I am very pleased with everything but the product. I saw a pest control company using a simular product and it worked extremely well. I had used another product available on this site that worked fairly well but not as well as what the pest control company used. I asked and was told it was Talstar Granules. I used the product the same way the pest control company did, but it does not kill the ants the way theirs did. The granuals they used were white and a little larger then these. I am not satisified with this product at all.

I used Talstar Xtra on over 200 accounts this spring and have had a much higher callback rate than usual. I won't be using it again. You'll probably have much better results using a liquid like Temprid or Demand.

Talstar Xtra granules were purchased based on these many reviews & to squash a fire ant problem in our backyard. I despise those suckers & we bought a new house with a decent yard, but ants abound. I want my kids to be able to enjoy their backyard & Talstar with the Xtra addition sounded like it was the solution. The transaction was seamless--Do My Own did not disappoint there. But this product surely did. Just days after receiving the bag, I followed the instructions to a t & during morning hours I treated the whole yard with a broadcast application using a Scott's spreader. Followed with a perimeter application & then fire ant mound application on a couple of mounds spotted while doing the broadcast app. The product seemed to work on the above ground mounds only. Treated the perimeter, all along my concrete backyard patio more than once & watered those granules well. Bugs of all kinds were "running for the hills" & scrambling everywhere. But still seeing ants all over the edge of the patio & they are coming from areas that were treated & even retreated after a few days. Have seen the ants traveling through the grass there & it's been over a week since the initial application. Now it is peak summertime & they likely are well into the ground in underground colonies. But they are active during morning hours & that's when we still see them everywhere. No new visible mounds though yet. That's why I'm giving it 2 stars. Disappointed I wasted my money & time on this product. Not as effective as the advertising leads you to believe--at least not in my case. I will head to my local feed store to speak to someone for advice. But this Talstar Xtra is $$$ & not the answer for fire ants.

I followed the directions of the Talstar exactly and found that it did not have optimal results. Fire ant mounds continued to pop up all throughout my property for weeks after treatment. I finally had to go back and use Demand CS to kill them all individually. It did a good job on crickets though.

Seemed to kill the fire ants in my yard for about a week but they came back with vengeance about a week later not worth the expense of broadcasting the entire yard I will go back to spot treatment with a less expensive product

I have only used it twice but it does not seem to kill the ants?

Understood this killed sod webworms, bought based on DMO's SME recommendation for those specific bugs, as well as what was supposed to be a longer lasting residual. Put out a week ago, and zero change in moth and other bug population, even had a couple of new ant beds show up. Used at the suggested "high" rate also. Applied exactly as directions indicated. The only reason I rated a 2 star vs 1 star is that the grandules are fairly large and spread easily and in a uniform pattern. Not that it matters given the results, but that's why. So, I guess I will have to go back to spraying, doesn't last long but at least it kills off the bugs for a week or so before they return.

We apologize you did not achieve the intended results. Talstar Xtra does not prevent any new ants from moving into the area but as long as they contact the treated area they will die.
