Why use a mattress encasement for bed bug control?
Bed Bug Mattress encasements are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested mattress so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Mattress encasements are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress encasement and washing it in hot water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.
We recommend spraying an infested mattress with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the mattress encasements intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the mattress will be protected from further infestation.

Excellent, High-quality mattress cover!
By Sheree on April 8, 2010We had recently purchased a zippered mattress cover at our local store for allergy relief. It was labeled for allergies and bed bugs. It didn't seem to be vinyl or plastic, but it was very hot and too large for our bed. Every night I was sweating and the extra bulk really bothered us as we tried to sleep. I saw the Protect-A-Bed Mattress Cover you have and decided to try one since it mentioned being breathable. Boy, are we impressed! Not only does it fit nice and snug on our mattress, but it isn't hot at all. We love it and will purchase more for our other beds to help with allergies and keep our mattresses clean. Thanks!

Better Sleep the FIRST Night
By Missy on December 21, 2011
Verified Purchase
We have been battling bed bugs for over six months. With this wonderful mattress cover the first nights' sleep was great! It completely encompassed the mattress with all the irritable critters inside. Now it is just a matter of bombing to get rid of the rest in the furniture. The material is great and can not even tell there is a cover on the mattress. Though for the price, I thought there was a box spring cover included. There was not. But with just the mattress cover the incidents of bug GREATLY reduced, and get better daily.

Fits a thick queen size mattress
By Derek on September 29, 2010I have a 15" mattress and this easily zips around it. Shipping was super fast. I don't feel like I'm sleeping on plastic (which would have been grounds for a return for me), in fact, I don't feel like I'm sleeping on anything at all but my sheets. This is a good buy, period, whether or not you are worried about bed bugs with all the recent news on infestations. It's waterproof, so you can quickly wash up kiddie accidents too (sigh, wish I had this before my niece came to visit)!! Good buy.

We have had several mattress covers before but this one is the easiest BY FAR to put on. It's so soft and I love the terrycloth top. We are thrilled and have the covers on all of our beds, and I would recommend it to anyone. Well worth the money!!!!

Mattress Cover

Thank you so much for this product! Since we put the cover on our mattress we have not been bothered with dust mites, and my allergies have been much better. I thought it might make noise when turning over in bed, but it's quiet and doesn't bother me at all. I was also surprised that it stretched to fit our bed's width. And the price was much more reasonable than another we had priced in a store.

Just what I hoped for
By Dj on April 4, 2013Excellent product! Fit perfectly on our Queen pillow top mattress. We live in an apartment and a couple of neighbors have had problems with bed bugs, thankfully we haven't seen any and I am doing everything possible to prevent rather than have to try to get rid of them!! I am very satisfied with my mattress cover. Once it was on and the bed made back up I can't really tell it's even on there and I am very happy about that as well!

Good cover but the fabric sizing caused allergy

Overall great product - just wish they had not used such harsh chemicals to make it. I broke out on my hands and feet - they were uncovered when it put it on the bed. I broke out badly and quickly Washed it, and it was fine.

This cover is very durable and well made. Material is better quality and thicker than the one it is replacing. I paid less for this cover than my previous inferior quality department store special. Very pleased with this purchase.

great replacement cover for a memory foam mattress
By Brian on January 1, 2013
Verified Purchase
We had a 6-7 year old memory foam mattress on a adjustable frame that needed replacing and this has done the job very well. While not as velvety soft and quite as the original, the fit is great, putting it on was easy, it's almost silent and it stretches enough to seem like a perfect replacement. The zipper was over-stitched right at the beginning and we had to carefully tease out a few stitches in order to open the zipper, but otherwise it really seems well made. I have no opinion about bed bugs and waterproofing, but as a replacement cover, it's great.

This cover is easy to put on and a great fit. The zipper is good quality. It is made of a sturdy fabric, not plastic or slippery, so the mattress stays in place. Worth the price I paid.

Excellent quality, best price on the net!
By Cm on December 20, 2012

I recently purchased two of these to replace the zippered vinyl mattress/box spring covers I'd been using due to the fact that, over time, the vinyl covers would discolor/crack with age. It seemed more cost effective to purchase these for the long term vs replacing the vinyl ones almost annually. My intent is to keep the mattress/box springs clean and dust free, as I don't have a bed bug issue. (And an "ounce of prevention" isn't a bad idea either!) Because they've only been in use for a short time I haven't had the need to launder them yet so I can't review on their long term durability. However, they appear to be of good quality and well made. They go on fairly easily (easier with two people, but manageable for one), the fit is nice and snug (they do stretch!) with no excess material on my 14" deep mattress. (Not the case with the vinyl!) I placed the one covering the box spring terrycloth side down so that I didn't have to be concerned with snags or pulls on the fabric from the bed frame.

QIf the mattress already has bed bugs does Protect-a-bed mattress cover work?
If the mattress already has bed bugs does Protect-a-bed mattress cover work? Will it encase the bed bugs on the mattress so that they do not get to the person to bite them? Will the bedbugs eventually die?
AAny bed bugs you seal up in the Protect-a-bed Bed Bug Mattress Cover cannot escape or bite through the cover, and will eventually die. This means you can save your bed bug infested mattress without throwing it out.
Protect-a-bed Bed Bug Mattress Cover are made of breathable, 100% white terry cotton so they are soft, cool and comfortable to sleep on. May 12, 2010Joanna asked:
QCan you wash your Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Cover?
AYes. The manufacturer states: "Easy to Wash & Use: Machine wash in warm or hot water with another garment such as a towel. Tumble dry on low to medium heat with like garments. Wash before use for best results. Do not bleach (or use bleach alternatives) or dry clean."
June 18, 2010Bruce asked:
QI'm not sure about mattress size, if I get thicker Protect-A-Bed Mattress Cover will it be OK?
AWe cannot accept returns of mattress covers once they have been opened. You should measure the length and the width and height or thickness of the mattress cover before purchasing. You can always call us and tell us the measurements and we will be happy to tell you which one you need.
May 29, 2011Shawna asked:
QCan a mattress encasement be used to cover a boxspring too?
AAbsolutely. Many of our customers purchase the mattress encasement for the box spring also because the mattress encasement is a little sturdier and waterproof.
September 9, 2011Leon from Ny, Ny asked:
QWhat size range (thickness) mattress with the 11" Protect-A-Bed cover accommodate?
AMattress encasements that are 11" deep will fit up to 15" deep mattresses.
September 23, 2010Dennis asked:
QAre the AllerZip Bed Bug queen size mattress covers you sell Terry or Smooth finish?
AWe carry the Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Covers with the terry cloth top.
November 14, 2011Amrita from Santa Clara,ca asked:
QIs it ok to steam the Protect-a-Bed Allerzip mattress cover while it is on the mattress?
Is it ok to use the bed bug control steamer on the Protect-a-Bed Allerzip mattress cover while it is on the mattress?
I do not want to take it out from the mattress to wash it just to make sure that if there are any bed bugs trapped inside the zipped cover they should not escape if I take out the mattress cover.
AWe do not recommend steaming the mattress encasements. You should steam the mattress before placing the encasement on it. Any bedbugs that are left on the mattress after the encasement has been put in place will eventually die from starvation. The Protecta Bed mattress encasements have a special waterproof backing and you will risk blistering the backing if you choose to steam it. Also, the mattress encasements have special bedbug proof zippers which will prevent bedbugs from entering or exiting.
November 28, 2010Madhusudan asked:
QDo you carry a mattress cover that will fit a mattress that is 4 inches in depth?
I am using a queen sized memory foam of 4 inch height, directly on the floor with no mattress. The memory foam doesn’t have bed bugs, but they are crawling onto the cover which I am using in the night time. The pesticide treatment kit which I brought from your site has not eradicated them. Can the Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Cover help me? If so, which size do I need to choose? Do you carry 4 inch depth covers?
AIt is very important to remember that bedbugs do not only hide on beds, but they can hide around the perimeter of the room, in wall voids, under the lip of the carpet, in clothes and in/on other furniture. Adding a mattress encasement to a memory foam mattress that does not have any seams of folds for the bedbugs to hide in, it will not help your problem. You must treat the entire home every 7-10 days until you do not get any bites for 30 days. If you live in an apartment, it is very possible that you are getting re-infested by your neighbors and you would need to contact building management who would need to inspect and treat all infested apartments.
January 29, 2012Gail from Reading,pa asked:
QDo Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Covers protect against fleas getting in the mattress?
AProtect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Covers will encase the mattress completely and will be able to stop just about any insect from actually getting on the mattress.
July 28, 2011Chris asked:
QI have an adjustable bed. Will using it (moving mattress up and down) tear the cover?
AProtect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Covers are actually encasements that zip up and cover the entire mattress which usually makes them unsuitable for adjustable mattresses because of the cables/wires coming from the mattress itself. You can contact Protect-A-Bed, the manufacturer, to see if they have a product that may better fit your needs. 866-297-8836
March 29, 2012Kritter from Ph asked:
QProtect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Cover - QUEEN too large for my 60x75x8 mattress?
The queen size listed here is 60x80x9. However, my mattress is only 60x75x8. Will the 60x80x9 fit?
AThe Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Cover - QUEEN should be just fine for your mattress though it may be a little bit loose. The manufacturer of the mattress cover only makes standard sizes as do most of the other mattress cover manufacturers and your mattress does seem to be either an older mattress or a custom mattress.
