Protecta Sidekick Bait Station - A Godsend!
By Dave in Portland, OR on 08/03/2011
Using standard Victor traps to trap rats was a problem because I didn't want to trap squirrels, dogs and kids. Plus, the rats were stealing bait without setting the traps off. Once I deployed T-Rex traps inside Protecta Sidekick Bait Stations I had found the answer. The T-Rex traps are super effective and easy to use, and the Protecta Sidekick Bait Station protects the traps from squirrels, dogs & kids. The combination of T-Rex traps and Protecta Sidekick Bait Stations is a professional solution, and I recommend them highly. Try 'em both & I think you'll like 'em too.

Good size but too hard to open
By Linda in Long Beach, CA on 12/12/2010
I have a small yard and like the size of this station but unlocking it is just to difficult. I have resorted to using the devise (key) and prying it open at the same time with a knife. That's an unpleasant task with a dead rodent in it. Also there were no instructions included that explain how to use the key to unlock the station. While I think it's an overall good buy until the unlocking system is simplified I would not purchase another.

Good size but hard to open
By Nick in La Verne, CA on 09/05/2011
Similar to the Protecta LP but holds more bait and taller allowing more bait because it can be double stacked on each other. The key is positioned the other direction which makes it hard to open. Other than than that they are great.

Safe Rat Killing
By Harry in Coal Creek Canyon, CO on 09/27/2011
The only way to safely set out rat traps. Keeps kids and pets away from the deadly trap. Also keeps things clean because the dead Ratatouille is inside, not out in the open for touching or eating. I used mine to fit the rat traps from Do My Own Pest Control inside. Worked well...only slight complaint is hard to open...should send detailed instruction on use of key to open.

These work well, good size, but i find them a bit difficult to open. Perhaps after some time they will loosen up a bit.
By Duane in Alice, ND on 10/26/2016
I am always worried about my pets. I think these are about as safe as you can get. They lock the bait inside as long as the cover stays closed the bait is caught and should not come out. "IF PROPERLY CHECKED OFTEN ENOUGH SO THE BAIT ISN'T EATEN OFF THE POST TO THE POINT OF FALLING OFF"! Then it could roll around and roll out the holes if a dog would get at it. Now nothing is fool proof if a pet wants to get in there bad enough, but this isn't bad.
Sturdy and just right

Pleny big for what I needed. Easily contains the T-rex trap.
Ordered units had a problem which was resolved easily
By Bob in Olympia, wa on 12/13/2015
I ordered a case of 6 after an animal made off with (3) of the bait stations had previously ordered, still MIA. When I got this order the posts were missing along with a key. A quick phone call resolved my problem. It was handled very professionally and quickly. I would have no problem placing another order.

Rat Bait Station

I Like the alignment of the walkway so you can leave the feeder station up against the wall.
Too hard to open.
By Jeng in Boston, MA on 11/09/2014
Much harder to get open than my old boxes. I've actually left them ajar at this point and sternly warned the kids not to mess with them (they're old enough to be responsible). The lock's supposed to deal with tampering, not prevent regular maintenance!

Hard to open
By Jim in Marietta Georgia on 10/17/2014
Hard to open plus if you order more than one they only give you one key
Because these traps use a universal key, we only ship one per order. You can order extra keys at any time here: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/key-for-protecta-rat-and-mouse-bait-station-p-253.html
Very effective. Rodents can't resist these

Holds eight bait blocks!

A little hard to open, but holds eight bait blocks. Perfect for the homes or yards that have a full blown infestation.
Hold 8 blocks!
By Bryce in Vernal, UT on 09/08/2014
I choose these stations because as far as I can tell there is no other station that will hold this volume of bait. This is especially helpful on mouse clean-out jobs when you need large amounts of bait in the beginning for the initial knock down. My only complaint is the mechanism you have to open them with can be a little tough. Also I am anticipating this will be extremely tough in the winter. With snow and ice.

QIs there a way to keep squirrels from getting into the Protecta Sidekick Rat Bait Station?
AYes, it is possible that a smaller squirrel can fit in the Protecta Sidekick Rat Bait Stations. Since squirrels and rats are similar sized, there are not really any options that will target only rats and not squirrels other than a live catch trap so if you happen to catch the squirrel you can let it go.
QDo you have more literature on the Protecta Sidekick Installation/Maintenance?
I am in charge of the ready service contract for pest control for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. For our rodents, we use over 50 of the Protecta Sidekicks at our facility. I would like to know if there is any literature or guidelines for installing and maintaining the boxes so we can ensure our contractor is adhering to your guidelines. I am hoping your guidelines and literature will answer some of these questions. Where is the best placement of the boxes? What is the distance that should be between each box? How does the box reduce the rodent population? When should the bait be changed? How do you determine if the box is effective at its current area? Also, since I'm new to pest control, do you offer any introductory classes, seminars, webinars that will educate me in this field? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
AWe only have the information you see available on our website. The manufacturer very well may have more information available for commercial applications. You can reach Bell Labs at 800-323-6628. We do believe that they may have videos available that would explain more on installation in commercial facilities.

QIs it possible for raccoons to get the bait inside the Protecta Sidekick Rat Bait Station?
I think I saw a raccoon trying to get the bait from inside the station, but I'm not sure if they're actually getting it or not.
A Raccoons could get the bait if it has been eaten down enough to not be on the rods inside the station. †You should monitor the stations monthly or weekly to ensure there is fresh bait and not small pieces inside for them to get out. †As long as the bait is still on the rods†the†Protecta Sidekick Rat Bait Station†is designed to prevent non target animals from getting to it. †They may try as most baits have food based attractants but should not be able to pull it out.
