Why use a mattress cover for bed bug control?
Bed Bug Mattress Covers are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested mattress so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Mattress covers are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress cover and washing it in hot water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.

We recommend spraying an infested mattress with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the mattress covers intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the mattress will be protected from further infestation.

Product Features:
BugLock™ 3-sided zipper system and ALLER-ZIP™ seal for complete protection against allergens, dust mites and bed bugs. Bug entry, escape and bite proof.

5 of 5 Stars  Excellent, High-quality mattress cover!
By Sheree on April 8, 2010
We had recently purchased a zippered mattress cover at our local store for allergy relief. It was labeled for allergies and bed bugs. It didn't seem to be vinyl or plastic, but it was very hot and too large for our bed. Every night I was sweating and the extra bulk really bothered us as we tried to sleep. I saw the Protect-a-bed mattress cover you have and decided to try one since it mentioned being breathable. Boy, are we impressed! Not only does it fit nice and snug on our mattress, but it isn't hot at all. We love it and will purchase more for our other beds to help with allergies and keep our mattresses clean. Thanks!

4 of 5 Stars  Nice and sturdy
By JD on June 11, 2010
I had another mattress cover on my bed, from Allergy Control Products, that we paid a lot more for but that was made of thinner material that ended up ripping. This cover is nice and sturdy and has a nice, soft, towel-like covering on top for spills, etc. on the top. The better materials are, I'm guessing, the reason why it costs $30 more than a similarly priced cover at Wal-Mart. This website's price was excellent and the service was very good--I ordered the wrong thing by mistake, and they fixed it before it shipped.

I'm only had my mattress cover for one month--but I haven't seen any bedbugs since I've put it on . The cover is real easy to put the mattress and box springs.

It's really comfy and feels great, especially after the first wash.  I get a good night's sleep and feel really well-rested in the morning!

4 of 5 Stars  Peace of mind
By CR on August 6, 2010
I bought the mattress cover and pillow cases after I returned from staying in a "rustic" cottage for 2 weeks where I suspected I'd had bed bugs. I was feeling itchy all over, had a suspicious bite (tick maybe?). Anyway, I put these products on my bed and I've stopped feeling itchy (I also sprayed my bed with the Steri-fab and another organic sprary). The mattress cover was pretty easy to put on by myself, with a little advance thinking. The pillowcases actually give my pillows a bit of "oomph" with the trapped air. All in all, I am happy with my purchase.

Should I wash my Protect-a-bed mattress cover before use?
Hello, I am ordering two covers (one for box spring) as I do not have an infestation but do not want one. I was wondering why it is recommended to wash the covers prior to use for best results? What does "best results" mean? I have to go to a laundromat and of course worry that I'll somehow bring something home with me, so having to wash the covers just increases that chance. Thanks for answers and any advice. Also, if you know whether the SleepTite EPA exempt spray is effective, could you let me know? Thank you so much.

A The Bed Bug Mattress Covers do not have to be washed before you use them.  90% of our customers do not wash them before they place them on their beds.  Washing the covers does soften them a little bit since when you first take them out of their packaging they can be a little rough to the touch.  This is usually never an issue though once it is on your bed and you have a sheet over it.  Almost all of our office staff has a cover on their bed at home and none of us have washed it before initial use.  I am not familiar with SleepTite EPA exempt spray because we only sell professional products.  It seems that it is similar though to our Steri-Fab spray, which kills all stages of bed bugs, even the eggs.
