5 of 5 Stars  Surflan Pro Herbicide
By Jeffrey on May 11, 2011

Actually searched this product out. As a past lawn care professional and firm believer in liquid herbicides/slow release granular fertilizers, Surflan was the product we used, exclusively for pre-emergent crabgrass control. It never let us down. It mixes easily and can be combined with your early Spring broadleaf weed application in the same mix. Doesn't clog, even fine spray nozzles and rinses clean. The coloring is a great plus for avoiding excessive overlapping during application and wasting product. Excellent full season control. I don't use anything else.

July 10, 2011Lynn asked:

QWhat is the difference between Surflan AS and Surflan pro?

AThere is no difference between the two.  Surflan AS and Surflan Pro are the same product.  The manufacturer, for whatever reason, call them different things to differentiate between the product sizes, but they are the same product.

September 19, 2011Tony from Ohio asked:

QHow many ounces of Surflan do I need to use per gal of water?
I have evergreen trees planted in rows. How many ounces of Surflan do I need per gallon to control weeds for 4 months? Cultivation of soil around trees is not possible. Will this product still work?

ASurflan Pro is a pre-emergent weed control product. Surflan Pro does not control emerged weeds, established weeds, weeds growing from stolens, rhizomes, or root pieces. The area to be treated with this product needs to be weed free at the time of the application. You will need to use 3 fl oz of product per 1-2 gallons of water for 1,000 sq ft. The water in this case is just a carrier and you need to use enough water to make sure you get even coverage and to make sure you are getting the correct amount of product over the 1,000 sq ft area. There are directions on page 7 of the Surflan Pro product label that explains how to properly calibrate your sprayer.

September 6, 2011Ed from Bakersfield Ca asked:

QIs Surflan Pro a good choice for bare ground to prevent spring weeds and foxtails?

ASurflan Pro is a great product for treatment of bare ground but when applying it to bare ground it should be applied at a higher rate of concentration, which would be 4 quarts per acre.

September 25, 2011Richard from Marlborough, Mass. asked:

QDoes Surflan Pro control crabgrass?
I have a lot of crabgrass on my lawn. Can I use this product next spring to keep the crabgrass from growing?

ASurflan Pro is labeled to control crabgrass in your turf and is a great product to use as a pre-emergent.  You should apply pre-emergents now in the fall, and then again in the spring typically.  For optimum times in your area to apply a pre-emergent, you should contact your local county extension office.

February 1, 2012Conor from Chicago, Illinois asked:

QCan Surflan be used on lawns in central Illinois? - Cool season grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass?

ASurflan Pro is specifically formulated for warm season grasses and is not labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass. We do carry several products that are labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass such as Dimension 2EW, Gallery 75 DF and Tupersan 50 WP. When selecting a product we recommend that you read product label (product labels are available on each individual product page under the picture of the product) to be sure that Kentucky Bluegrass is listed as a tolerant grass species. You also want to verify that the weed(s) you are trying to eliminate are listed on the label. Last, be sure to note whether the product is a pre-emergent or a post-emergent/selective herbicide (this will be listed on the individual product page in the product description box and also on the product label).

February 5, 2013Bob from Scottsdale, Az asked:

QI have desert landscaping. Small rocks cover the area between plants. How much would I need for about 1000 sq?
Will this product be appropriate to prevent weeds from coming up. If so,

ASurflan is often used for this type of weed control with great results. You will need about 3 fl oz of Surflan per 1,000 sq ft area. Be sure you review the product label to make sure your desirable plants are listed as being tolerant to the product.

February 6, 2013Hitesh from Canton,texas asked:

QCan I use Surflan with a dial up hose sprayer like ortho's?

ASurflan products are known to be pretty thick and will likely clog the hose end sprayer. The other problem with using the hose end sprayer for the Surflan application is that they are not very accurate and you can wind up dispensing more/less product than needed in a given area which can lead to less than desirable results.

March 16, 2013Clancy from Gilbert, Az asked:

QWhat is the best pre-emergent for weed control on a crushed granite yard?
I live in the Phoenix, AZ area and my yard is crushed granite with a some trees, bushes and cacti, which I don't want to harm. I'm assuming a liquid application would be the best -- is that correct?

ASurflan Pro is often the pre-emergent product of choice for this type of landscape. You will need about 3 fl oz of Surflan per 1,000 sq ft area. Be sure you review the product label to make sure your desirable plants are listed as being tolerant to the product.
