Talstar P (Talstar One) Talstar P (Talstar One) Video

Talstar P (also known as Talstar, Talstar One or Talstar Professional) Multi-Insecticide with bifenthrin is one of the most trusted and widely-used insecticides by pest control professionals today. The name Talstar P/Talstar One means one professional solution for everything: Talstar insecticide kills over 75 insect pests and can be used for indoor pest control, outdoor pest control, food handling areas, turf and ornamental treatments, in the yard as a yard spray to treat fleas or other yard pests, and even for termite control! Talstar has a long residual, so it keeps on killing pests for over three months after you've sprayed it. Plus, Talstar One is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won't break down easily with rainfall. For termites, ants, mosquitoes, roaches, beetles, spiders, and everything in-between, Talstar insecticide is simply fantastic. 1 Qt. concentrate yields 32-96 finished gallons. Application of Talstar P requires a sprayer.

How Talstar P (Talstar One) Works

Talstar P is a liquid concentrate insecticide which contains bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. Pyrethroids work by disrupting an insect's nervous system causing a weakened state followed by death. Talstar P does not provide an instant knockdown of pests, rather, pests pick up the residual active ingredient by contact. Talstar P is a repellent insecticide since it acts quickly enough that social insects such as ants cannot create a pheromone trail. This means that Talstar P will be most effective as a barrier with a thorough application. Talstar P residual can last up to 3 months.

Talstar P (Talstar One) Application Instructions

Inside, outside, and around the perimeter of structures, food handling areas, lawns, turf and ornamental trees and shrubs. NOT for use on food and vegetable gardens.  Talstar is best applied with a sprayer. Always read the label completely before use!

Yield-

1 pint (16 oz.) concentrate yields 16-32 gallons of finished solution.

1 quart (32 oz.) concentrate yields 32-96 gallons of finished solution.

¾ gallon (96 oz.) concentrate yields 96-192 gallons of finished solution.

1 gallon (128 oz.) concentrate yields 128-256 gallons of finished solution or covers 128,000 to 256,000 square feet for broadcast application.

Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Rates for Talstar P:

0.33 oz./gallon of water – 0.02% - prevention, low level infestions

0.5 oz./gallon of water – 0.031% – general indoor or outdoor use

1.0 oz./gallon of water - 0.06% - severe infestations, less frequent treatments, longer residual, quicker knockdown

1 gallon of finished solution should cover 1,000 square feet when using a hand pump sprayer.

*See the video above for general use mixing and application instruction using a sprayer like the Chapin premier 1 gallon sprayer.

Talstar P is for use in the following areas:

Indoors and outdoors on residential, institutional, public, commercial, and industrial buildings, greenhouses, animal confinement facilities/livestock premises, kennels, food handling establishments, and lawns, ornamentals, parks, recreational areas and athletic fields; trees, shrubs, foliage plants, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, and flowers in greenhouses, interiorscapes, including hotels, shopping malls, office buildings, etc., and outdoor plantscapes, such as around residential dwellings, parks, institutional buildings, recreational areas, athletic fields and home lawns (Non-bearing crops are perennial crops that will not produce a harvestable raw agricultural commodity during the season of application); feed and food handling establishments, animal confinement facilities, kennels, confined animal feeding operations, livestock premises, and in/around/under structures

Indoors-

Use 0.33 to 1 fluid oz. per gallon of water for residual pest control in buildings and structures and on modes of transport. Apply either as a crack and crevice, pinstream, spot, coarse, low pressure spray (25 psi or less) or with a paint brush.

Apply as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.

*Do not use as a space spray.

*Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices.

*Limit repeat application to no more than once per seven days.

Talstar P may be converted to a foam for residual treatment of voids or as a spot spray when visual marking of application is desired.

For bedbug control - Thorough application should be made to crack and crevices where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, boxsprings, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges, high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application. Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use. Not recommended for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use.

Outdoors-

General application for crawling pests - Mix 0.5 or 1 oz. of Talstar P in one gallon of water and apply to the outside foundation of the home, approx. 3 feet up the side of the house and 2 feet out from the house. Also spray entry points into the home such as around windows, pipes, doorways, etc. For general preventative treatment, apply Talstar P once every 3 months.

*Repeat applications should be limited to no more than once per seven days when using 0.33 oz./gal. of water. For the high use rate of 1.0 oz. per gallon of water, do not apply more than once every four weeks.

Mosquitos - In addition to the treatment around the foundation of the home as mentioned above, spray Talstar P on the underside of leaves on the lower-hanging branches of trees around the backyard or area where mosquitoes are a problem.  You can also spray the underside of leaves on shrubs and ornamentals. Do not apply when wind speed exceeds 10 MPH.

Higher application volumes may be used to obtain the desired coverage of dense vegetation or landscaping materials.

Bagworms – Use 0.125 to 0.25 oz. per 1,000 square feet (or 5.4 - 10.8 oz. per 100 gal.). Apply as a full coverage foliar spray. Use of a Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer will help reach higher into trees. Apply when larvae begin to hatch and spray larvae directly. Applications when larvae are young will be most effective.

Chinch bugs – Use 0.5 to 1.0 oz. per 1,000 square feet. Chinch Bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Irrigation of the grass area before treatment will optimize the penetration of the insecticide to the area where the chinch bugs are located. Use higher volume applications if the thatch layer is excessive or if a relatively long mowing height is being maintained. Chinch Bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher application rates (Up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) may be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the middle of the summer.

Lawn applications – A hose end sprayer like the Chapin hose end sprayer may be used to apply Talstar P for lawn pests. Use up to 1.0 oz. per 1,000 square feet. Higher volume applications may be more effective with some pests, so you may want to calibrate the sprayer to a lower rate (for example, 0.25 oz/gal.) and use more water to cover a 1,000 square foot area.

Stink Bugs – Talstar P has an expanded label for treatment of Stink Bugs indoors, outdoors, on lawns, and on ornamental plants. Use 0.33 to 1.0 oz/gal. of water and treat around door frames, window frames, vents, eaves, around the bottom of your foundation, and any other crack or crevice where an insect could gain entry, once a month August-November.

Termite Applications- Talstar P may be used for pre-construction or post-construction prevention of subterranean termites. Use 1.0 oz/gal. of water (0.06% solution) for most termite applications. For preconstruction horizontal barriers (such as under a concrete slab), use 1 gallon of solution per 10 square feet. For perimeter barrier treatments, use 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet. See our article How to Do a Termite Treatment, for further instructions on perimeter termite treatments. See product label for full instructions on using Talstar P to control subterranean termites.

5 of 5 Stars  Works better than Diazinon
By Jay on September 18, 2008

I bought a quart of Talstar One two years ago. It works better than I would've imagined. I spray around the perimeter of house about 2-3 times a year and it keeps any and all pests away. I used Diazinon before but those results pale in comparison to Talstar One. I hope you have this product for a long time to come.

5 of 5 Stars  Does not break down quickly in sunlight
By William on July 2, 2008

Talstar P is an excellent product because it is so persistent and does not break down. Most phosphor based products break down the moment they are expose to sunlight. This one will not. We have an open ditch behind our property that used to be the home to millions of mosquitoes - not anymore. I spray about 200 ft of the ditch in either direction twice a year, using a total of perhaps 30 oz of Talstar a year, and we have been mosquito free for three years.

5 of 5 Stars  Great Stuff
By Linda on April 30, 2010

We live in the high desert of Northern AZ where there are scorpions, millipedes and lots of other nasty insects. Within a matter of weeks after moving into our new house the scorpions started showing up inside the house. We have several dogs and cats and I was concerned for their safety as well as our own. A friend recommended a professional pest control company and things improved dramatically after the first treatment. We signed up for regular treatment which was every 3 months. Unfortunately, it was to their schedule which seemed to constantly change and it became extremely inconvenient for us. They would even want to spray while it was raining. The last time the pest control guy was here my husband asked what they used and the guy was more than willing to tell him that it was Talstar P. After my husband told me the name I Googled it and found DoMyOwnPestControl. We then decided to do our own pest control and not be at the mercy of someone elses schedule. It's very easy, effective and, needless to say, costs a LOT less money - one quart lasted us almost two years and cost about the same as one of the pest control company's visits. More importantly we spray at the optimum time and under the best weather conditions.

5 of 5 Stars  Read the directions, spray it yourself & save big!
By Karen on July 23, 2009

It seems our entire street lives on an ant hill, because we could not keep those varmints out for long. I was paying $75 per quarter for pest control in our house and outside as well. I read the directions, applied a band around the outside perimeter, windows and doorways of our home and I have not seen one bug, ant, or anything for the past 2 months. We have had rainy and exceptionally dry weather, too. I highly recommend Talstar One.

  • 5 of 5 Stars  Really kills the bugs!!
By Brian on April 15, 2014

I sprayed this about 3 weeks ago around the perimeter of my house - spraying like the video instructed to do. I also sprayed in the crawl space under the house. There are dead bugs everywhere around the perimeter of my house and on my front porch. This has kept a nice residual even after rain. I am very pleased with this product. Also, before I sprayed we started having ants show up in the house...big ants too. We have only seen 1 or 2 after I sprayed, and after about a week and a half we haven't seen any. I guess it got on one ant and it sent the poison back to the colony. I can't wait to spray again and kill all these nasty critters!

  • 5 of 5 Stars  Works well
By Shane on April 14, 2014

I treated the outside perimeter of my home, the sidewalk, back patio, and the yard. Next day, bugs on their backs all over. June bugs, beetles of various sorts, spiders, etc. I really needed to kill an ant colony that decided to inhabit the sand in a paver patio that we'd just built in the backyard. After using dust 2 different times, I went with this. Did a fantastic job of knocking out all the fire ants. Had my son's birthday party a few days later and no issues. Nobody was bit by a fire ant and there were no issues with bugs with all the kids and people in our yard.

Live in Atlanta, so had quite a few different bugs that we were trying to prevent/get rid of. Biggest improvement were with lady bugs. If you are from atl, you know what I am talking about, if not, they are a huge pain. These were a huge nuisance the first year in our house but I sprayed Talstar both inside and outside and we haven't seen lady bugs since. Our termite bait guys want to charge hundreds to come spray quarterly, I spray bi-monthly and am very satisfied (not to mention the money you save).

June 4, 2010 James asked:

QWhat is the correct mixture of Talstar P for indoor and outdoor prevention.
The mixture would be for roaches, silverfish, and ants etc. We have tree roaches and have controlled them with a professional exterminator till now. We will use inside and outside.

AFor the initial application and in areas where pest populations are high you should use 1 oz of Talstar per gallon of water for indoor and outdoor use. For maintenance applications you can use 1/2 ounce of Talstar per gallon of water.

September 2, 2010 Peter asked:

QWhich product is more recommended for termites Talstar P or Termidor SC?
My home was originally treated with Talstar 72 from the builder 5 years ago.

ATermidor SC is the #1 termite product on the market. When used as an in-ground barrier treatment, Termidor SC will protect your home or business for over 10 years. Termidor SC is completely undetectable by termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony. Termidor SC controls all types of termites including subterranean, formosan, and drywood termites. Talstar P lasts for about 5 years in the ground and works as a repellent, killing only those insects that come into contact with the treated area.

QWhat can I use to get rid of Kudzu bugs in GA?
I have little brown bugs all over my porch rails, side of house, windows, etc. There were a few last year, but this past weekend, I noticed many, many more. What is best to keep them away?

A"Kudzu" bugs are a type of stink bug that is an invasive species in the south and has really started to grow as a nuisance in recent years. While there isn't really a repellent product to keep them away from your home you can use a product like Talstar P to kill the bugs that land on treated surfaces. Talstar P can be diluted at a rate of 1 oz  of product per gallon of water and applied using a hand pump sprayer on the areas that you mentioned (do not spray on top of porch railings where people place there hands frequently)

April 1, 2014 Marie from Margate, Fl asked:

QCan Talstar P be used on rugs both in a home and vehicle is there a strong odor?
I live in south Florida next to a canal and we seem to have a huge no see um issue. Although, we have no standing water. We are getting bit by something we cannot see. Continuous use of repellents is not a option.

A Talstar P is odorless but cannot be applied as an indoor broadcast application. It is labeled only as a crack and crevice application per the product label. We recommend that you vacuum daily, use a steamer and apply BioDefense in the home and the vehicle. BioDefense has a lemongrass scent that will eventually dissapate.

QCould you suggest a good outdoor bug (including ants) spray to go all around my house in East Central Florida?

A Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

QWhat is a good general indoor and yard granual pest control?
Currently I have purchased and use Demon WP for outdoor application around the house but I also want to find a good general indoor pest control and a general outdoor granule for use as backyard grass application so my kids don't get bit up. We don't have any pest issues now but I just canceled my yearly pest control to do it my self as it was getting pricy to pay every 3 months. Can you suggest anything. Thank you

QI just bought a house, can you give me a Home Pest Control plan to follow? Mainly to prevent indoor insects
No bugs seen at all yet but as prevention to roaches, ants, spiders etc. I'm totally new to this and would appreciate guidance. Also require pet and baby safe since I have 5 indoor cats and 3 dogs and a newborn. House is in nice well kept HOA and lawn gets treated also.

A One of our most populare product for overall control is Talstar P.  A multi-Insecticide with bifenthrin is one of the most trusted and widely-used insecticides by pest control professionals today. The name Talstar P/Talstar One means one professional solution for everything. Talstar will last outdoors 1-2 months and indoors 3 months. Child and pet safe after the treated areas have dried. Dry time is approx one hour.

QIs Bifenthrin (Talstar) or a different product better suited for rodent/bird mites?
After a month of getting mysterious bites on our bodies, we found mites in the bathroom. Not a huge infestation but 8-10 here and there. An entomologist identified the mite as most likely rodent/bird mites. We have yet to find the source of the mites as no nests or burrows have been found by us or an exterminator. He suggested using bifenthrin and diatomaceous earth to control the problem. I have yet to use bifenthrin. I sealed up the cracks and gaps in the bathroom as best I could and laid down diatomaceous earth around the toilet. I saw fewer mites after this but they continue to appear especially on the toilet. Should I go ahead and try bifenthrin or is there another product better suited for this siutation?

A Talstar is one of the best insecticdes for mite control. The product label recommends using 1 oz of Talstar per gallon of water and spray around baseboards, window frames, exhaust vent, toilet, and under the sink (around piping). It will also be benficial to spray along baseboards, window frames, door frames, thresholds, back behind and underneath appliances. Also, performing a perimeter treatment on the outside of your home is recommended. Spray the foundation of your home about 2-3 feet up the side of the structure and come out 2-3 feet on the ground. Be sure to spray the exterior of window frames, door frames, and where piping enters your home.

QMud Daubers
How does this product fare against mud daubers? i dont see them listed on the insect label. i'm looking for something that has a residual killing effect for mud daubers and all types of wasps and bees

A Talstar P will kill mud daubers that come into contact with treated areas for a sufficient amount of time to receive a lethal dose. You will need to dilute 1 fl oz of Talstar P per gallon of water and broadcast spray over the areas where you have noticed activity. Most folks notice only very limited results from broadcast sprays of insecticides for cicada killers because they don't land and walk around for a long enough time before entering their underground burrow. For a more direct treatment, you can use Delta dust in each individual burrow. You may also want to consider our Wasp and Hornet Control Products.
