SpeedZone Herbicide - gallon

SpeedZone Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate contains the same percentages of active ingredient as the larger SpeedZone Red gallon size and 2.5 gallon size.

Speedzone is an excellent selective post-emergent herbicide with superior cool-weather performance and can be used on established cool and warm-season grasses for common and troublesome weeds in turf-grass such as spurge, pennywort, dandelion, and white clover. Evidence of injury can be seen within hours of application, and plants can die in 7 to 14 days. Safe to apply on Kentucky bluegrass, annual bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, tall fescue, red or fineleaf fescue, creeping and colonial bentgrass (excluding golf greens), and mixtures of cool-season species in noncropland (Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, smooth bromegrass, and orchardgrass). Uses include institutional, ornamental, and residential sites, sod production, and noncropland (rights-of-way, roadsides, medians, airports, and military installations). Spray solution must be above pH 5 and below pH 8.

HOW TO APPLY:

FOR ORTHO HOSE-END SPRAYERS FOR COOL-SEASON TURFGRASS

  • For Ortho Dial’N Spray Hose-End Sprayer or Gilmour Dial-A-Mix Lawn and Garden Sprayer:
  • SET THE DIAL: Set dial on 3 tsp. (1 Tbs.) per gallon.
  • FILL: Determine (Measure) the lawn area to be sprayed. Calculate square feet by multiplying length by width. The application rate for this product is 1.4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. of lawn. Add an adequate amount of herbicide to the spray bottle to treat the total lawn area.
  • SPRAY: Spray evenly over the lawn.

Example: Measure 4.0 fl. oz. (8 Tbs.) into sprayer jar. Do not add water. Set dial on 3 teaspoons (tsp.) and spray uniformly on 3,000 sq. ft. of lawn. The maximum application rate to turf is 0.8 pound 2,4-D acid equivalent per acre per application per site. The maximum number of broadcast applications per treatment site is 2 per year.

SPOT TREATMENTS FOR COOL-SEASON TURFGRASS

  • For Hand-Operated Sprayers: For cool-season turfgrass, mix 1.0 fl. oz. of SPEED-ZONE Lawn Weed Killer per 1.0 gallon of water for treatment of approximately 1,000 sq. ft. of turfgrass. Apply any time the emerged broadleaf weeds are susceptible.

Caution: Do not apply SpeedZone Herbicide to bentgrass greens, carpetgrass, dichondra, legumes, and lawns with desirable clovers. Do not apply to new grass seedlings until after the second mowing. Delay applying SpeedZone for 3 to 4 wk on newly sodded, sprigged, or plugged areas. Do not irrigate turfgrass within 24 hr after application. Delay mowing 1 to 2 days before and after application. Treated areas may be reseeded 2 wk after application. Do not apply when air exceeds 90°F. Do not apply to any body of water, wetlands, irrigation ditch banks, or shorelines.

By Travis in Lenoir NC on 05/06/2011

Used and most of the weeds in my lawn were dead the next evening. It took just a couple days on the clover, but it's dead too!!!! Much better than round up and other brands I've used in the past that had little or not effect. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get rid of weeds!!

This is the only product I have ever used that is effective in low temperatures. It gives me the ability to kill weeds when they first appear in the Spring instead of having to wait for warm weather to be effective

5 of 5 stars  Good product
By Grey in Spokane, WA on 05/23/2012

Great product for treating majority of broadleaf weeds and great amount of product if you don't need 1 gallon size. I blanket sprayed at 1.6 oz per 1000 sq. ft. I could see results next day. On the 4th day black medic, clover, speedwell, dandelion are all curled up and brown. Will see the end result and if there are any survivors in 2 weeks.

By Carson in Smyrna, TN on 04/25/2017

Sprayed the recommended amount on my small lawn with a little two gallon sprayer. Within a day I could already see wilt. After my first or second mow or spraying the weeds, they were gone and my grass had taken over. Works as advertised.

5 of 5 stars  Great job on clover in November
By Bill in Woodbridge, VA on 11/28/2016

I had spent a lot of time getting my yard back into shape during the fall and after finally getting the new seed to take and grow I noticed some clover starting to take hold. I used some weed killer from a big box store but it didn't have any effect. I decided to come here and do a little research since this is where I found the best product to kill my nutsedge. The SpeedZone worked like a charm even in the cooler weather. I didn't know that some weed killers only work well in hot weather. Great product!

5 of 5 stars  Great Broadleaf killer
By Liston in Mississippi on 07/25/2016
    Verified Purchase

This is the best product (for the price) I have found for getting rid of broadleaf weeds in common bermuda. It takes care of spurge and buttonweed with no problem, but make sure you use a surfactant and a pre-emerge like generic barricade. The pre-emerge will prevent the seeds on the plant from germinating and returning (I've learned this after spot spraying all summer long). You can expect results in a day or two if used properly.

4 of 5 stars  Speedzone Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate
By Gary in Trout Lake, WA on 06/29/2016

This product definitely nuked the vast numbers of dandelions that were growing large and vigorously in my lawn. Within a week every one I had spot treated (precisely per the instructions) was black and shriveling away. Yay! But the blades of grass near the dandelions became yellow, so now the grass is green with plenty of yellow areas. Not as bad as Roundup, but still yellow. In fairness to the Speedzone product, the grass itself was not thick and green and healthy, but thin blades of fescue that were dryish no matter how much they were watered. The soil is very dry as it drains instantly, being volcanic soil. I wrote this to alert others what result they may get if their grass is weak or dry. Speedzone is powerful.

QCan SpeedZoneLawn Weed Killer be used on a new lawn (from seed) that is 7 weeks old and mowed 5 times already?

AThe SpeedZone Lawn Weed Killer label only states that you can reseed after 2 weeks of application.  Typically you want to mow the lawn at least twice before application so there should not be an issue on a lawn as established as what you described.
