ScareCrow motion-activated sprinkler animal deterrent keeps common animal intruders like cats, dogs, deer, heron, raccoons, and more out of your lawn and garden. The ScareCrow motion sensor sprinkler is a very effective option that does not use chemicals or ugly netting. Using just 2-3 cups of water per burst the ScareCrow motion detector sprinkler animal deterrent startles animals and scares them away. Working for as long as six months on just one, nine-volt battery the ScareCrow motion activated sprinkler protects up to 1,200 sq. ft. day and night. If you need to cover a larger area you can link several scarecrows together.

Can I adjust the sensitivity of the ScareCrow?
Yes, you can adjust the sensitivity with the simple twist of a knob.
Can I hook the ScareCrow up to my in-ground irrigation system?
No, the ScareCrow needs line pressure at all times. An irrigation system pipeline only pressurizes when the system is sprinkling your lawn. You can however, set up a separate in-ground irrigation feed system to your ScareCrow that is on all the time. As PVC pipe is not as flexible as a garden hose and therefore less able to absorb the pressure flux of a ScareCrow activation, Contech recommends installing a hammer arrester at the point where the ScareCrow is affixed to the in ground plumbing.
Can I switch the ScareCrow off?
Yes. There are two ways to switch off the ScareCrow: either set the sensitivity knob to zero, or shut off the water supply. Please note that if you shut the water off, the unit will still sense and activate, but will not spray water. For a heavy traffic area, turning the sensitivity knob to zero is the best option.
Can the ScareCrow be used in the winter?
No. Bring it in when there is risk of freezing. Freezing water may damage the valve in the ScareCrow.
Does the ScareCrow work at night?
Yes. The ScareCrow works during the day and at night because it uses an infrared sensor.
How long will the ScareCrow operate before needing a new battery?
Results vary from a few weeks to a year depending upon how often people, pets or the wind trigger the unit. The average is between four and six months. The ScareCrow will typically fire approximately 3000 times from a single battery.
How much water pressure is needed?
30 to 80 P.S.I. If your water pressure is greater than 80 P.S.I., Contech recommends installing a pressure reducer (available at hardware and irrigation supply stores) at the hose bib.
I'm not sure I like the look of the ScareCrow. Can I get it in plain black?
Yes, the ScareCrow is delivered with the decals packaged separately – you may choose to apply the 'beak and eyes' design, or leave them off.

Keeps the dogs out
By Christopher in Star, Idaho on 04/01/2013
Great product and great service. My dogs hate these things so they do a great job of keeping them out of my vegetable garden. Be careful though. My wife and grandmother both got sprayed within two days. Service is terrific if you have an issue too.

NO MORE CAT POOP
By Denny in Everett, WA on 04/25/2013
Tried everything last year. Netting, amonia, pepper, and all the stuff recomended on the internet. This year I was ready to put up a electric wire system. About $100 and a lot of time and work. Saw the ScareCrow on line and tried it on my 4x40' above ground garden. It took about 10 minutes to install. It's been in place about three weeks, and NOT ONE cat poop pile. All that fresh soil must drive them nuts. They stay clear. Last year it was a daily chore to clean up after them. VERY HAPPY..WORKS GREAT !!

We have had one for about a year and it works great. I detects movement about 30 feet and our water pressure lets it spray about that far. We bought another one to extend our protection even farther. Donna & Frank

Overall, it appears a little cheaply made, but it works well. So far it has kept the grandkids out of the garden, scared at least a couple of deer away and shot me directly in the face at point black range when I forgot it was on, O yeh, I also got the neighbor on his riding lawnmower. Now, Let's see if it holds up.

Too early to tell
By Barry in Riverview, Florida on 04/09/2013
I'm still trying to work with the unit. I have some kind of varmint digging up my garden. The scarecrow didn't deter whatever it is. I think it may be Armadillos, since I have seen them in the yard a lot. I moved the scarecrow closer to the garden, hoping this would help. I also changed the battery as it has already discharged after 2 weeks. If this doesn't work, I'm thinking about returning it.

Like other reviews said, have to make sure connections don't leak but seems to be fine and so far haven't even sprayed myself (did get the front window though)
Didn't work, ordered 2 neither worked.

Love this to keep my chickens off my lanai. Sensor is tricky but this is a God send product for me since I let the Hens free range. I think a Battery should be included with the purchase.

We have an incredible deer problem in our residential area; they dine on everything we plant, and drop their babies at our front door while the Mother lays in our gardens, ruins the plants and chomps on whatever catches her eye. Not anymore! With the ScareCrow (we have two and I'm thinking about ordering another) the deer take off running. This a beautiful sight.

Mechanical ScareCrow - pretty darn good!
By Karen in Brentwood, TN on 04/27/2016
This mechanical scare-crow is pretty darn good! It's a little tricky to get set up properly and it leaks just a bit. The part are all plastic - the instructions actually tell you not to tighten the fittings too tightly so that you will not crack or strip them. Rock and hard place really - if they are too loose they leak and won't provide a closed, pressurized system. Too tight and it leaks anyway as a result of being compromised and possibly ruined. It is also a bit top-heavy and the ground stake needs to be twice as long to compensate for this - it isn't so you may need an anchor of some kind. We slipped the hose between rocks which surround our garden - this served to stabilize the crow a bit. Before that it fell over any time it activated - sudden burst of water was enough to knock it over. I actually think a better solution would be to just replace the stake with one that is longer. I'm considering a run to Home Depot for that. Bottom line - after you get it set up and ready it works. It's a hoot to watch the cats get chased out of the garden by the burst of water and I personally like the fact that it doesn't harm the critters and varmints. :)

I love these
By Tracey in Big Spring, TX on 04/21/2015
I live in the country and have free-range chickens. They have torn up my front yard, and didn't want to fence in the entire yard. These work perfect for keeping the chickens out of the yard and garden, and I don't have to worry about putting up another fence. Great product.

Great while they last.
By Arnie in Gates Oregon on 04/19/2015
Would give this product a 5 star review if they lasted more than a season. This is the fourth ScareCrow we have bought so far. They work wonderful and can be adjusted for distance and sensitivity. I use two in the garden and they keep the deer out. Problem is only one of the four has lasted more than a year. I remove the battery when I put them up for the winter and store them inside out of the weather. In the spring when I take them out of storage they inevitably fail. I've reset them as instructed and even put brand new batteries in them. I'm a retired engineer so I pride my self on being able to repair most things. Problem with these is, short of replacing the motion sensor nothing can be done. Yes I've adjusted water pressure to numerous psi.

A The Scarecrow can detect large animals up to 30 ft away and very small animals up to 10 ft away. The detection range depends on the type of animal detecting. QWhat is your return policy? Is it covered by a warranty?
Can I return it if doesn't meet my needs? I'm trying to keep my dogs out of my flower garden, where they lay in the mulch and damage the flowers. But it's a small area (next to walkway and front porch) and I'm not sure this is the answer.
AWe only allow returns on unused merchandise. If the product has been used it is no longer in retail condition and we cannot accept the return. We recommend that you go to the Scarecrow product page and scroll down to the video to see the product in action before you purchase it to see if it might work for your needs. There is a 2 year manufacturers warranty on the Scarecrow against any type of manufacturer defect "Contech Enterprises warrants to the original purchase of its products that the product will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years. This warranty does not cover damage caused by or attributable to acts of God, abuse, misuse, improper maintenance, or damage caused in transportation."

QIs the ScareCrow Sprinkler effective on chipmunks?
I have chipmunks that invade my 8 x 12 garden to eat the ripe tomatoes. I need to repel them.
AYes the Scarcrow Animal Deterrant can be used on smaller animals such as chipmunks and rabbits. However, keep in mind that if they are getting to a food source on your property the repellant may or may not work everytime if getting wet is less important to the chipmunk than getting to the tomato. You may need to use Chipmunk Traps to try and eliminate the population from your yard.

Can you tell me why this unit goes off every few minutes and nothing is in the yard? No cars are going down the street, no birds and no wind. I have changed the battery twice within a few weeks.
AWe would recommend adjusting the sensitity knob on your ScareCrow Sprinkler. Set the sensitivity knob high enough to see to target animal when it is within reach of the 10 meter (35 foot) water spray, but not beyond that point. It is not beneficial to sense animals or moving objects outside the area you wish to protect. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

QYou state it works on birds wanna tell me how to set it. I've tried every way.
It doesn't even pick up large pigeons. So at what distance? What sensitivity ?
APer the product manual, the Scarecrow Sprinkler should be able to detect small animals up to 20 ft. away on the sensitivity level 7-9. It does also state that some animals may not be seen at that sight. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
