    Q
    Is Talpirid safe for pets?
I have cats which love to catch moles.
    A

Talpirid Mole Bait, when used directed on the product label, will be applied to areas that will for the most part be inaccessible to non-target animals. In most cases, moles that consume the bait will die under ground in their tunnels eliminating the worry that cats or other predatory animals will eat the carcass. Most well fed pets such as cats do not consume dead animals that they find, instead they tend to "play" with it. An animal the size of a cat would have to consume many dead moles for there to be any concern of secondary poisoning.

    Q
What is the best season to treat for moles using Talpirid?
Now that we are closing on on fall, is it worth the expense to try to rid my yard now or better to wait till spring?
    A
Moles do not hibernate during the winter and you may find a lot of damage to your yard if you put off eliminating them now while they are still active. We recommend getting rid of moles whenever you see activity on your property.

  • Asked by Ltc from Marietta, Ga

    Q
How many worms per tunnel; or sq ft, etc., is applied? I don't
I have no idea of how many worms to order.
    A
You will need to bait every 5 to 10 feet of each active subsurface runway. With Mole bait the amount of tunnels will be what determines how much bait you will require. Most folks need about 10-20 worms per treatment depending on the number of tunnels/moles present. Each box of Talprid comes with 20 worms.

    Q
Is use of bromethalin safe to use for gopher/mole control near or in a vegetable garden
Is it carcinogenic? What is it's half life? Is it taken up into the plant, will it contaminate the soil and food from garden?
    A
Bromethalin is the active ingredient in many rodent control products. Without knowing the specific product you are requesting information on we can only give you general answers. Bromethalin does not move through the soil and is not taken up systemically into plants. Bromethalin products cannot be used in a vegetable garden but instead should be used around the outside perimeter of the garden for mole/gopher control. Talpirid is the only Bromethalin product that we carry that is labeled for mole control and it will only last for about 14 days when used as directed on the product label.

    A

  • Asked by John from Ormond Beach, Fl

    Q
How do I get rid of and keep moles out of my yard?
Just ready to lay 7000 sq ft of new floratam st Augustine sod in Ormond Beach , Fl. Noticed mole tunnels beginning to develop over last few weeks. Need to get rid if them, and then keep them out.
    A

There are many different ways to treat for moles. Please check out our Mole Control Page. One of the more effective means of mole control is using Talpirid Bait. One Talprid mole bait worm contains a lethal dose and can kill in 24 hours.

When you have mold activity in your yard it can in part be due to a plentiful food supply. Moles will feed on grubs, worms and other similar insects living in your turf. Many people in conjunction with using products designed to either trap, kill, or repel moles, will use a product like Dylox to kill the grubs and insects the moles are feeding on. By removing their food source it helps deter them from your yard. For full information on how to eradicate moles from your residence, see our section on Mole Control.

    Q
How do I determine how many Talpirid worms I may need?

This will depend entirely on how many moles you have on your property. Most customers with a light-medium infestation start with one Talpirid BAIT box, customers with a heavy infestation usually purchase two boxes.

  • Asked by Philip from Confluence, Pa.

    Q
Can you cut the Talpirid worms in half or pieces to get more coverage ?
This is my camp up in the Laural Highlands of Penna. I go here about 0nce per month in the winter it has been a very mild winter and these mole runs are everywhere when I go up . Last fall it started and bent the blade on my mower on mole mound. I need to get rid of these things by spring. Its all woods around the house. Should I get a case of this stuff or what ?
    A

The Talpirid Mole Bait is meant to be used whole. We do not recommend cutting the worms into pieces because you may wind up cutting the bait into pieces that are not large enough to deliver a fatal dose of the poison to the moles. As long as the tunnels are active and you are following the Talpirid product label instructions you should have success getting rid of the moles with this product.

    Q
Are Talpirid BAIT worms harmful to dogs?
I have two dogs 14 and 18 pounds. Would they be prone to dig up the worms? Do the worms have an odor that would cause them to try to dig them up?
    A

Talpirid Bait is safe for pets if used as directed. There is no odor that would cause them to dig them up. In most cases, the moles that consume the bait will die under ground in their tunnels eliminating the worry that animals or other predatory animals will eat the carcasses.

    Q
Moles in the winter? In Connecticut! Bought some Talpirid, will it work?
Piles of dirt scattered in areas! Weird for this time of year?
    A
Talpirid Bait should not be applied or stored in exreme temperatures. You will want to observe the areas of dirt that appears to be the active tunnel. You then can apply the Talpirid Bait with gloved hands into active areas. Per the manufacturer, 'Use your finger, small wooden dowel or a narrow rod to puncture a hole in the top of subsurface runways. Be careful not to crush runways. Mark opened runways and revisit them 48 to 72 hours later. Runways that have had holes resealed wihin 72 hours should be baited.

  • Asked by Tom from Lancaster, Ky
    06/24/2015
    Q
What methods and/tools do I need to effectively use Tapilrid?
I had a professional treat my yard for moles using Tapilrid. He used a rod to puncture the tunnel and then to insert the worms. Is there a special shape to the end of the rod?
    A
Talpirid Mole Bait is one of our best sellers for mole control in your lawn. It is a worm shaped mole bait that mimics the mole's natural food. To achieve maximum effect, Talpirid Mole Bait should only be placed in areas used habitually by moles for feeding.  There is no specific shape of rod end if needed to puncture. Try to leave the area undisturbed as possible. Five (5) to 7 days after bait application, check for mole activity using the same procedure for determining initial activity. Return 48 to 72 hours later and retreat all active runs. 1 Talpirid box (20 worms) is enough for two typical treatments Bait in unopened sealed box will last up to 1 year in controlled environment. Once opened, use within 15 days.

  • Asked by Jim from Mill Creek
    10/12/2016
    Q
What would you recommend for mole control application in front yard grass?
I was thinking of using Lesco Bandit insecticide .5% active.
    A

We do not sell Lesco brand products, however insecticides aren't useful unless you are treating for grubs or another Mole food source. We would recommend to use Talpirid Bait to use directly into active Mole tunnels. Read our Mole Treatment Guide for further information.

Can Talpirid Bait be absorbed in root crops like potatoes?
    A
Talpirid Bait may only be used in lawns, parks, around homes, golf courses, ornamental gardens, nurseries and other non-crop grassy areas. We would recommend using a mole trap for your situation. The Talpirid Mole Trap is safe and easy to use.
