Talstar Granules (Talstar PL), with its unique sand core granular structure, provides long-term protection against insect pests in lawn, gardens and landscaped areas for two to four months. Talstar Granules penetrate deep into mulch and grass to kill pests where they breed and hide. Simply spread the granules over your lawn and water in according to the label directions. The difference between Talstar EZ Granules and Talstar PL is granular size (Talstar PL is more fine like sand, and therefore can penetrate deeper than EZ, PL stands for perimeter and lawn).

Talstar Granules with Ants & Cinch bugs
By William on September 21, 2010A great product to be used in Florida. There is not an ant or cinch bug present in my yard after the treatment. Comparable services from companies like Chem Lawn will cost you up to $120.00 for a product like this. The granules were easy to spread and the smallest package available from this website covered about 1/4 acre lot. I was impressed with product and service.

Talstar PL Granules
By Manuel on May 4, 2010

I always had problems with ants but could not get rid of them. I was told about Talstar PL from a professional who had great success with the product. I purchased a 25lb bag and spread it as instructed, the next day I went and checked on the ant piles and low and behold the ants were at the top of the mound DEAD. I haven't had any ant piles or ants in my yard for 7 months. I just bought my second bag, I figure with all the rain here in South Louisiana it was time to retreat. GREAT Stuff.

Talstar
By Ethan on May 23, 2010I applied the Talstar PL Granules @ 2-3 weeks ago. The ants appeared to have been killed. I am cautious to say this as I am waiting for the real hot summer weather as this is when they become very active. Never the less I have 50 lbs left over so I can apply when I need it. I hope that the ants have left me as I have a very large infestation in my lower yard. Thank you and I will be contacting you soon when I need more Talstar. I have not had to use the liquid yet. P.S The ordering and the service from you was fantastic. I received my items @ 3 days from when I ordered. The free freight sure is a big bonus!!!

Mix with sand before spreading
By John on May 11, 2013
Verified Purchase
I have used this product the past four years. I use it every spring before the fire ants get bad. And every fall just before winter to prevent spiders and all the other critters from coming in my home. This product is very fine like sand so a spreader will disperse it very quickly. I find it much easier to apply this product with a push type spreader. Before I put it in the spreader I mix it 50/50 with some dry sand. And then put my spreader on its lowest setting. ( sand must be dry or it will clump. For best results open the bag a few days before you plan to use it and stir the sand around twice a day)

talstar works
By Gary on January 12, 2013

Talstar has worked very well for us. In addition to regular insect control we have had great results in ridding an infestation of millipedes. Other positive results have been the elimination of armadillos and moles (kill the grubs that they eat, they left our yard). Great product worthy of my reccomendation to family and friends.

Talstar does what it claims. 6 months and no ants. We are plagued with fire ants so rather than chase them around the yard with other pesticides Talstar gives us peace of mind for those 6 months

August 19, 2009 Ray asked:

AIt is perfectly safe to let your pet back on the treated surface one hour after watering in the Talstar PL Granules.
April 7, 2010 Michelle asked:
QCan I use Talstar Granules for Chinch bug control on St. Augustine grass?
I have a cinch bug problem that has crippled my beautiful st. augustine lawn. We were about to resod, then I saw this. Will it work and if so will the grass grow back?
A Talstar granules are one of the most effective chinch bug treatments on the market. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Irrigate the treated area with up to 0.25 inches of water immediately after application to activate (release from the granule) the insecticide. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil. If you have a few small spots the St. Augustine runners might fill it in this season (of course water, fertilizer, and lots of sunshine helps). If large portions of the lawn were damaged it will likely be late spring or later of next year before the lawn recovers. Very heavily damaged areas may need to be resodded.
May 17, 2010 Kevin asked:
QHow much area will a 25lb bag of Talstar PL Granules cover using a spreader or by hand?
ADepending on the insect you are treating one 25LB or Talstar PL will treat approximately 5,000-10,000 square feet. Please read the product label to determine the usage rate for the insects you are trying to eliminate.
July 15, 2010 Kimberly asked:
QCan I eat vegetables and herbs that Talstar PL was applied to?
Talstar PL granules was spread around my organic vegetable garden, some actually on the lettuce. Is my garden now contaminated? Are my vegetables and herbs safe to eat?
ATalstar PL granules are not labeled to be used on edible vegetation. We recommend discarding any herbs or vegetables that the Talstar PL granules was applied to.
March 12, 2010 Linda asked:
QIs Talstar Granules safe to use in the yard around my dog?
I have a dog that is always eating something he shouldn't be. The pest service I use wants to apply the Talstar granules in my yard and I'm concerned about letting my dog around any chemicals for fear of him possibly ingesting it. What to do?
AIf the Talstar granules product label is followed, then the granules will not be available for your dog to ingest. Usually the granules are applied to the lawn and then immediately watered in, sending the insecticide into the soil and thatch layer. Your dog should be removed from the yard prior to the Talstar granule application and should not return until the application is dry. And don't forget, you can save money by purchasing the Talstar granules and applying them yourself and you can have piece of mind knowing that the product label was followed.

Debra from Folsom, La. asked:
QI have 2 acres of property in Folsom, La. I want to spread with Talstar. Will this be toxic for my three small
AAs long as animals and children are kept out of the area during the application and for about an hour following the watering in you should not have any issues with toxicity.

Lucyjast from Paxton, Ma. asked:
QI live in Ma. and recently on my hemlock I found woolly adelgid.
How to get rid of them? Is Talstar PL Granules effective? What would you recommend? Thanks.
ATalstar PL granules will not help with a wooly adelgid infestation. We recommend using a product that works systemically and contains the active ingredient imidalcoprid such as Dominion 2L. When using Dominion 2L as a soil drench for Hemlock Woolly Adelgids you should use 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) diluted in 1 pint - 1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested. Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

Mark from Durham, Nc asked:
QWhat granular or dust product is most recommended for chigger control?
I do have kids present in the backyard. I plan on treating only the mulched areas, not the entire turf area of the yard, plus an area where English Ivy forms as a groundcover.
ATalstar PL granules is our most popular for chiggers. It is also very safe. You should water in the granules after application. Kids and pets can reenter the treatment area after you have watered the product in and it has had time to dry.

Andy from San Marcos, Tx asked:
QI have chickens that eat bugs and grass is talstar safe. Also I am on well water what is the leach depth?
ATalstar PL should not be used in places where the chickens will feed on the grass. Talstar P does not move through the soil more than a few inches. You should apply Talstar P at least 5 ft away from the well.

Carl from Winter Garden, Fl. asked:
QCan I use my Agri-Fab Broadcast Spreader (Model 45-02111) for Talstar PL Granules (Setting?)
AYou can use just about any hand spreader a long as it can be calibrated for the usage rate you will require. The easiest way to determine the correct setting for your needs is outlined below:
If you need to use 3lbs of product per 1,000 sq ft you would add 3 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft). If you have product left, your setting is too low. If you run out of product, your setting is too high. Please refer to the Talstar PL product label to determine the correct usage rate for your specific needs.

Marc from Woburn, Mass asked:
QWill the Talstar PL granules kill ticks? We have a large tic problem
ATalstar PL will kill ticks that crawl over treated surfaces when used as directed on the product label.
March 4, 2012
Sherry from Poquoson, Virginia asked:
QIs the Talstar PL Granules safe on newer lawns?
We seeded last Fall, we were a little late, most seeds germinated but not all.
ATalstar is an insecticide, not a pre-emergent or herbicide, so it has no effect on germinating grass or turf whatsoever. It will not harm, inhibit, or promote any kind of growth in turf grass, it is strictly formulated to kill insects and that's it. So there are no issues at all with using it on your grass.

Bryce from Baton Rouge, La asked:
QI applied Talstar Pl Granules to fire ant infestation around and under my lettuce/broccolli. Safe to eat?
Did not apply granules directly to vegetable plants. Drift may have settled on some.
ATalstar granules should not be used on or within the dripline or root zone of edible vegetation. We recommend discarding any vegetables that had the Talstar applied within the root zone or directly on the plant itself.

Linda from Sarasota Florida asked:
QAfter applying Talstar Granules and watering in, when is the next treatment, could not find any information?
AWe are not exactly sure what you are treating for, but Talstar granules are made to last for about 90 days after watered into your lawn. So, we recommend re-applying every 3 months for optimum protection.

Clifton from Pensacola, Fl asked:
QI live in NW Fl. When should I apply Talstar PL granules to my yard?
ATalstar PL applications should be applied prior to egg hatch of the insects you are trying to control. We recommend taking a moment to read over the Talstar PL product label and if necessary contacting your local cooperative extension office to obtain more information on the specific life cycle of the insect you are trying to eliminate.
