Taurus SC Termiticide

New! Taurus SC with 9.1% Fipronil (the same amount of a.i. as the popular Termidor SC) provides best-in-class control of termites, ants and a wide variety of other insect pests including spiders, roaches, ticks and many more.  Taurus SC is a non-repellent insecticide that is undetectable to target pests, allowing them touch, ingest and spread the insecticide throughout the entire colony.  For termites, Taurus SC will eliminate termite colonies in less than 90 days on average, and ant infestations can be controlled in just a few weeks.

Taurus SC is labeled for OUTDOOR USE ONLY.  The only exception is for indoor spot treatments inside wall voids for termites.
Please follow all label directions carefully before use. Taurus is not labeled for use directly on pets

How Taurus SC Works

Taurus SC Termiticide contains the same active ingredient as the popular Termidor SC, the non-repellent Fipronil. Fipronil belongs to the phenylpyrazole family of insecticides, acting primarily as a GABA inhibitor, attacking the central nervous system of target pests. Fipronil is extremely effective, yet it works slowly enough on target insect pests to take advantage of the natural food-sharing habits of social insects, particularly termites and ants. This means that the fipronil in Taurus SC spreads throughout the entire colony, killing not just those insects that come in contact with the direct spray or residual, but all the others they contact, resulting in colony elimination.

Target Pests

Subterranean termites, ants, cockroaches, occasional perimeter invaders

PESTS CONTROLLED: Ants (acrobat, Argentine, big-headed, carpenter, crazy, odorous, pavement, pharaoh, thief), Asian lady beetles, darkling beetles, Australian cockroaches, Oriental cockroaches, smoky brown cockroaches, Black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, cellar spiders, hobo spiders, Box-elder bugs, Pill bugs, Brown and dog ticks, Centipedes, Cluster flies, European earwigs, House crickets, Millipedes, Paper wasps (NOT a knockdown agent), Silverfish, Yellow jackets, Subterranean termites (including Reticulitermes, Zootermopsis, Heterotermes, Coptotermes)

Target Uses

Taurus SC is a generic version of Termidor SC, the termiticide most widely used by professional pest control companies. Taurus SC is designed for the prevention and treatment of termite infestations, and it can be applied either pre-construction or post-construction. Taurus SC is also labeled for the outdoor perimeter control of many common invaders, most effectively for ants. Because of its efficacy and longevity, termite treatments with Taurus SC may last up to 10 years, and outdoor perimeter treatments only need to be applied twice per year.  Taurus SC may also be used in structural wall voids to treat active subterranean termite and ant infestations. Taurus SC is not for general indoor use.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Fipronil 9.1%

Taurus SC Application Instructions

Always read the product label completely before use.

Outside Barrier Treatment:

The main use for Taurus SC is for protection against subterranean termite infestations.  To accomplish this, an outside barrier treatment is made in the ground around the foundation of the home that will protect against termites for up to 10 years or more.

First, you will need to dig a 6 inches deep x 6 inches wide trench around the outside foundation wall of the home. Next, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply at a rate of 4 mixed gallons per every 10 lineal feet of trench.  It is best to use a 5 gallon bucket and mark off the 4 gallon line, then mix 4 gallons of Taurus SC at a time and pour it in the trench.  Allow the solution to soak into the soil and then replace the back-fill, making sure that the back-fill is soaked with Taurus SC as well. When you are done, you should have one contiguous in-ground barrier of Taurus SC all the way around the home.

Treating across slabs of concrete touching the house (such as a back patio or front porch) can be accomplished by using a hammer drill with a 1/2-inch drill bit.  Holes are drilled through the concrete approximately 3-4 inches out from the house and every 12 inches across the concrete slab.  Please see the product label for more information.

For more information please see the article: How to do a Termite Treatment

Each 20 oz. bottle of concentrate yields 25 gallons of finished solution. Each 78 oz. bottle of concentrate yields 97 gallons of finished solution.

Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Ratios for Taurus SC

*0.8 fl. oz. (24 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.06% a.i. – most applications, ground termite treatments, ant or other perimeter pest control

*1.2 fl. oz. (35 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.09% a.i. – may be used for active infestations or severe termite pressure

*1.6 oz. (47 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.125% a.i. – areas of dense soil that will not accept a rate of 4 gal. per 10 linear feet; only use 2 gal. per 10 linear feet per foot of depth

*Apply at a rate of 4 gallons of finished solution per 10 linear feet for perimeter termite applications.

*Apply at a rate of 1-1.5 gallon(s) of finished solution per 10 square feet of horizontal ground that will be under concrete slabs (pre-construction)

*For perimeter pest treatments (ants, etc.), apply 2 quarts of 0.06% spray per 160 lineal feet.

Taurus SC is for use in the following areas:

Outside surfaces and along foundation of Residential, institutional, commercial and industrial buildings and utility enclosures; wall voids of listed structures; NOT for indoor use; for pre-construction and post-construction treatment for termites, including concrete structures such as patios, porches, sidewalks and foundation slabs; concrete slab (including monolithic, floating and supported concrete slabs) on ground or in basements; hollow block foundations or voids in masonry; structures with French drains and sump pumps; basement structures; crawl spaces; around bath traps and shower drains; posts, poles, and wood landscape ornamentation

Indoors-

Taurus SC is not for Indoor use. The only permitted use indoors is for active ant or termite infestations in wall voids only.

Treating Live Termite Infestations above ground:
To control Aerial termite colonies or Drywood Termites, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply to infested wooden members or voids.  To treat inaccessible areas (for example, if the termite infestation is behind dry wall), drill and inject Taurus SC into the damaged wood of void spaces with a crack and crevice injector.  Foam applications can also be made into void spaces.

Outdoors-

Termite Control – See general directions above. See our article How to Do a Termite Treatment for more details.

How to Use Taurus SC for Ant Control:

For outdoor control of Ants and other perimeter pests, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply using a hand-pump sprayer around the outside of the home, spraying 1 foot up the side of the house and 1 foot out from the house, all the way around the home.  Also spray around any exterior openings where pests may enter such as doors (don't spray near door handles), windows, pipes, cracks, vents, holes, etc. Make sure to treat the joint where exterior siding (wood, vinyl, aluminum or other similar materials) meets the cement, brick or block foundation. Treat anywhere electrical, cable or telephone wires enter the house.  This application should be made only twice per year, in the Spring and Fall.  Taurus SC works well enough that only 2 applications per year are needed for effective control.

Also be careful to prune away vegetation including shrubs and tree branches that may be touching the side of the house. This will keep pests from using shrubs and tree branches to bypass the protective barrier you sprayed.

Taurus SC Termiticide Features

*The same amount of Fipronil as Termidor SC for less

*Easier, faster, and more effective than termite bait stations

*Foam applications may be made in voids for above ground termite infestations.

*Water-based suspension

*Broad labeling for control of perimeter pests

*Convenient tip-and-pour bottle eliminates the need for other measuring equipment.

Extra Tips

*Do not make applications when precipitation is occurring.

*Do not treat soil that is water-saturated or frozen.

*Do not apply Taurus SC in any way that may contaminate a water source or within 5 feet of a well or cistern. Treatment within 5-10 feet of wells or cisterns must be done by backfill method only (removing the dirt to be treated and replacing it after it has been treated elsewhere or in a container such as a wheelbarrow).

*Do not treat edible vegetation or treat within one food out from the drip line of edible plants.

*Do not exceed 2 applications per year for perimeter pests.

*Do not apply to pet quarters or to playground equipment.

IT WORKS!!! Three days after the perimeter of my house was sprayed, no more ants! In twelve years Taurus SC is the only thing that has even touched the ant problem. Now they're gone!

By Tim on November 7, 2011

This product is very handy to use with the squeezable pre-measured dispenser with separate cap. It allows the user to measure small amounts to apply in tight spaces when a watering can is used and only one or two gallons are needed at a time. Complete instructions are attached to the bottle so you always have them handy for reference. The same stuff the professionals use at a fraction of the cost!

5 of 5 Stars  Taurus SC
By Wally on June 12, 2012

This is a 9.1% suspension of the same active ingredient in Frontline used for treatment against fleas and ticks on domestic animals. It is a non-repelling insecticide. Following the directions for termite treatment I trenched at the perimeter of my home, sprayed and put the dirt back in. I also treated my beech trees by selective injection along the drip lines and allow the root system to translocate the product up the trunks and branches of the trees. This way I avoided unnecessary and indiscriminate killing of beneficial insects such as honey bees. The product works great. It has been two years since I treated my property. So far no signs of harm to good insects because my flowering trees and plants are pollenating just fine. I have no carpenter ants in my yard. Two years carpenter ants were very active. I have recommended this product to my homeowner's association and we are actively trying to save our neighborhood beech trees from the impending woolly beech aphid invasion. One word of caution, follow the directions and apply the product just before insects are actively foraging.

5 of 5 Stars  Great Company
By David on June 20, 2014

This is my 2nd order of Taurus SC. I underestimated my quantity need on the first online order. Called the Company to order an additional bottle. Young lady on the phone was very polite, helpful and efficient. My 2nd order arrived in about 3 days, and I was able to complete the treatment. Based on quotes I received for termite control, I figure I saved $700 or more over the next few years. Took a little effort, but well worth it.

5 of 5 Stars  Very effective ant killer
By Bryan on June 10, 2014

I used this as a prevention product and on an active ant problem. I had loads of tiny ants building nest in the black top driveway cracks and a rather large carpenter ant hill in the side yard. They weren't in the home, but have had their way with some soft maples more than likely. I simply mixed one gallon as directed in an empty milk jug and ended the ant infestations in mere minutes. One treatment and not a single ant has been seen. No new hills and only holes in the ground of the former carpenter ant colony. Should have moved to the neighbors with the dog that craps in my yard. Do you guys make a product for that?

    5 of 5 Stars  Taurus SC 78oz.
By Melina on June 2, 2014

This product worked great for treating termites. We treated the entire perimeter of our house with it and so far we have not seen any termites. It has only been less than a month but so far it's worked wonderful! The 78 oz bottle was exactly enough to treat the whole house. It's definitely worth buying this size especially because the price was extremely fair! I am an extremely satisfied customer and highly recommend using this instead of paying and arm and a leg to have professionals come and do it! Thank you!!

April 18, 2014 Jeff from Baton Rouge, La asked:

QHow to i protect my home where i have wood porches against house preventing trenching?
I've got 700 square feet of pressure treated wood porches running the full width of my house on the front and rear. These block my access to trench and treat the soil on roughly 1/2 of the perimiter of my house. They're very low (2-6" off of the ground). Unfortunately the boards run perpendicular to the house so removing them to gain access to the soil for treatment would mean almost complete disassembly and rebuild of the porches. Could I treat these in the same manner as a concrete porch? Drill down through the porch every 1' near the slab with a long bit and then feed a pump sprayer wand down the hole to inject the solution?

A While trenching is always the best option for full protection, something is always going to be better than nothing. If you can drill through and treat the area like you would a concrete slab, this would be great to do. You will want to pour heavier amounts of the product into the holes and even down the side of the foundation between it and the first plank to try and soak the soil below for better coverage. If you do this you should be able to adequately protect the home. If the home is on a crawl space i would suggest going under the home and trenching on the inner wall of the crawl space as well.

March 17, 2014 Dale from Sun City West, Arizona asked:

QHow could I inject your Taurus SC termiticide above the baseboard?
I have trenched outside, but found termites in one area yet. What is your suggestion? Thanks.

A Performing the trench treatment with Taurus on the outside of the house will kill the termites that are already in your home along with the colony that is in the ground. Termites that are above the ground in the house when you perform an in ground Taurus treatment will die when they go back down to the ground.  Termites in your walls don't stay there.  Their job is to eat the wood, the colony's food, and then they take it back underground to feed the rest of the colony below the ground where the queen is.  The termites go up and down, up and down, up and down, every day.  So when you perform a liquid termite treatment, the termites that are below the surface that have not made it up into the house yet will take the Taurus on their bodies up into the house and spread it around to all the termites, and vice versa, any termites up in the walls heading down to take what they have eaten down to the queen and other colony members will have to go through the Taurus barrier you installed and they will become infected at that point as well. It is not necessary to perform a spot treatment inside but you can if you so choose. When injecting Taurus into the walls you want to drill about 6 inches from the floor surface and between every wooden stud down the entire length of the wall. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

A Taurus SC may be less effective if frozen in a garage. QCrawl space treatment
We have a crawl space under our house. I learned from your website, how to do the trenching-treatment around the house. How do you treat the crawl space. We have house sitting on concrete blocks.

A For a termite treatment, you will want to trench around and treat the soil surrounding any part of your home that touches the ground. This mens that you would treat the crawlspace area the same as you would around the exterior of your home. Dig a 6x6 inch deep trench around any post or cinder blocks in the crawlspace and pour the Taurus SC mixture into that soil.

August 6, 2013 Kyle from Madison, Ms asked:

QCan I mix Suspend SC and Taurus SC in the same spray apparatus so that I can put out at one time.

A Taurus SC is a non-repellent insecticide. This means that ants and other insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. Taurus SC also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows the ants time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Suspend SC on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Ants may avoid the areas treated with Suspend and those ants that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Suspend does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Taurus SC will not actually be deactivated by Suspend, it will be much less effective if it is sprayed with Suspend.
