Safety Products

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

Spurge may be found if the following conditions are met:

  • Spurge can grow in many different climates, conditions, and soils, but truly thrives in sunny, warm weather.
  • Spurge needs sunlight and does not want to compete for sunlight with other plants, therefore spurge can be found in areas of the lawn that are sparse or where grass is thin.
  • Certain types of spurge, including petty spurge and nodding spurge, will grow in dry conditions and can be found in clay, gravel, and sandy soil.

When Does Spurge Grow?

Spurge is a summer annual, meaning it will sprout, flower, and die during the warmer months of the year.

Depending on where you live and what the climate is like in your location, spurge could grow from early spring to late fall or only in the summer months.

Spurge will begin to grow when soil temperatures reach 60 degrees.

Once spurge begins to grow, it will spread quickly. Treating spurge as soon as possible is essential to preventing spurge from overtaking your lawn. Read the next part of our 4-part guide to learn how to get rid of spurge. Click the right arrow below to learn more.
