Talstar P (also known as Talstar, Talstar One or Talstar Professional) Multi-Insecticide with bifenthrin is one of the most trusted and widely-used insecticides by pest control professionals today. How Talstar P (Talstar One) Works
Talstar P is a liquid concentrate insecticide which contains bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. Pyrethroids work by disrupting an insect's nervous system causing a weakened state followed by death. Talstar P does not provide an instant knockdown of pests, rather, pests pick up the residual active ingredient by contact. Talstar P is a repellent insecticide since it acts quickly enough that social insects such as ants cannot create a pheromone trail. This means that Talstar P will be most effective as a barrier with a thorough application. Talstar P residual can last up to 3 months.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Bifenthrin 7.9%
Talstar P (Talstar One) Application Instructions
Inside, outside, and around the perimeter of structures, food handling areas, lawns, turf and ornamental trees and shrubs. NOT for use on food and vegetable gardens. Talstar is best applied with a sprayer. Always read the label completely before use!
1 pint (16 oz.) concentrate yields 16-32 gallons of finished solution.
1 quart (32 oz.) concentrate yields 32-96 gallons of finished solution.
¾ gallon (96 oz.) concentrate yields 96-192 gallons of finished solution.
1 gallon (128 oz.) concentrate yields 128-256 gallons of finished solution or covers 128,000 to 256,000 square feet for broadcast application.
Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Rates for Talstar P:
0.33 oz./gallon of water – 0.02% - prevention, low level infestions
0.5 oz./gallon of water – 0.031% – general indoor or outdoor use
1.0 oz./gallon of water - 0.06% - severe infestations, less frequent treatments, longer residual, quicker knockdown
1 gallon of finished solution should cover 1,000 square feet when using a hand pump sprayer.
*See the video above for general use mixing and application instruction using a sprayer like the Chapin premier 1 gallon sprayer.
Talstar P is for use in the following areas:
Indoors and outdoors on residential, institutional, public, commercial, and industrial buildings, greenhouses, animal confinement facilities/livestock premises, kennels, food handling establishments, and lawns, ornamentals, parks, recreational areas and athletic fields; trees, shrubs, foliage plants, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, and flowers in greenhouses, interiorscapes, including hotels, shopping malls, office buildings, etc., and outdoor plantscapes, such as around residential dwellings, parks, institutional buildings, recreational areas, athletic fields and home lawns (Non-bearing crops are perennial crops that will not produce a harvestable raw agricultural commodity during the season of application); feed and food handling establishments, animal confinement facilities, kennels, confined animal feeding operations, livestock premises, and in/around/under structures
Use 0.33 to 1 fluid oz. per gallon of water for residual pest control in buildings and structures and on modes of transport. Apply either as a crack and crevice, pinstream, spot, coarse, low pressure spray (25 psi or less) or with a paint brush.
Apply as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.
*Do not use as a space spray.
*Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices.
*Limit repeat application to no more than once per seven days.
Talstar P may be converted to a foam for residual treatment of voids or as a spot spray when visual marking of application is desired.
For bedbug control - Thorough application should be made to crack and crevices where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, boxsprings, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges, high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application. Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use. Not recommended for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use.
General application for crawling pests - Mix 0.5 or 1 oz. of Talstar P in one gallon of water and apply to the outside foundation of the home, approx. 3 feet up the side of the house and 2 feet out from the house. Also spray entry points into the home such as around windows, pipes, doorways, etc. For general preventative treatment, apply Talstar P once every 3 months.
*Repeat applications should be limited to no more than once per seven days when using 0.33 oz./gal. of water. For the high use rate of 1.0 oz. per gallon of water, do not apply more than once every four weeks.
Mosquitos - In addition to the treatment around the foundation of the home as mentioned above, spray Talstar P on the underside of leaves on the lower-hanging branches of trees around the backyard or area where mosquitoes are a problem. You can also spray the underside of leaves on shrubs and ornamentals. Do not apply when wind speed exceeds 10 MPH.
Higher application volumes may be used to obtain the desired coverage of dense vegetation or landscaping materials.
Bagworms – Use 0.125 to 0.25 oz. per 1,000 square feet (or 5.4 - 10.8 oz. per 100 gal.). Apply as a full coverage foliar spray. Use of a Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer will help reach higher into trees. Apply when larvae begin to hatch and spray larvae directly. Applications when larvae are young will be most effective.
Chinch bugs – Use 0.5 to 1.0 oz. per 1,000 square feet. Chinch Bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Irrigation of the grass area before treatment will optimize the penetration of the insecticide to the area where the chinch bugs are located. Use higher volume applications if the thatch layer is excessive or if a relatively long mowing height is being maintained. Chinch Bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher application rates (Up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) may be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the middle of the summer.
Lawn applications – A hose end sprayer like the Chapin hose end sprayer may be used to apply Talstar P for lawn pests. Use up to 1.0 oz. per 1,000 square feet. Higher volume applications may be more effective with some pests, so you may want to calibrate the sprayer to a lower rate (for example, 0.25 oz/gal.) and use more water to cover a 1,000 square foot area.
Stink Bugs – Talstar P has an expanded label for treatment of Stink Bugs indoors, outdoors, on lawns, and on ornamental plants. Use 0.33 to 1.0 oz/gal. of water and treat around door frames, window frames, vents, eaves, around the bottom of your foundation, and any other crack or crevice where an insect could gain entry, once a month August-November.
Termite Applications- Talstar P may be used for pre-construction or post-construction prevention of subterranean termites. Use 1.0 oz/gal. of water (0.06% solution) for most termite applications. For preconstruction horizontal barriers (such as under a concrete slab), use 1 gallon of solution per 10 square feet. For perimeter barrier treatments, use 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet. See our article How to Do a Termite Treatment, for further instructions on perimeter termite treatments. See product label for full instructions on using Talstar P to control subterranean termites.

*Store out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
*Concentrate should be viable for 3-5 years. If separation occurs, shake well before using.

Works better than Diazinon
By Jay on September 18, 2008
I bought a quart of Talstar One two years ago. It works better than I would've imagined. I spray around the perimeter of house about 2-3 times a year and it keeps any and all pests away. I used Diazinon before but those results pale in comparison to Talstar One. I hope you have this product for a long time to come.

Does not break down quickly in sunlight
By William on July 2, 2008
Talstar P is an excellent product because it is so persistent and does not break down. Most phosphor based products break down the moment they are expose to sunlight. This one will not. We have an open ditch behind our property that used to be the home to millions of mosquitoes - not anymore. I spray about 200 ft of the ditch in either direction twice a year, using a total of perhaps 30 oz of Talstar a year, and we have been mosquito free for three years.

We live in the high desert of Northern AZ where there are scorpions, millipedes and lots of other nasty insects. Within a matter of weeks after moving into our new house the scorpions started showing up inside the house. We have several dogs and cats and I was concerned for their safety as well as our own. A friend recommended a professional pest control company and things improved dramatically after the first treatment. We signed up for regular treatment which was every 3 months. Unfortunately, it was to their schedule which seemed to constantly change and it became extremely inconvenient for us. They would even want to spray while it was raining. The last time the pest control guy was here my husband asked what they used and the guy was more than willing to tell him that it was Talstar P. After my husband told me the name I Googled it and found DoMyOwnPestControl. We then decided to do our own pest control and not be at the mercy of someone elses schedule. It's very easy, effective and, needless to say, costs a LOT less money - one quart lasted us almost two years and cost about the same as one of the pest control company's visits. More importantly we spray at the optimum time and under the best weather conditions.

Read the directions, spray it yourself & save big!
By Karen on July 23, 2009
It seems our entire street lives on an ant hill, because we could not keep those varmints out for long. I was paying $75 per quarter for pest control in our house and outside as well. I read the directions, applied a band around the outside perimeter, windows and doorways of our home and I have not seen one bug, ant, or anything for the past 2 months. We have had rainy and exceptionally dry weather, too. I highly recommend Talstar One.

Best I have ever used!
By Umar on October 30, 2008
Talstar P (talstar one) is the best I have ever used in pest control. I swear by it.
By Sherry on December 7, 2013
Needed something to get rid of the palo verde bugs that were crawling around. Although it did not say it would kill them, it did and I am thrilled. Also got rid of unwanted crickets and other misc bugs etc. It did not smell and did no damage to anything it was sprayed on (outside of home) nor did it leave a residue. It was so easy to use. I have two dogs and kept them in until it dried and had no problems. Great product ,glad I found it. Will never use another bug spray that you buy at a brick and mortar store again. This did the job and then some.

Seems to be VERY effective
By Bruce on December 4, 2013
I treated complete exterior of our home with Telstar-P according to directions. It's difficult to guage exactly 1,000 ft for a gallon and I used a little more than I had figured. But, still have a lot left for subsequent treatments. Local Pest Control companies want about $80.00 per quarterly treatment after about $125.00 for an initial treatment. My entire order of product, pump sprayer and hose sprayer was paid for with my initial treatment! Now, I'll be saving about $320.00 in the year based upon quarterly treatments that I already have on my calendar. AND, it is really effective at killing bugs!! Great Product. So glad I did a BING search and found DoMyOwnPestControl.com!!!
Great product talstar p really works
By Rudy on December 3, 2013
I had to opportunity to use talstar p when I sprayed door away and counter areas I saw ants keep dying for days after I sprayed. I am saving what would have been multiple visits from pest control companies. Great product.

Talstar P is a great product. Easy to purchase, fast shipping, easy to follow instructions. It has been 3 weeks since my first application and I haven't seen any (live) bugs since the second day. Highly recommended.

I've used Talstar for years on a monthly basis. No problems. I only purchase from DoMyOwnPestControl and have had zero problems with orders or delivery. (I sound like a commercial!) Instructions are clear and easy to follow, mixing is quick and complete - I spray the outside perimeter of my house with a backpack and then do the same inside.

Talstar P Do My Own Pest Control
By Bill on November 9, 2013
My first use of Talstar has stopped insect infiltration within a day! I was very pleased with the control this product has. I reads to use once a month, which I will do, however, I feel it would probably last a lot long than that. A big problem here in Nevada is roaches, they find moist dark places, like the turn off valve for our water which is in a well and always moist. Once application was all I needed. Thank you!

I have a house that had a problem with roaches comming in from outside. They were small and seemed to thrive in an area covered with gravel. I spread Talstar granuals in the gravel area and sprayed around the house with the liquid. It appears to have done a great job.

Thanks for the quick shipping and awesome customer service.

June 4, 2010 James asked:
QWhat is the correct mixture of Talstar P for indoor and outdoor prevention.
The mixture would be for roaches, silverfish, and ants etc. We have tree roaches and have controlled them with a professional exterminator till now. We will use inside and outside.
AFor the initial application and in areas where pest populations are high you should use 1 oz of Talstar per gallon of water for indoor and outdoor use. For maintenance applications you can use 1/2 ounce of Talstar per gallon of water.

QShelf life of Talstar?
How long does the unused portion of the pesticide retain it's strength and effectiveness after opening?
October 15, 2010 John asked:
QIs Talstar safe near dogs and cats?
ATalstar P is safe to use around animals as long as they are out of the area while you are spraying. They can return as soon as the area is dry. Talstar P is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and will not break down easily with rainfall.
September 2, 2010 Peter asked:
QWhich product is more recommended for termites Talstar P or Termidor SC?
My home was originally treated with Talstar 72 from the builder 5 years ago.
ATermidor SC is the #1 termite product on the market. When used as an in-ground barrier treatment, Termidor SC will protect your home or business for over 10 years. Termidor SC is completely undetectable by termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony. Termidor SC controls all types of termites including subterranean, formosan, and drywood termites. Talstar P lasts for about 5 years in the ground and works as a repellent, killing only those insects that come into contact with the treated area.
March 25, 2011 Regina asked:
QWhat can I use to get rid of Kudzu bugs in GA?
I have little brown bugs all over my porch rails, side of house, windows, etc. There were a few last year, but this past weekend, I noticed many, many more. What is best to keep them away.
A"Kudzu" bugs are a type of stink bug that is an invasive species in the south and has really started to grow as a nuisance in recent years. While there isn't really a repellent product to keep them away from your home you can use a product like Talstar P to kill the bugs that land on treated surfaces. Talstar P can be diluted at a rate of 1 oz of product per gallon of water and applied using a hand pump sprayer on the areas that you mentioned (do not spray on top of porch railings where people place there hands frequently)

Geo from Miami, Fl asked:

Phil from Albany, Or asked:
QAfter mixing, how long can Talstar be stored?
Mixing directions is for 1 gallon -- did not use it all up. How long can I store it mixed in a sprayer?
A Like any other concentrate product of this sort, Talstar P needs to be used with 24-48 hours after mixing. After that point the product will start to not only break down and be less effective, but will eat at your sprayer parts as well. If you do not think you will need the full 1 gallon of solution for the area you are treating, you can cut the dilution in half and mix up only half a gallon at a time.

Rich from Gloucester Uk asked:
QHi, Can I use washing up liquid/similar to act as a surfactant for Talstar P for bird mite?
I am in the process of tidying the house and treating room by room. I have found and eliminated what I think are the sources which were vacated house sparrow and starling nests in my eaves. The house dates from 1690's so I guess this would happen sooner or later! I want to treat wooden, carpet and linoleum flooring of various types but would like the surfactant to offer more 'hold' of the chemical. I will look to retreat in 7 days to catch the life cycle.

Michelle from Massachusetts asked:
QWill Talstar kill fleas outside? How quick does it work for an infested area?
My dog keeps getting fleas outside and then carrying in house. The dog has been washed and house bombed with flea bombs but fleas keep returning.
A The best products for flea control outdoors would be Talstar P mixed with NyGuard IGR. The Talstar is the insecticide that will kill the fleas and leave a residual, and the NyGuard is the birth control that will halt the infestation from growing. Mix these in your sprayer together with water and spray any areas outdoors where you are having a problem with fleas or any other insect. After your initial application of the two products, you will respray the Talstar by itself every 2 weeks until the infestation has dropped in number, and then back off to spraying only once every 30 days. The NyGuard IGR will typically hold up to the outdoor elements for 4 months but if you have heavy rains or long periods of drought and heat, you may want to reapply again earlier than this with one of your monthly Talstar applications. For indoor control, you would use Ultracide which is a flea aerosol. It comes ready to use and has both the adulticide and igr (birth control) to provide you with the same type of control indoors as you have outdoors. You will need to go through and vacuum all flooring and furniture prior to using the product. Once vacuumed, use the Ultracide to spray down all carpets, hardwoods, baseboards, rugs, pet bedding and furniture to eliminate the fleas. After application you will leave the home until the product has had time to dry which normally takes about an hour or so. Once dry, all pets, children and adults can re-enter the home and resume normal activity. You will need to vacuum daily for 14 days and then do a second application of the Ultracide.

Syl from Ahoskie No. Car. asked:
QWhat pest control works for gnats inside and is safe for humans?
A To treat gnats indoors we recommend using the Flyweb Fly light and a crack and crevice spray like Talstar. The Flyweb will attract flying insects and then catch them with the attached glueboard. Talstar is to be applied to cracks, crevice, baseboards, entry points. Talstar is safe for people and pets to be around after the treated area has dried.

Ronald from San Bernardino, Ca asked:
QShould I mix my Talstar with the Gentrol I bought for German roach infestation
I have treated a rental home with Talstar P twice. The second time I used cy-kick on cracks and crevices then follow up with another round of talstar. I still have a significant infestation. I used to do pest control so I know how to apply these product and how to prep. I just purchased some gentrol and max force bait. I would like to know if you recommend another product to mix with the gentrol instead of the talstar.
