    Q
Is it safe to use Roundup Promax on entire lawn? Would it kill the grass?
    A
Roundup Pro Max contains glyphosate which is a non-selective herbicide. Non-selective herbicides will kill just about any vegetation that they are sprayed on including grass. We do carry a full line of selective herbicides that can be safely sprayed on certain lawns and will only kill listed weeds. Try entering the name of the weed you are trying to eliminate in the search on our website. A selection of products should come up. You can click on each product and read the description and also the product label to see if the product will fit your needs. You can also contact your local cooperative extension office and request to speak to the master gardener on staff. The master gardener can make product recommendations for you based on the type of grass you have and the type of weeds you are trying to eliminate.

    Q
Are there any small animal safety precautions after spraying lawn with RoundUp?
    A
RoundUp Pro Max like most of our products is very safe to use around pets.  The general rule of thumb is to have your pets inside or in another part of the yard while you are applying the product.  Once the product has had adequate time to dry, usually 45 minutes to an hour, it is perfectly safe to have your pets back into the yard.

    Q
Will Roundup Pro Max kill philodendron vines? Does it contain a surfactant?
Tried regular Roundup, and it had no effect. I need something stronger to clear out these tough to kill plants from my woods.
    A
Round Up Pro Max can be used to get rid of philodendron vines. You should cut back the vines and apply the product at the strongest usage rate to the freshly cut vines for best results. Round Up Pro Max does contain a surfactant so an additional surfactant is not needed.

    Q
Shelf life and temperature? How to use on tree stump after cut 1 year ago?
What is the shelf life and how to store? How to use after on tree stump from preventing newly Sprouts from a peach tree?
    A
Roundup Pro Max works best on actively growing vegetation. According to the product label "Apply a 50- to 100-percent solution of this product to the freshly cut surface immediately after cutting. Delays in application may result in reduced performance." Because of these label recommendations Roundup Pro Max may not be suitable for your needs. We do carry Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer which is labeled to get rid of stumps and also to stop stumps from sprouting. This product will last for about 3 years from the date of purchase and should be stored out of extreme temperatures and kept away from direct sunlight.

    Q
Can you spray Roundup Pro Max around the base of fruit trees to control weeds and not harm the tree ?
    A

Roundup Pro Max does not leach into the soil so it will not be taken up into the root system. Be sure to spot treat on a day that is not quite windy. This way you minimize the risk of the Roundup Pro Max landing on the tree trunk.

  • Asked by John from Niceville, Fl

    Q
I'm looking for a strong weed killer to kill suckers around my trees.
    A
It is quite hard to treat sucker trees with out harming the root system of the tree they are attached. The idea is that if you apply a herbicide to the sucker, it will tranfer to the tree root causing harm. Hear are few steps you can take to help discourage suckers:

1.Grasp one of the suckers down low, near the ground. pull hard, with a twisting motion, pulling up and away from the base at the same time.

2.Clip individual suckers off at or below ground level with pruning shears if you can’t remove the suckers by pulling.

3.Mow areas with large numbers of suckers, cutting them off as close to the ground as possible.

4.Dig down to the roots in any spots that seem to have a large concentration of suckers popping up, if you can get to them.Check the roots to see if most of the suckers come from a single section. If so, cut that part of the root off of the tree, pull it up and get rid of it.

    5. Cover any shallow roots with a layer of mulch about 2 inches thick, enough to discourage the suckers without doing any harm to your tree. If the mulch settles or washes away over time, replace it with a new layer.

You can also contact your Local Cooperative Extension Office and speak with the Master Gardener in your area.

    Q
We live in the woods & want to kill the brush/weeds but NOT the trees? Would this work for our application?
    A
Roundup works great as a spot treatment. Crossbow is known to be a great product to kill brush and other unwanted woody plants. You should not spray if it is windy and be careful that over spray does not get on the desirable trees.

    Q
    Roundup Pro Max
Is Roundup effective on established crabgrass? I want to stop it before it gets too out of control.
    A

Roundup Pro Max will kill just about anything that it is applied to so it will kill crabgrass but will also kill your lawn if that is where you are spraying it.

Our most popular crabgrass product is Drive XLR8. Drive XLR8 Herbicide is the latest technology in providing unsurpassed post-emergent crabgrass control. Drive XLR8 is a post emergent selective herbicide that is labeled for crabgrass as well many other troublesome weeds. Not for use on St Augustine grass.  Please refer to the product label to ensure your grass type is tolerant to the Drive

    Q
How much Roundup Pro Max will i need to kill a 3.5 acre field filled with grasses and weeds?
Should i spray now or in spring before soybean planting?
    A
You will need two 1.67 gallon jugs of Roundup Pro Max to kill all vegetation on 3.5 acres. Simply mix 2 oz of RoundUp Pro Max per gallon of water for most applications. Roundup Pro Max does not provide long term control so we would recommend treating two weeks prior to planting.

    Q
Is Roundup Pro Max safe for zoysia lawn to kill sand spurs?
    A

Roundup Pro Max is non selective herbicide that will kill just about anything that it is applied to, including sand spurs and your zoysia grass.   Sandburs are easier to prevent than to try to get rid of once they have invaded your yard.  To prevent sandburs you should apply something like Prodiamine as a pre-emergent in the late fall.

  • Asked by Nancy

    Q
Should I use Roundup Pro Max or Quick Pro?
I'm trying to decide on Pro Max or Quick Pro instead of the usual roundup concentrate. We have mostly wild grasses(weeds) in our yard & some star thistle has crept in. We have oak trees to avoid & in our landscaped areas, lots of plants. Are both of these dangerous if my husband over sprays? We are killing grasses & not so much woody plants.
    A
We recommend that you contact your local master gardener at the local cooperative extension office in your area. Our expertise is structural pests and we are not yet knowledgeable enough about plants to give proper advice on which herbicides will damage which plants. We started carrying herbicides due to popular customer demand and we are doing our best to learn more about them before we can offer advice on them.

  • Asked by Dennis from Wellton, Az
    06/16/2017
    Q
Is Roundup Pro Max absorbed by the soil and lingering, or is it just in the leaves and roots?
Can you grow vegetables into soil the following year?
    A

RoundUp Pro Max contains glyphosate, which is absorbed systemically into the treated plants only. It does not move through the soil to other plants, and it is not absorbed from the roots into neighboring plants. Since this product is not labeled expressly for us around edible plantings, it should be safe to plant vegetables after a year. You could also use Avenger Herbicide and replant as soon as 2 weeks after application. The delay is just to be sure the target plants have had time to be killed before you till any roots that may still be viable.
