Surflan Pro Herbicide
By Jeffrey in Southeastern, WI on 05/11/2011
Actually searched this product out. As a past lawn care professional and firm believer in liquid herbicides/slow release granular fertilizers, Surflan was the product we used, exclusively for pre-emergent crabgrass control. It never let us down. It mixes easily and can be combined with your early Spring broadleaf weed application in the same mix. Doesn't clog, even fine spray nozzles and rinses clean. The coloring is a great plus for avoiding excessive overlapping during application and wasting product. Excellent full season control. I don't use anything else.

I'm not a big fan of putting chemicals on my lawn, but I've been breaking my back trying to tame the beasties in our lawn for two years now since we moved in. Half of our yard was new lawn, and half of it was old. The new half was particularly plagued by weeds, so I decided to give the pre-emergent herbicide a shot this year, and after some research decided on this product. I applied it to the new lawn early in March, as soon as we had a relatively mild weekend. And the results? Lets just say I can't wait to do it again next year to the entire lawn. It looks as if someone drew a line in the sand in our backyard--the half that had the pre-emergent is spotless--not a dandelion in sight. The other half? Lets just say it looks like a war zone. I really wish I had done the entire yard, because this stuff is incredible.

Love this stuff!
By Jessica in San Antonio, TX on 03/16/2015
This stuff is great! I have applied this to my yard 3 times over a year and love the results! I even spray part of my neighbors yard that connects with mine ( they don't know it though) and the part I sprayed is weed free and their other half isn't.

Surflan Pro for pre-emergent weed control
By Laren in Surprise, AZ on 03/27/2015
Mixes easily and sprays out well in a 2 gallon sprayer. Very worthwhile calibrating the sprayer as directed in the instructions. The product is so thick that it clings to the sidewalls of the measuring compartment of the container and therefore it is not easy to get a quick exact measurement. Would be be nice to have an separate ounce graduated measuring cup come with it. At the wait and see stage as to whether it does the weed prevention trick!

Surflan Pro Pre-emergent
By Gunny in Moore, Ok on 03/13/2016
This is the third year that I have used this product. Followed instructions and made sure to water it in if no rain expected. Great results! I put it down on Bermuda grass while dormant and before winter season for winter weeds. I use a backpack pump sprayer and do entire yard. Make sure to not rake or disturb soil after application. Best Price anywhere and Free shipping and Product was here 2 days after ordering. Thanks!

I used this product a few weeks ago for the first time. During this time of the year, I usually went out every other day to spray for weeds, but now there's no weeds.
By Art in Cape Coral, FL on 04/24/2016
It's orange color sure makes it easy to see where you have sprayed.

QWhat is the difference between Surflan AS and Surflan Pro?
AThere is no difference between the two. Surflan AS and Surflan Pro are the same product. The manufacturer, for whatever reason, call them different things to differentiate between the product sizes, but they are the same product.

QHow many ounces of Surflan do I need to use per gal of water?
I have evergreen trees planted in rows. How many ounces of Surflan do I need per gallon to control weeds for 4 months? Cultivation of soil around trees is not possible. Will this product still work?
ASurflan Pro is a pre-emergent weed control product. Surflan Pro does not control emerged weeds, established weeds, weeds growing from stolens, rhizomes, or root pieces. The area to be treated with this product needs to be weed free at the time of the application. You will need to use 3 fl oz of product per 1-2 gallons of water for 1,000 sq ft. The water in this case is just a carrier and you need to use enough water to make sure you get even coverage and to make sure you are getting the correct amount of product over the 1,000 sq ft area. There are directions on page 7 of the Surflan Pro product label that explains how to properly calibrate your sprayer.

QWhat is the shelf life of Surflan Pro Herbicide?
AYou should use the Surflan Pro Herbicide within 3 years of the date of purchase.

QIs Surflan Pro a good choice for bare ground to prevent spring weeds and foxtails?
ASurflan Pro is a great product for treatment of bare ground but when applying it to bare ground it should be applied at a higher rate of concentration, which would be 4 quarts per acre.
09/25/2011 Richard from Marlborough, Mass.
QDoes Surflan Pro control crabgrass?
I have a lot of crabgrass on my lawn. Can I use this product next spring to keep the crabgrass from growing?
ASurflan Pro is labeled to control crabgrass in your turf and is a great product to use as a pre-emergent. You should apply pre-emergents now in the fall, and then again in the spring typically. For optimum times in your area to apply a pre-emergent, you should contact your local county extension office.

QI have a moss lawn in the mountains of North Georgia. Will Surflan harm my moss?
A Surflan Pro Herbicide is a pre emergent herbicide that will prevent weeds and grasses from germinating. †If it is applied to a moss lawn, it will prevent new weeds, including new moss, from emerging. †It will not hurt moss that has already germinated.

QHow soon can you mow after spraying Surflan?
AWe would recommend waiting at least 2-3 days after applying Surflan in order to mow your lawn. This goes for before an application as well.

QCan you use Surflan Pro Herbicide after the vegetable garden has been completely cleared of edible items? AZ
I have had a tremendous weed problem with my back yard. I spend most of the summer just getting the yard in some normalcy. I've tried everything in the book. Currently I'm spraying CLEAR which seems to work better than anything I've tried before but the problem still exists. I'm hoping for a solution. Thank you MB Greenway
AWe do not recommend using Surflan Pro Herbicide on edibles even if the fruits and/or vegetables have been cleared. It is only labeled for non bearing fruit and nut trees. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

QI have a small yard, about 5500 sq. feet what is the best way to spray it?
I read that hose end sprayers will likely clog due to the thickness of the product.
AUsing a pressurized hand-pump sprayer would work well. You can find them in 1 or 2 gallon sizes. 1 gallon generally covers about 1,000 sq ft.

QIs the Orange color in Surflan Pro Herbicide staining?
Like several other people I have a lot of stone in my Florida landscaping. Most of the rock is Medium White or Brown. Will the Orange color of Surflan Pro stain the whiter rocks or will rain wash it off over time??
ASurflan Pro may cause a slight stain. If you start to notice a slight discolor, rinsing the rocks with water should remove it.

QCan I mix Surflan Pro with Anime 400?
Anime 400 is Dimethylamine salt of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid - 46.47%. I purchased your Surflan pro. I would prefer using Glyphosate but I have a bunch of 2,4-D on hand already. I am looking to knock out broadleafs and prevent emergence as well.
AThe blend of Surflan Pro and Anime 400 would be a great mix to use for control of the broad leaf weeds. Make sure to not water it in for at least 24 hours and you will see great results. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

QCan I use Surflan with a dial up hose sprayer like ortho's?
ASurflan products are known to be pretty thick and will likely clog the hose end sprayer. The other problem with using the hose end sprayer for the Surflan application is that they are not very accurate and you can wind up dispensing more/less product than needed in a given area which can lead to less than desirable results.

QCan Surflan be used on lawns in central Illinois? - Cool season grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass?
ASurflan Pro is specifically formulated for warm season grasses and is not labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass. We do carry several products that are labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass such as Dimension 2EW, Gallery 75 DF and Tupersan 50 WP. When selecting a product we recommend that you read product label (product labels are available on each individual product page under the picture of the product) to be sure that Kentucky Bluegrass is listed as a tolerant grass species. You also want to verify that the weed(s) you are trying to eliminate are listed on the label. Last, be sure to note whether the product is a pre-emergent or a post-emergent/selective herbicide (this will be listed on the individual product page in the product description box and also on the product label).
