How Taurus SC Works
Taurus SC Termiticide contains the same active ingredient as the popular Termidor SC, the non-repellent Fipronil. Fipronil belongs to the phenylpyrazole family of insecticides, acting primarily as a GABA inhibitor, attacking the central nervous system of target pests. Fipronil is extremely effective, yet it works slowly enough on target insect pests to take advantage of the natural food-sharing habits of social insects, particularly termites and ants. This means that the fipronil in Taurus SC spreads throughout the entire colony, killing not just those insects that come in contact with the direct spray or residual, but all the others they contact, resulting in colony elimination.
Subterranean termites, ants, cockroaches, occasional perimeter invaders
PESTS CONTROLLED: Ants (acrobat, Argentine, big-headed, carpenter, crazy, odorous, pavement, pharaoh, thief), Asian lady beetles, darkling beetles, Australian cockroaches, Oriental cockroaches, smoky brown cockroaches, Black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, cellar spiders, hobo spiders, Box-elder bugs, Pill bugs, Brown and dog ticks, Centipedes, Cluster flies, European earwigs, House crickets, Millipedes, Paper wasps (NOT a knockdown agent), Silverfish, Yellow jackets, Subterranean termites (including Reticulitermes, Zootermopsis, Heterotermes, Coptotermes)
Taurus SC is a generic version of Termidor SC, the termiticide most widely used by professional pest control companies. Taurus SC is designed for the prevention and treatment of termite infestations, and it can be applied either pre-construction or post-construction. Taurus SC is also labeled for the outdoor perimeter control of many common invaders, most effectively for ants. Because of its efficacy and longevity, termite treatments with Taurus SC may last up to 10 years, and outdoor perimeter treatments only need to be applied twice per year. Taurus SC may also be used in structural wall voids to treat active subterranean termite and ant infestations. Taurus SC is not for general indoor use.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Fipronil 9.1%
Taurus SC Application Instructions
Always read the product label completely before use.
Outside Barrier Treatment:
The main use for Taurus SC is for protection against subterranean termite infestations. To accomplish this, an outside barrier treatment is made in the ground around the foundation of the home that will protect against termites for up to 10 years or more.
First, you will need to dig a 6 inches deep x 6 inches wide trench around the outside foundation wall of the home. Next, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply at a rate of 4 mixed gallons per every 10 lineal feet of trench. It is best to use a 5 gallon bucket and mark off the 4 gallon line, then mix 4 gallons of Taurus SC at a time and pour it in the trench. Allow the solution to soak into the soil and then replace the back-fill, making sure that the back-fill is soaked with Taurus SC as well. When you are done, you should have one contiguous in-ground barrier of Taurus SC all the way around the home.
Treating across slabs of concrete touching the house (such as a back patio or front porch) can be accomplished by using a hammer drill with a 1/2-inch drill bit. Holes are drilled through the concrete approximately 3-4 inches out from the house and every 12 inches across the concrete slab. Please see the product label for more information.
For more information please see the article: How to do a Termite Treatment.
Each 20 oz. bottle of concentrate yields 25 gallons of finished solution. Each 78 oz. bottle of concentrate yields 97 gallons of finished solution.
Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Ratios for Taurus SC
- 0.8 fl. oz. (24 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.06% a.i. – most applications, ground termite treatments, ant or other perimeter pest control.
- 1.2 fl. oz. (35 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.09% a.i. – may be used for active infestations or severe termite pressure.
- 1.6 oz. (47 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.125% a.i. – areas of dense soil that will not accept a rate of 4 gal. per 10 linear feet; only use 2 gal. per 10 linear feet per foot of depth.
- Apply at a rate of 4 gallons of finished solution per 10 linear feet for perimeter termite applications.
- Apply at a rate of 1-1.5 gallon(s) of finished solution per 10 square feet of horizontal ground that will be under concrete slabs (pre-construction).
- For perimeter pest treatments (ants, etc.), apply 2 quarts of 0.06% spray per 160 lineal feet.
Taurus SC is for use in the following areas:
Outside surfaces and along foundation of Residential, institutional, commercial and industrial buildings and utility enclosures; wall voids of listed structures; NOT for indoor use; for pre-construction and post-construction treatment for termites, including concrete structures such as patios, porches, sidewalks and foundation slabs; concrete slab (including monolithic, floating and supported concrete slabs) on ground or in basements; hollow block foundations or voids in masonry; structures with French drains and sump pumps; basement structures; crawl spaces; around bath traps and shower drains; posts, poles, and wood landscape ornamentation
Taurus SC is not for Indoor use. The only permitted use indoors is for active ant or termite infestations in wall voids only.
Treating Live Termite Infestations above ground:
To control Aerial termite colonies or Drywood Termites, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply to infested wooden members or voids. To treat inaccessible areas (for example, if the termite infestation is behind dry wall), drill and inject Taurus SC into the damaged wood of void spaces with a crack and crevice injector. Foam applications can also be made into void spaces.
Termite Control – See general directions above. See our article How to Do a Termite Treatment for more details.
How to Use Taurus SC for Ant Control:
For outdoor control of Ants and other perimeter pests, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply using a hand-pump sprayer around the outside of the home, spraying 1 foot up the side of the house and 1 foot out from the house, all the way around the home. Also spray around any exterior openings where pests may enter such as doors (don't spray near door handles), windows, pipes, cracks, vents, holes, etc. Make sure to treat the joint where exterior siding (wood, vinyl, aluminum or other similar materials) meets the cement, brick or block foundation. Treat anywhere electrical, cable or telephone wires enter the house. This application should be made only twice per year, in the Spring and Fall. Taurus SC works well enough that only 2 applications per year are needed for effective control.
Also be careful to prune away vegetation including shrubs and tree branches that may be touching the side of the house. This will keep pests from using shrubs and tree branches to bypass the protective barrier you sprayed.
Taurus SC Termiticide Features
- The same amount of Fipronil as Termidor SC for less.
- Easier, faster, and more effective than termite bait stations.
- Foam applications may be made in voids for above ground termite infestations.
- Water-based suspension.
- Broad labeling for control of perimeter pests.
- Convenient tip-and-pour bottle eliminates the need for other measuring equipment.
- Do not make applications when precipitation is occurring.
- Do not treat soil that is water-saturated or frozen.
- Do not apply Taurus SC in any way that may contaminate a water source or within 5 feet of a well or cistern. Treatment within 5-10 feet of wells or cisterns must be done by backfill method only (removing the dirt to be treated and replacing it after it has been treated elsewhere or in a container such as a wheelbarrow).
- Do not treat edible vegetation or treat within one food out from the drip line of edible plants.
- Do not exceed 2 applications per year for perimeter pests.
- Do not apply to pet quarters or to playground equipment.

This is a 9.1% suspension of the same active ingredient in Frontline used for treatment against fleas and ticks on domestic animals. It is a non-repelling insecticide. Following the directions for termite treatment I trenched at the perimeter of my home, sprayed and put the dirt back in. I also treated my beech trees by selective injection along the drip lines and allow the root system to translocate the product up the trunks and branches of the trees. This way I avoided unnecessary and indiscriminate killing of beneficial insects such as honey bees. The product works great. It has been two years since I treated my property. So far no signs of harm to good insects because my flowering trees and plants are pollenating just fine. I have no carpenter ants in my yard. Two years carpenter ants were very active. I have recommended this product to my homeowner's association and we are actively trying to save our neighborhood beech trees from the impending woolly beech aphid invasion. One word of caution, follow the directions and apply the product just before insects are actively foraging.

IT WORKS!!! Three days after the perimeter of my house was sprayed, no more ants! In twelve years Taurus SC is the only thing that has even touched the ant problem. Now they're gone!

This product is very handy to use with the squeezable pre-measured dispenser with separate cap. It allows the user to measure small amounts to apply in tight spaces when a watering can is used and only one or two gallons are needed at a time. Complete instructions are attached to the bottle so you always have them handy for reference. The same stuff the professionals use at a fraction of the cost!

The termidor brand really works, so I hope this will to. I spray around three different houses every three months and never have ants. Before, I had them all the time no matter what I sprayed with.

It's only been a week or 2 since we used the product. We bought it obviously to kill/prevent termites but since it said it kills ants we were excited about that since ants seem to be in excess this year. Well so far it hasn't killed the ants they just keep crawling across the surface even though we dug trenches all around the house and sprayed the top surface twice. I'm hoping it works soon and I would reconsider upping my review rating when or if that happens. At this point though if it doesn't kill the ants I'm not confident that it will kill or prevent termites and afraid I wasted my money.
Please be sure you r expectations are in line with how the product works. Taurus is undetectable to ants so they will readily cross over treated areas. In can take 3-4 weeks to see an ant population start to be effected by the product, Ant treatment are much different than termite treatments. You must treat 2 ft up foundation, 2 ft out onto ground and around windows, doors nd other entry points. Have you treated these areas? Please let us know.

Saved me 1700$
By Nelson in madera ca on 03/10/2016
had a reputable nation wide pest control chain come out and quote me 2 grand to do the job i read the report and it said the removal method was Taurus SC @195 linear feet of house I bought double that to be sure and still saved $1700 even after buying a foamer do do the interior spots in addition to the perimeter (tip) save yourself some time and get a small cup and measure out the 4 x 0.8 ounces mark it and use that for mixing to avoid having to keep squeezing the bottle every time you make a bucket worth of dilution

Taurus SC 78oz.
By Melina in Ambridge, PA on 06/02/2014
This product worked great for treating termites. We treated the entire perimeter of our house with it and so far we have not seen any termites. It has only been less than a month but so far it's worked wonderful! The 78 oz bottle was exactly enough to treat the whole house. It's definitely worth buying this size especially because the price was extremely fair! I am an extremely satisfied customer and highly recommend using this instead of paying and arm and a leg to have professionals come and do it! Thank you!!

Taurus SC Termiticide
By Andrew in Woodbine, Maryland on 02/14/2014
Excellent product. Fast working and very, very effective. I sprayed exterior of house and yard, wetting but not soaking the area, in the afternoon and next morning there were at least 500 dead carpenter ants outside and inside my garage. There were more the next day and they kept dying for several days until there were no more. Professional company wanted $450 - $500 for what cost me about $50. I also located the inground satellite nests and lightly sprayed them and they too were exterminated. This spring/summer I'll use it on my fence posts. I should add, my experience with this company has also been excellent. They are very helpful assisting you in buying the right product(s) and when I returned a couple of items - bought to much - my credit card was credited quickly. I will continue to buy from them and I'm going to recommend them to a friend in Ohio who posted an inquiry on Facebook if any BF''s knew of an effective ant pesticide.

Best for a pest free home.
By in Kissimme, Fl on 07/25/2013
I used Termidor for a few years and it always performed perfectly. Taurus is the generic version and works great. Every home I treated (my home and rental in Florida, and my family's homes in the Philippines) has stayed pest free for years. No termite, no ants, no cockroahes, no silver fish, nada. It is not a kill on contact so maybe those who say they "sprayed it on a bug and the bug just swam in it" have no idea how it works.

Amazing kill speed and rate
By Alex in port st lucie, Florida on 09/13/2012
I bought this to hopefully eliminate a carpenter ant infestation in the eaves of my house, the ants were walking 250ft along my new chainlink fence, climbing across my firebush bushes and then up the wall into the eaves, nothing seemed to work, so i bought taurus and some delta dust with a duster. the day it arrived there was another ant infestation coming from under my deck and getting under a slab by my back door, some were getting into the house, these werent carpenter ants. I sprayed the diluted product around my deck and also around the perimeter of the house, i also sprayed the fence and up the wall and around the eaves. the next morning there were literally thousands of dead ants on my back door step, it looked like a balnket of old rust!!, WOW! is all i can say, all the carpenter ants are gone too!, i havent needed to dust at all, but i will as a precaution. this product is the same as termidor but cheaper, worth every penny! i also bought some ant bait traps and plan to make my own borax, sugar, peanut butter solution if i see ants in the house. outside right now its eerily absent of any kind of bugs! I used 1.5 gallons of diluted product for the whole perimeter of my 2050sq ft house, 1ft up the walls, 1ft out, i also removed the firebush from around the house completely to eradicate ant bridges, i now just have mulch and some nice purple bedding plants set away from the walls, i sprayed after putting the mulch down. I really am quite staggered by the effectiveness of the taurus sc, i was sick and tired of paying $10-$15 a month for products that just didnt work at all. BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE ANTS!!

Almost like magic.
By Mike in Marshall, MN on 07/28/2012
This stuff is incredible. When I first received it I put it away and thought I wouldn't need it for awhile. The sweet ants were no longer coming into the house, even though they were still plentiful on my paver block patios. Then, larger ants started coming in. I laid out a blockade of Tero poison and that seemed to keep them from going any farther than by the window. I then proceeded to mix up the Taurus and at 7:00 a.m. I sprayed it around the perimeter of both the rear and front patios. At noon, I read the online instructions and saw that I was supposed to also spray where the siding meets the house and around where wiring and pipes come into the house. I mixed up another gallon and sprayed some more. At 7:00 that evening, I could find just 1 ant on my patios. The next day, I spotted just 2 in the morning. By early evening I couldn't find any. I had a hard time believing it could work that fast. I then checked at the end of my driveway, where I didn't spray of course, and there I found plenty of ants. Yesterday, about 1 1/2 weeks after i sprayed, I saw a couple dozen sweet ants on the rear patio. I was worried I might have to spray again. However, this morning I was able to find just one lonely ant remaining. I have a friend that is having the same problem. Guess what I recommended? All in all, this is a great company to work with. They respond to emails within hours, and phone service, when you can get thru, is also excellent. They really seem to know their stuff. I can't thank them enough. I believe my ant problems are over. Finally.

QCan I use Gravel/crushed rock for the backfill after treatment?
After digging the trench and treating the whole house for termites can i use crushed rock/gravel foe the backfill? For ease of future treatments instead of digging the trench again in 5-10 years couldn't we just pour through the gravel?
AYou do not want to use grave/crushed rock as your backfill after a termite treatment. Termidor does not bond to rock, it bonds to soil, so if you fill in the trench with gravel, the termidor will not stick to it and it will leave you with a 6x6 area of completely unprotected surface that the termites could pass through to get directly to your home. We understand that the digging of the trench is a pain, but it must be done each time and it must be backfilled with dirt, and the dirt that is backfilled must be treated as well if you want your home properly and completely protected.

QWill Taurus SC annihilate termites nests already in the house ?
I'm wondering if termites in the house regularly leave the house, crossing the barrier, and then return to nest.
A When you have an active infestation of termites in the home you will need to treat that infestation directly and Taurus SC can be used for this. You will need to drill directly into the wood they are infesting and spray the product into the gallery where the termites actively are. It is also recommended to trench around the perimeter of the home. †We have a step by step guide that will walk you through how to do your own termite trenching treatment. You can see the guide by clicking on the link here.

QPerimeter trench every 10 years for termites vs. ant perimeter treatment every 6 months
Per the instructions, a perimeter treatement in a trench is recommended for termite prevention, vs. a perimeter treatment (above-ground, as I understand) is recommended twice a year for ant treatment. I suspected that ants are entering my house from below the ground through cracks in the concrete slab. Would the trenched perimeter treatment every 10 yeears be effective for BOTH termites and ants?
AA trench treatment with Taurus SC will kill both termites and ants that travel through the treated soil. However, if the ant or termite colony is located directly under the slab of your home there is a possibility that they may not pass through the treated soil around the perimeter of your home as they come through a crack in the foundation. In order to kill ant or termite colonies located under the slab we would recommend drilling through the cracks in the foundation and inject the Taurus SC into the soil below foundation. You would drill a hole every 12 inches along the crack in the slab and use 4 gallons of the diluted Taurus solution per 10 linear feet.

QWhat application method is best for treatment of ants?
To treat ghost ants crawling around, on, and into my foundation, should I trench or just apply a perimeter spray? If the latter, what application rate should be used (i.e., how many fl. oz. per linear foot of a spray band three feet up the wall and one foot out from the foundation)? Thanks
03/17/2014 Dale from Sun City West, Arizona
QHow could I inject your Taurus SC termiticide above the baseboard?
I have trenched outside, but found termites in one area yet. What is your suggestion? Thanks.
APerforming the trench treatment with Taurus on the outside of the house will kill the termites that are already in your home along with the colony that is in the ground. Termites that are above the ground in the house when you perform an in ground Taurus treatment will die when they go back down to the ground. Termites in your walls don't stay there. Their job is to eat the wood, the colony's food, and then they take it back underground to feed the rest of the colony below the ground where the queen is. The termites go up and down, up and down, up and down, every day. So when you perform a liquid termite treatment, the termites that are below the surface that have not made it up into the house yet will take the Taurus on their bodies up into the house and spread it around to all the termites, and vice versa, any termites up in the walls heading down to take what they have eaten down to the queen and other colony members will have to go through the Taurus barrier you installed and they will become infected at that point as well. It is not necessary to perform a spot treatment inside but you can if you so choose. When injecting Taurus into the walls you want to drill about 6 inches from the floor surface and between every wooden stud down the entire length of the wall. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
10/19/2013 Gary from Ocean Springs, Ms. 3956
QWhich is best for new home foundation? Taurus or Termidor?
ATermidor SC and Taurus SC are pretty much the same product, they are just made by different companies. They will both provide the same essential results when applied as directed on the product label.

QCan Taurus be used as a "spot on" treatment for fleas on dogs like Frontline is used?
