Why use a box spring ecnasement for bed bug control?
Bed Bug boxspring encasements and mattress encasements are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested boxspring so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Boxspring encasements and mattress encasements are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress encasement and washing it in warm water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.
We recommend spraying an infested boxspring with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the encasement intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the box spring will be protected from further infestation.

Protect-A-Bed Box Spring
By Monique in New York City on 08/02/2010
These are a must for box springs and also for mattresses. We had a bed bug problem and after spraying we put these on and haven't had a problem in the bed area since, this is a great product and a must if you live in New York City. Easily fit the box spring, we actually have 2 on the box spring since we have cats and they scratch at the bed, this way if they break through the first one we still have protection.

We had a bed bug infestation and we treated and bought the box spring encasement and the mattress protector. My main problem with the product is that it gets holes in it too easily which obviously makes the product useless. Good product but needs to be way stronger.

Review Protect-A-Bed Box Spring Cover
By Bee in Washington State on 09/08/2011
nice overall, this non-stretching model does tear very easily though. It is fairly quiet. It definitely needs felt or soft thick foam underneath it so that it won't move around and tear. I wish I would have bought one w/fabric that stretches. It does do its job though, for sure!!!

This has been a god send! I had an infestation so bad that I was thinking about moving. I tried everything from expensive sprays to vacuum treatments and nothing worked. I bought the covers as a last resort and it has sealed those disgusting things where they can't escape. My bites have healed up and I am feeling better about wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts again. I wish I knew about this before. Great product!

looks good and seal well. Its durability and performance can only be documented after a long period of use. For now no real evaluation can be made.
BOX NA QUEEN ENCASEMENTS
By Donna in social circle georgia on 05/17/2016
THE ENCASEMENT WAS THE RIGHT SIZE AND SOFT TO TOUVH BUT THE PLASTIC ZIPPER AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME SPLIT OPEN LEAVING THE MATTRESS COMPROMISED. I WOULD SUGGEST A BETTER TYPE OF ZIPPER.

Appears to be of good quality. Easy to install and fair price. Should not allow bed bugs to escape if in box springs.

Ask a Question
QCan I buy two box spring covers and use one for my actual mattress?
ATechnically you could, but the box spring cover is made from a completely different material and is not meant for use on the mattress. Box spring covers are not water-proof or bite proof and the material is not quite as durable as the mattress cover. We would not recommend using abox spring cover on a mattress.
QWill the standard Queen box spring encasement work for my 5 1/2 inch box spring?
Is there any other product that would be more snug for the box spring?
AProtect-A-Bed does not make the 1/2 size box spring cover as there has not been a great demand for them. We did speak to one of the Protect-A-Bed representatives, and they did assure us that the standard Queen box spring encasement would work just fine.
QCan I put a fitted sheet over my box spring encasement to protect it?
AYou can put a sheet over the box spring cover, but it may make it harder to inspect the box spring. We recommend just putting felt strips (or pieces of duct tape) over the metal railings to protect the box spring cover from any sharp edges.

QWhat material is the bed bug box spring encasement made from?
AThe Protect-A-Bed Box springs covers are made of 100% polyester. The mattress encasements are a cotton/polyester blend.
QMy box spring is 10" high x 60 x 80. Will the Queen size Protect-A-Bed Box spring cover fit?
AYes, the Protect-A-Bed box spring covers are made to stretch and will fit a 10" high box spring. You should follow the instructions and use two people to pull the cover onto the box spring evenly to prevent tearing.
08/07/2013 Ame from College Park,ga.
QCan you buy the Protect-A-Bed mattress or box spring covers at local stores?
AWe apologize but we do not know of any local stores that carry the same products that we do so we can not say that they are available.
QWhat material is the Protect-A-Bed Box Spring encasement made of?
I do not want to tear it on my metal frame. I am also wondering if the Climb Up Interceptors would stop bedbugs from crawling up my bed?
AThe Protect-A-Bed Box Spring is bed bug proof and is made from a polyester/cotton blend. The box spring encasements come with pads to place on the corners and rough edges of the metal frame to help prevent tearing. You can also add additional foam or other materials in the shelf of the metal frame where the box spring fits to help prevent any tears. We recommend that you have someone else help you place this on the box spring to prevent tears. The Climb-Up Interceptors work with most beds with normal feet or wheels on the bottom of the supports and will trap bedbugs that try to crawl up the legs of the bed.

QWhat type of zipper covers do the Protect-A-Bed covers have?
AProtect-A-Bed mattress encasements feature a patented BugLock® three-sided zipper and innovative Secure Seal® which completely locks the encasement in place. The AllerZip® bed bug mattress cover is completely bed bug escape and entry proof. With an innovative Allergen Flap, it provides superior allergy protection by preventing any allergens from entering or exiting through the zipper. Double-stitched seams also add a further level of protection around the entire encasement. The soft smooth surface is waterproof and stainproof, featuring the innovative Miracle Membrane® with the Total Heat Transference Formula, Liquids and stains stay out, yet the state-of-the-art AllerZip bed bug cover remains breathable and comfortable.
