    Q
Is Sevin Insecticide Granules harmful to dogs and cats?
    A

Sevin Granules are pet safe when used as directed on the label. After spreading the granules across your lawn they would need to be watered in to activate the ingredients. Once they have been watered in and the water dries, pets and people are can return to the area safely. Normally a safe time frame to wait after watering is 1-2 hours.

    Q
What is setting for a Scotts Standard broadcast spreader using Sevin Insecticide Granules?
    for European Cranefly.
    A

The Sevin Insecticide Granules label calls for 3 to 7 pounds per 1000 square feet.  If your spreader settings go from 1 to 10 (1 letting out the least and 10 letting out the most) you typically want to be around a 3 setting.  If your spreader goes from 1 to 20, you should probably be around a 6 or 7 setting.  The goal is to just run out of product when you are done walking the 1000 square feet.  One person may walk faster than someone else, so they may place It on a higher setting than someone that walks slower.

Almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 4 ounces of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the extinguish in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet.

  • Asked by Wanita from Portland, Oregon
    09/12/2014
    Q
Do I water the Sevin Insecticide Granules in?
    A
Watering the Sevin granules in is what activates the granules. If it is going to rain close to the time you are applying the granules that will be fine too. Failure to water in the granules can lead to treatment failure because the chemical cannot be released from the granule and will not be available to the pests.

  • Asked by Pilar from Coppell, Tx

    Q
Is Sevin the best product to kill chiggers? I have children and pets.
    A

Sevin Concentrate is labeled for chiggers. It will only kill the ones that are present during the application. In order to gain control, they must be contacted with the Sevin to have any effectiveness. We do carry Onslaught Insecticide that offers a residual after it is applied and dried for 30 days. Treatments for chiggers should begin in April/May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. Both Sevin and Onslaught are safe when dried. Keep the children and pets out of the area during the application until the surfaces are completely dry and then they can return.

    Q
Will Sevin Insecticide Granules kill earthworms?
I don't want to! I just want to kill ticks and other pests.
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules are not labeled to killl earthworms.  There are no products on the market in the USA that are labeled for earthworms as they are largely beneficial creatures. Most insecticides will not get deep enough into the soil to affect worms.

    Q
Will Sevin Insecticide Granules kill cockroaches?
According to one of your previous answers, you mentioned that the Sevin Granules product label does not list cockroaches. However, after some research I noted that the active ingredient Carbaryl does kill cockroaches? I am bit confused.
    A
Sevin Insecticide Granules are not specifically labeled for cockroach eradication. In the previous question, the inquiry was from someone wanting to apply it in a garage. The Sevin Granules have to be watered in and are not labeled for this application. You correct that Sevin Concentrate is labeled for cockroach outdoor applications and it does contain the active ingredient carbaryl.

    Q
We have tried several products that were guaranteed to kill the ants and did not. Will Sevin Insecticide Granules do the trick ?
Our yard is full of ants. Please point us in the right direction.
    A
Sevin Insecticide Granules will work to eliminate ants that come into contact with treated areas. Most of the time when folks indicate they have tried several products for ant control with no success the problem usually can be traced back to the types of products they have been trying. We recommend that you select a product that can be transferred back to the colony instead of a product that is effective only on the ants that touch treated surfaces. Ant baits are always a good choice. We recommend you offer both a granular bait and a liquid bait to suit the feeding needs of different species of ants. You can apply the baits in Ant No More Bait Stations so that the bait will stay fresh for a long time. The ants will enter the bait station and pick up the bait that suits them and carry it back to the colony and share it with the other ants. Baiting will wipe out the entire colony rather than just the foragers that are usually killed by topical applications of insecticide.

    Q
I applied Sevin Granules and now have grubs all over my lawn surface
I applied Sevin Granules two days ago. My lawn is now covered with grubs that are still living. Is the Sevin working/ Are the grubs dying or just surfacing to escape the Sevin?
    A
It does take time for the grubs to die because they need to ingest Sevin Insecticide Granules or come in contact with it. Depending on how healthy the pest is, how mature it is in its life cycle (the more mature the harder to kill) and how much time it spends on the surface thats been treated will also depend on how quickly the pest is eliminated. Also, make sure the Sevin Insecticide Granules were watered in to activate them.

    Q
I'm tired of spending a fortune on Frontline Plus. Will Sevin Insecticide Granules make my yard safe for our two dogs?
They have both contracted Lyme disease in the last two years.
    A
Sevin Insecticide Granules will definitely help you reduce or eliminate the fleas and ticks in your yard. Dogs should still be on a preventative though because fleas and ticks may wind up in a small untreated area or fleas or ticks may have just dropped off of another animal and may not have had time to receive a lethal dose of insecticide before coming into contact with your dogs.

    Q
How long does it take for Sevin Granuels to dissolve?
I used a spreader to cover my back yard with a bag of Sevin Granuels(for fleas, ticks, etc) 3 days ago and saturated it with water very well. I still see the granuels and I thought they would break about or dissolve in water at least. I'm little concern since my puppy loves to explore my yard and my yard is dry from the florida sun. Do I need to spray more water or let it be and is my pet safe. Going on day 4.
    A
Sevin Insecticide Granules should dissolve with good amounts of water. Even a good rain should help. You may want to try watering it again.

    Q
What does the spreader have to be set at if it is a Vigoro 4300
    A

Unfortunately we are not exactly sure what setting to place the spreader on, but typically there is not a specific setting since it all depends on how fast you walk, etc…

The label calls for 3 to 7 pounds per 1000 square feet.

I hope this adequately answers your questions.  If you still have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us.

    Q
If dogs consume grubs from a lawn treated with Sevin Insecticide Granules (once they surface), is there a potential for harm to the dogs?
    A

No, Sevin Insecticide Granules have a very short half life so this should not harm your pet. Once the grubs consume the product, it is broken down very quickly within the pest so if a dog consumed them, they would not have much of the active ingredient in them still. Be sure to keep your pet out of the area until after the granules have been watered in and the area has dried.
