    How is Sahara DG applied?
    A
Sahara is a dispersible granule that needs to be mixed with water and a surfactant and then applied as a spray solution. For spot or crack and crevice treatments you will need to mix 0.5 lb- 1.0 lb with one gallon of water + 1/3 of an ounce of surfactant. Q
What is the best time of year to spray Sahara? Application would be cracks in asphalt.
    A
According to page 3 of the Sahara DG Herbicide product label "For annual weed control Sahara may be applied either preemergence or postemergence to the weeds; however, a late preemergence to early post emergence is the best method of choice in most situations. For perennial weed control Sahara is only effective when applied postemergence and will not control perennial weeds that are not emerged at the time of the application".

    Q
How long does Sahara DG Herbicide take to be rainproof?
    A

Sahara DG Herbicide should not be applied on a day that is raining or windy. This could cause movement and drift and, ultimately, damage to desirable plants. Please see page 4 of the product label for variations in rates according to the annual rainfall in your area, and be sure to follow all label directions for best results.

    Q
Will Sahara DG kill Phyllostachys or Running Bamboo
I'm trying to eradicate a bamboo invasion it is Pyllostachys aurea or Golden Bamboo, will this product work and if so is there any special technique to use?
    A
Sahara DG is only labeled to kill Japanese Bamboo per the product label.   You can use Round Up QuickPro at the highest listed usage rate to help eliminate bamboo. You will be required to cut the bamboo down to a short stump and then apply the Round Up QuickPro. It can take several applications to achieve the desired results

    A

Sahara DG Herbicide is a bare ground herbicide which provides you with both pre- and post-emergent control of any and all vegetation for at least a full year. Results will vary with area, soil types, application and environment. It would not be advisable to plant anything in an area where Sahara has been applied for at least one year.

  • Asked by Will from Gso, Nc
    05/27/2015
    Q
How long do I need to wait after rainfall and how many clear days of no rain after application?
I'm spraying large gravel parking lots with Sahara DG. Our area has a fair amount of rainfall and I'm wondering if I can apply following rain with the ground moist and in watching the weather how long until do I need to look for clear days after application.
    A
The main thing to remember when using Sahara DG Herbicide is that if there are consistently heavy rain falls, that the product could possibly cause run off and get to are that are not the target. Since it does rain a lot in your area, be sure to use the higher rate of Sahara DG so that you can get the results you would like. We would recommend applying it when the ground is not saturated so that it will penetrate into the soil and ensure that it eliminates all the weeds. It can be applied when the soil is damp.

  • Asked by Mike from Phoenix, Az
    01/02/2014
    Q
What is the recommended product to kill weeds in AZ as well as keep them from coming back?
I was looking to apply a pre-emergent/weed killer product to my property to kill existing weeds and prevent new ones from cropping up (usually after a rainfall). My neighbors have a service come over once a year to apply something to their property and I'd like to find a good product that I can apply myself. The properties are desert landscaped with rocks and I have the occasional tree/bush as well as some cactus. I have dogs that run in the backyard and get pickers in their feet as a result of one specific type of weed so I want to keep them from sprouting as well as apply a product that is dog safe once it dries.
    A
One of our most popular products for weed control in the AZ region is Weed Impede. Depending on what type of weeds you are treating for you would mix 1.5 oz -3 oz per 1,000 sq ft. Please call us at 866-581-7378 with any questions.

  • Asked by Terry from Champaign, Illinois
    06/20/2014
    Q
    Rain after Sahara application?
I recently applied Sahara to some fencelines. About 6 hours later we had an unexpected thunderstorm. Will the Sahara still be effective or will I need to reapply?
    A
Sahara DG Herbicide should be watered in 1 inch by irrigation or rainfall after application so the rain shouldn't effect the product if it was too much and it was applied based on your annual rainfall amounts as directed on the product label.  The concern is that the rain could have caused runoff into other areas that you did not want Sahara to effect and may sterlize the surrounding soil.

  • Asked by Chad from Cut Off, La
    08/02/2018
    Q
Can Sahara DG Herbicide be use on a baseball all dirt infield?
How safe is it to use on the field where kids play ball? Any precautions needed in order to spray it with a electric pump sprayer?
    A

Sahara DG Herbicide could be used and as long as you keep children out of the area while you treat and until the product has had time to completely dry it is safe for people to return and resume normal activity. Typically a few hours is enough time to allow the area to dry.  That being said, this product can leach into surrounding areas so care should be taken to avoid applying in areas where runoff to desirable turf can occur.

  • Asked by Steve from Decatur, Illinois
    05/07/2013
    Q
Is a special application license required to apply Sahara DG Herbicide?
    A
Normally as long as you are not using the product on a property other than your own, and are not doing it for profit a license is not needed. However, we are not sure of all regulations in every state and county and we recommend contacting your local Department of Agriculture for your states restrictions. Also, we highly recommended contacting the manufacturer before using this product as usage should be used with extreme caution due to possible leaching in the soil. You can reach BASF at 1-800-526-1072.

    Q
Will Sahara DG Herbicide kill Bamboo?
    A

Unfortunately, Sahara DG Herbicide has been discontinued by the manufacturer.  If you are looking to target Bamboo we would suggest cutting the shoots low to the ground and using undiluted Crossbow or RoundUp on the cut stumps.
