery in 10-14 day. Do not apply to desirable turf under stress. For best results, make applications in spring and fall and avoid treatments during July and August.

Complete control of undesirable grass may take 1-2 growing seasons.

We recommend calling your local county extension office as they usually know the optimum times for spraying lawns in your area.

Q
When do you recommend applying Pylex Herbicide for dallis grass and bermuda grass?

Should I use it any of time doing the year? I'm seeding and aerating 3rd week in September.

A

There are two application options for using Pylex Herbicide to treat for dallisgrass and bermudagrass. Please refer to the product label and chart below.

Option A: 3 applications at 0.023 to 0.030 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft applied at 3-4 week intervals

    * First application mid to late summer or approx 9-12 weeks before fall resseding period for cool season grasses.

Option B: 2 applications at 0.034 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft applied at 3-4 week intervals.

    * First applciation mid to late summer or approx 6-8 weeks before fall resseding period for cool season grasses.

Q
How many ounces or mL of Pylex Herbicide and surfactant do I use per gallon of water?
A

Pylex Herbicide is mixed at 0.023 - 0.034 oz. per 0.75 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. The amount of the surfactant will vary depending on the one that you have and dilutions can be found on the product label.

Q
If you are suppressing bermudagrass and tank mixing Pylex with Triclopyr, should you still add a MSO?

I don't want to harm my TTTF with adding too much to the mix. Just want to know if the MSO is still supposed to be added along with the Triclopyr...

A

Pylex Herbicide states on the product label that MSO is the only type of surfactant that would be safe to mix with it.  For bermudagrass it does state you need to do so and tank mix with a triclopyr product so would be safe when used as directed.  Be sure to not apply to fescue during the heat of the day or when it is stressed by drought.
