Talstar P (Talstar One)

Talstar P (also known as Talstar One or Talstar Professional) Multi-Insecticide with bifenthrin is one of the most trusted and widely-used insecticides by pest control professionals today. The name Talstar P/Talstar One means one professional solution for everything: Talstar kills over 75 insect pests and can be used for indoor pest control, outdoor pest control, food handling areas, turf and ornamental treatments, in the yard as a yard spray to treat fleas or other yard pests, and even for termite control! Talstar has a long residual, so it keeps on killing pests for over three months after you've sprayed it. Plus, Talstar One is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won't break down easily with rainfall. For termites, ants, mosquitoes, roaches, beetles, spiders, and everything in-between, Talstar is simply fantastic. 1 Qt. concentrate yields 32-96 finished gallons. Talstar One can last up to 3 months. It is very effective on Japanese Beetles, clover mites ants, termites, fleas, ticks, spiders, scorpions, roaches, millipedes, earwigs, army worms, mealybugs, mites, grasshoppers, pillbugs, cutworms, sod webworms, weevils, leaf miners, box elder bugs, bees, wasps, sowbugs, crickets, and turf and ornamental pests.

HOW TO USE: Talstar is best applied with a 1 gallon sprayer. Mix 1/2 or 1 oz. of Talstar P in one gallon of water and apply to the outside foundation of the home, approx. 3 feet up the side of the house and 2 feet out from the house. Also spray entry points into the home such as around windows, pipes, doorways, etc. Always read the label completely before use! 1 qt. yields: approx. 32-96 gallons.

For Mosquito Control:
In addition to the treatment around the foundation of the home as mentioned above (see HOW TO USE), spray Talstar P on the underside of leaves on the lower-hangning branches of trees around the backyard or area where mosquitoes are a problem.  You can also spray the underside of leaves on shrubs and ornamentals.

I spray around perimeter of house about 2-3 times a year and it keeps any and all pests away. I used Diazinon before but those results pale in comparison to Talstar One. Most phosphor based products break down the moment they are expose to sunlight. This one will not. We have an open ditch behind our property that used to be the home to millions of mosquitoes - not anymore. I spray about 200 ft of the ditch in either direction twice a year, using a total of perhaps 30 oz of Talstar a year, and we have been mosquito free for three years. Was this review helpful to you?

By Karen on July 23, 2009 It seems our entire street lives on an ant hill, because we could not keep those varmits out for long. I was paying $75 per quarter for pest control in our house and outside as well. I read the directions, applied a band around the outside perimeter, windows and doorways of our home and I have not seen one bug, ant, or anything for the past 2 months. I use it for roaches and spiders inside my home. I spray on fire ant mounds with great results , one gallon will treat around 6 to 10 medium size mounds. Price is right too. Within a matter of weeks after moving into our new house the scorpions started showing up inside the house. We have several dogs and cats and I was concerned for their safety as well as our own. A friend recommended a professional pest control company and things improved dramatically after the first treatment. We signed up for regular treatment which was every 3 months. Unfortunately, it was to their schedule which seemed to constantly change and it became extremely inconvenient for us. They would even want to spray while it was raining. The last time the pest control guy was here my husband asked what they used and the guy was more than willing to tell him that it was Talstar P. After my husband told me the name I Googled it and found DoMyOwnPestControl. We then decided to do our own pest control and not be at the mercy of someone else's schedule. It's very easy, effective and, needless to say, costs a LOT less money - one quart lasted us almost two years and cost about the same as one of the pest control company's visits. I've tried pretty much everything from the hardware store but that stuff barely made a dent. I purchased Telstar P a few weeks ago. I only wish I had looked into this two years ago. Within 1 day, there was about a 90% reduction in the ants. I sprayed 5 days ago and have not seen a single ant in the last couple days. Usually the ants were at their worst right after a strong rain. Well, it rained very hard yesterday, for the first time, we didn't see a single ant. I'm sold on this stuff! Was this review helpful to you?

Q  Can Talstar be sprayed on my cucumber plants or vegetable garden? A Talstar cannot be used on vegetables or fruits directly that are going to be consumed. This goes for most of the insecticide products on our website. We do carry a product called Malathion 57% that can be used on edible fruits and vegetables as long as it is not within two weeks of harvesting.

Q  Does Talstar come in an aerosol form? A There is a new aerosol product coming out in Fall 2010. Please see Talstar XTRA Aerosol.

Q  Will Talstar control the longed-horn beetle? I use Talstar for the flower garden and it works wonders! A Talstar is labeled for many beetles but not specifically for the long horned beetle.  However, after doing some research we have found many sites and government studies that list Talstar as a fom of treatment for the long horned beetle.

Q  How effective is Talstar on Scorpions? A Talstar is our most popular general use insecticide and the most widely used by professional pest control companies.  It can be used indoors as well as outside, and it is odorless and very safe to use when children and pets are present.  The key to scorpion control is a very thorough outside treatment around the foundation of your home.  For scorpions you should treat around the exterior of your home every 30 days in the spring and summer when scorpions are most active.

Q  What is the shelf life of Talstar (or Bifen IT)? A The manufacturer gives Talstar P and Bifen a shelf life of 3 years as long as you keep the top on the bottle and not store it in direct sunlight.

Q  Can Talstar be used around pharmaceutical facilities? A Talstar can be used around these type of facilities as long as it used according to the label and applied to cracks and crevices down low near the floor.

Q  Can you tell me if Talstar will kill mange mites in the ground? A Talstar is labeled for general mites, but mange mites typically are on livestock or pets.  For mange mites we recommend Tengard SFR which could be used to treat the ground outside, as well as inside the home over a certain area.  Tengard SFR can also be used on a pet to kill mites without harming the pet.

Q  Is Talstar P effective in killing bird mites? A Talstar One/Talstar P is effective against killing bird mites, however it is only labeled to apply in cracks and crevices.  When treating for bird mites usually you would want to spray all carpeted areas and lightly spray the flooring.  Talstar is not labeled for this.  We do have a product that is though, and its called Tengard SFR.  Tengard is a permethrin based product that is labeled to apply as a broad application or a space spray.  It is also very safe, it is even permissable to apply to pets to kill fleas and ticks.

Q  Will Talstar P do a good job controlling bagworms? I have been using a service to spray our Spruce and Junipers for bagworms each year. The cost has become rather high lately. Will Talstar P do a good job controlling bagworms? Are there any health concerns with this product? A Talstar is the #1 recommended product for bagworm control. Talstar is known to have a very low toxicity for mammals making it safe to use around people and pets. Please visit the Talstar product page where you can review  Talstar's product label as well as the MSDS. Talstar applications should start in April and continue monthly through June for bagworm control. Be sure foliage is sprayed thorughly to the point of runoff to achieve adequate coverage.

Q  Can Talstar P be used on vegetables if it is properly diluted? Can Talstar P be used on vegetables if it is properly diluted? I normally use .3% Bifenthrin diluted for squash bugs. A No. Talstar is not labeled for use on edible vegetation. The only product we carry that can be used on vegetable gardens is Malathion.

Q  What is a parasitic wasp? How do you treat the interior of a building? A A parasitic wasp is a beneficial wasp that uses other insects including aphids, beetles, caterpillars, flies, sawflies, scale insects and true bugs as hosts into or onto which it lays its eggs. The development of the wasp eggs will usually kill the host insect. Parasitic wasps are considered beneficial insects for the natural control of many pest insects that they provide. A number of parasitic wasp species are commercially available from insectaries. Talstar is a great choice for treating the interior and exterior of most buildings and will eliminate over 75 different insect pests. Talstar is diluted with water as specified by the product label and applied using a hand pump sprayer. Spray directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.

Q  Can you spray Talstar P onto food garden such as fruits and Vegetables? A No. Talstar is not labeled for use on edible vegetation. The only products we carry that can be used on vegetable gardens is Malathion or Cyonara Lawn and Garden Spray.

Q  Does Talstar P work on bed bugs? And if so, how often should one apply your product? A Talstar P is labeled for bed bugs, but the Talstar label itself says it should not be used as the only product to get rid of a bed bug problem.  Typically one product will not do the job.  That's why we offer our Bed Bug Kits, which have multiple products that are used in different areas in the bedroom and that do different things.  The kit is exactly the products that a professional company would use and charge you hundreds of dollars to apply.  All of our kits come with full instructions on where to apply each product.  We make it easy as possible for you to treat your own bed bug problem, and our kits have a very high success rate when used correctly.

Q  Will Talstar P hurt aquatic animals? A Yes. Fish and aquatic invertebrates share many of the same biological characteristics as insects making them susceptible to insecticides. Talstar P's product label has these precautions: "This pesticide is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water, to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Drift and run-off from treated areas may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in neighboring areas. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment washwaters. Care should be used when spraying to avoid fish and reptile pets in/around ornamental ponds"

Q  Is Talstar P safe around infants and safe to spray in infants bedrooms? A Talstar P can be safely used in an infant's room as long as the infant is out of the room during the application and he/she does not return until the spray is dry. Talstar is to be used as only as a crack and crevice spray indoors. Please be sure to read the product label and follow all directions and precautions.
