Why use a box spring encasement for bed bug control?
Bed Bug boxspring encasements and mattress encasements are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested boxspring so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Boxspring encasements and mattress encasements are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress encasement and washing it in warm water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.
We recommend spraying an infested boxspring with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the encasement intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the box spring will be protected from further infestation.

For whatever reason the box spring covers are not made with the same material as the mattress covers. The mattress covers work. The bed bugs have nothing to do with it. But the box spring cover is made of something very much like burlap, and the bugs can still live on it. We haven't determined whether or not they can get out. It does appear as though there are many trapped in there. However, if you cannot make sure that all the bed bugs are in there, it is pointless, because any left out of it, in the carpets or what not will burrow in and attach themselves to this cover. My advice is to purchase the mattress cover for both the box spring and the mattress since they are usually the same exact size.

Unfortunately the Box Spring Covers are extremely cheap and are definitely not worth the money.

nice and easy to use cover
By Kathy in Park Ridge, Il on 04/28/2012
We bought this cover for a bed that had a very old cover on it. My husband and I had no problems covering the box spring with this cover. Great price and worth it to keep the box spring protected from dust and any other strange things.

QSince customer reviews say the box spring cover rips easily, can the mattress cover be used on the box spring?
AYes, the mattress covers can be used on the box springs. The box springs can rip when used on the metal bed frames, and you do not take time to protect the edges of the frame where it rubs up against the box spring. As long as you place foam or some type of protection near the sharp metal edges of the bed frame, you will be fine.
QIs there a discount for buying both the Protect-A-Bed Box Spring Cover and a Protect-A-Bed Mattress Cover? Do you have pillow covers?
AThere is not a specific discount for a Protect-A-Bed Box Spring Cover and Protect-A-Bed Mattress Cover bought at the same time, but we always have a Low Price Guarantee and Free Shipping on every order. We do also carry Protect-A-Bed Pillow Covers, just type 'pillow covers' in our Search Box in the top left on every page of our website.
