Fire Ant Control
Research trials and field tests conducted by industry professionals have proven that with the addition of its powerful new active ingredient (Zeta-Cypermethrin), Talstar XTRA granular insecticide eliminates fire ant colonies within four hours or less. And in some cases, the fire ant populations were decimated in minutes, not hours. At these speeds, other products can’t even come close to the control of Talstar XTRA granular insecticide.
In addition to its breakthrough active ingredient, Talstar XTRA granular insecticide has been formulated with the same long-lasting residual of Talstar PL granular insecticide, for the highly dependable control professionals have come to expect. While fire ants and other pests can be gone in as little as minutes, the residual protection of Talstar XTRA granular insecticide is proven to remain effective for at least four months.
Talstar XTRA is approved for use on a wide variety of application sites, including residential lawns, institutional grounds, around buildings (public, commercial and industrial), parks, recreational areas and athletic fields.

This product worked great... at first. Applied it correctly and it was like a nuclear bomb went off - no ants, no crickets, no anything. However, a week or so went by and the ants were back. Why? Probably because of local control. I have lots of sandy spots and those don't take to the poison well? I find the liquid talstar HARDER to apply, but it works better in all conditions. For some reason the granular works well for yards and areas with no sand, etc. The granules are also hard to spread in landscape beds. Talstar as a whole is the BEST so maybe the answer is to buy granular for the grassy areas that are usually large and hard to cover with spray and then buy the spray for the landscaping beds and sandy spots in your lawn. Either way BE CAREFUL this stuff is so toxic that in minutes lizards, crickets, and ants start to flee their hiding places and you'll find them everywhere... dead! 5 stars for the liquid Talstar for sure, 4 stars for Talstar XTRA because despite the fact it has pretty ant(s) on the packaging it is not that great for ant(s) and may not work around planting beds, near sidewalks, and/or empty patches in lawns.

It really works
By Ralph on August 20, 2011
Product is on the expensive side but works great, I have not seen an ant on my lawn since it was applied 2 weeks ago, it also seems to have killed the chinch bugs as I am seeing a change of the bald spots on my lawn.

I put the granules out around the shrubbery and foundation of the house according to directions. I used the Talstar spray a month ago on the walls of the house. My roach problem has almost been elimintated. The Roaches I do see don't feel so good. Along with most other houses in Macon, last week we had our yearly infestation of redbugs crawling everywhere - except where that I had sprayed with Talstar. Good stuff and I like the lack of odor and ease of use. Make certain you have a good spreader.

We were getting ready to have a big birthday party for the Grandson and found too many fire ants to take the chance. We used the Talstar Xtra on the recomendation of a friend who is in the pest control business. We spread 50 pounds with the lawn spreader and didn't see one ANT at the party. Great product, Thanks.

Very happy finally got rid of the cinch bugs after 3 other products only slowed them down
By Kendyll on September 20, 2014
Product shipped the next day and received it within three days of purchase. Product was easy to use and instructions were very clear on the website. Product appears to have worked exactly as advertised. Used it for mole crickets that had set up a home in my backyard and they were attracting some very unwelcome garter snakes! Now, no crickets and haven't seen a snake either! Thankfully.

Easy to spread and works on a wide array of pests. Lasts for a long time, great for quarterly customers. _a href="https://www.rodentguys.com/"_Rodent Guys Pest Control_/a_ uses this product with a spreader but need to be careful around edible plants/trees.

I have bought The regular version of this before. It worked so well I bought the stronger version this time. I have used it on ants, roaches and grubs. I recommend this product. My only disappointment is that the bugs don't look any deader than they did with the standard strength stuff.

Our lawn service has been using this on our 1 acre lot with wonderful success. If you know anything about fire ants, they are bad news. This product works really well.

I highly recommend this product for killing ants. It was expensive. It's hard to state in instructions how much poison to sprinkle on ant mound because you don't know the size of the mound.

Jeff from Fwb Fl asked:
QCan Talstar Xtra be used around fruit trees?
ATalstar Xtra Granules cannot be used around a fruit tree or vegetable garden but can safely be used in a flower garden. For frui trees and vegetable gardens you can use a product such as Sevin Granules for insect control. As long as you keep the product away from the dripline of the tree you should be able to use the Talstar Xtra granules safely around the fruit tree. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
March 14, 2010 Stacey asked:
QDoes the Talstar Granular Insecticide also help control termites?
ANo, Talstar Xtra Granules would not be a good option when treating for termites. Talstar Xtra Granules and other liquid products that are meant for pest control are applied to the surface of the ground and are really only meant for treating insects that walk across the ground. Termites enter the home from underground and never make it to the surface of the ground. Therefore, they never come into contact with the product on the surface. For proper termite protection, you have to dig a trench and place product in the trench or under the ground. For treating termites, we recommend Dominion 2L which is one of our best sellers for professional termite protection. You should also read our "How to do a Termite Treatment" article which will explain exactly how to treat for termites just like a professional company would.

Mantooth from Loudon Tn asked:
QHow would you treat mounds in a horse pasture with Talstar XTRA?
A According to the manufacturer, Talstar cannot be used in horse pastures for any purpose. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait would be a better choice for you. Extinguish plus can be used on pasture land and there are no grazing restrictions for companion animals. Below you will see the grazing info available on the Extinguish Plus product label. Extinguish Plus combines the power of hydramethylnon with an insect growth regulator (IGR) to kill fire ant workers and prevent queens from laying fertile eggs. The result is complete fire ant colony control. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is best used in the spring or early fall, or whenever fire ants are active. The ants will feed off Extinuish Plus and spread the bait throughout the entire colony, halting the infestation within weeks. Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can be used indoors and outdoors on lawns, pasture land, rangeland, landscaped areas, and golf courses. EXTINGUISH PLUS may be applied to grass forage
(pastures and rangeland) for the control of fire ants
only in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas,
Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New
Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Use on grass forage
(pastures and rangeland) in states other than those
listed is unlawful. See Outdoor Use table for
application directions. Do not exceed 8 pounds per
acre per year or more than 4 times a year, with a
minimum re-treatment interval of 90 days. Do not bale
and cut treated pastures and rangelands for 7 days
following application. These cutting and baling hay
restrictions for pasture and rangeland do not apply
when the treated pasture and rangeland is used solely
to support COMPANION ANIMALS (e.g., horses,
llamas, etc.). Companion animals grazed on treated
areas cannot be used for food or feed. EXTINGUISH®
PLUS may be used on uncultivated, agricultural, nonfood
crop and non-agricultural land.

A from Norphlet Ark asked:
QIs Tempo 1% dust good for killing flea and ticks as well? If not what products do you recommend to go with it?
We live out in the country and have wood bees out front as well as wasps. Our back yard seems to be covered with fire ants (actually there are several huge fire ant beds between us and our next door neighbor where there is approx. 200 ft or less between us) Recently while mowing my husband said hornets were popping out of the tall grass . We also have fleas, ticks, and wasps can Tempo 1% Dust get rid of all these or is there something better? Or is there another product that can be used with Tempo 1%? We live in Southern Ark/LA Thank you for your help We are desperate. PS. Product must be pet safe we have a small Chihuahua
A Tempo 1% Dust would work great on the wasps and hornets if you have located the ground nest but isn't ideal for outdoor control of fleas, ticks, or fire ants. As for the fleas, ticks, and fire ants, the Talstar XTRA granules would be a fantastic broad spectrum insecticide with a 3 month residual and quick knockdown.

Aaron from Anna, Tx asked:
QWill Talstar XTRA granules kill tarantulas and wolf spiders?
We have a massive number of tarantula burrows in our yard (almost 5 acres). None of the pest control companies in our area of North Texas treat for tarantula problems and don't even know what products to suggest to us. I know that tarantulas are considered beneficial, but I am scared to death of them and I have a 3 year old that plays outside a lot and I just want them gone!
A Unfortunately, there is nothing labeled to kill Tarantulas because they are endangered and because insecticides don't have much of an effect because of their size and hairy bodies.

Jeff from Knoxville, Tn asked:
QTalstar for roaches, or not?
In this Q&A thread, you have what seems to be conflicting information. One person asks about "Best granules to stop roaches and scorpions" and the recommended product is Talstar XTRA. Another asks "Will Talstar Xtra repel roaches?", and the response is "Talstar Xtra will not repel roaches nor is it labeled for roach control. We recommend that you stick with a product that is labeled for roaches such as Demand G granules." Can you provide a little more information to help sort this out? Thank you!
A Talstar Granules did have roaches on the product label at one time as an insect that it controlled. However, they removed roaches from the granule label because they found it wasn't as effective on roaches as they had previously thought. We recommend DeltaGard G Granules as this product is specifically labeled for cockroaches and works well at eliminating them in lawns and landscape areas.

Jason from New Orleans La asked:
QWhat is the proper setting for the speedy green 2000?
Speedy Green 2000
A Your speader setting for Talstar XTRA Granules should be either 2 3/4 for 1.15 lbs per 1,000 sq ft, 5 1/4 for 2.3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft, or 9 for 4.6 lbs per 1,000 sq ft depending on the amount of Talstar XTRA Granules needed for the specific pest.

Pk from Henderson, Nv asked:
QBest granules to stop roaches and scorpions
My exterminator spread some sort of granules around our house and it stopped the scorpions and roaches the very first night. The night before, we saw (what seemed like) a herd of roaches coming over our patio wall. Granules were spread...haven't seen another roach. What can I purchase that would have the same fantastic results? I want something known to be as effective...no trial and error, please.
Talstar Xtra is a fantastic granule. The Talstar Xtra Granule is made from a clay material that dissolves in under one minute when watered in making sure the active ingredients are delivered quickly and efficiently. As an added bonus the Verge Granule is odor-free and almost completely dustless. Plus, it has a combination of two long lasting quick acting active ingredients.

I have bird feeders throughout my property, birds squirrels and rabbits all feed. I am concerned if there is any danger of harming them by using Talstar .....Thank you
