How Taurus SC Works
Taurus SC Termiticide contains the same active ingredient as the popular Termidor SC, the non-repellent Fipronil. Fipronil belongs to the phenylpyrazole family of insecticides, acting primarily as a GABA inhibitor, attacking the central nervous system of target pests. Fipronil is extremely effective, yet it works slowly enough on target insect pests to take advantage of the natural food-sharing habits of social insects, particularly termites and ants. This means that the fipronil in Taurus SC spreads throughout the entire colony, killing not just those insects that come in contact with the direct spray or residual, but all the others they contact, resulting in colony elimination.
Subterranean termites, ants, cockroaches, occasional perimeter invaders
PESTS CONTROLLED: Ants (acrobat, Argentine, big-headed, carpenter, crazy, odorous, pavement, pharaoh, thief), Asian lady beetles, darkling beetles, Australian cockroaches, Oriental cockroaches, smoky brown cockroaches, Black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, cellar spiders, hobo spiders, Box-elder bugs, Pill bugs, Brown and dog ticks, Centipedes, Cluster flies, European earwigs, House crickets, Millipedes, Paper wasps (NOT a knockdown agent), Silverfish, Yellow jackets, Subterranean termites (including Reticulitermes, Zootermopsis, Heterotermes, Coptotermes)
Taurus SC is a generic version of Termidor SC, the termiticide most widely used by professional pest control companies. Taurus SC is designed for the prevention and treatment of termite infestations, and it can be applied either pre-construction or post-construction. Taurus SC is also labeled for the outdoor perimeter control of many common invaders, most effectively for ants. Because of its efficacy and longevity, termite treatments with Taurus SC may last up to 10 years, and outdoor perimeter treatments only need to be applied twice per year. Taurus SC may also be used in structural wall voids to treat active subterranean termite and ant infestations. Taurus SC is not for general indoor use.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Fipronil 9.1%
Taurus SC Application Instructions
Always read the product label completely before use.
Outside Barrier Treatment:
The main use for Taurus SC is for protection against subterranean termite infestations. To accomplish this, an outside barrier treatment is made in the ground around the foundation of the home that will protect against termites for up to 10 years or more.
First, you will need to dig a 6 inches deep x 6 inches wide trench around the outside foundation wall of the home. Next, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply at a rate of 4 mixed gallons per every 10 lineal feet of trench. It is best to use a 5 gallon bucket and mark off the 4 gallon line, then mix 4 gallons of Taurus SC at a time and pour it in the trench. Allow the solution to soak into the soil and then replace the back-fill, making sure that the back-fill is soaked with Taurus SC as well. When you are done, you should have one contiguous in-ground barrier of Taurus SC all the way around the home.
Treating across slabs of concrete touching the house (such as a back patio or front porch) can be accomplished by using a hammer drill with a 1/2-inch drill bit. Holes are drilled through the concrete approximately 3-4 inches out from the house and every 12 inches across the concrete slab. Please see the product label for more information.
For more information please see the article: How to do a Termite Treatment.
Each 20 oz. bottle of concentrate yields 25 gallons of finished solution. Each 78 oz. bottle of concentrate yields 97 gallons of finished solution.
Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Ratios for Taurus SC
*0.8 fl. oz. (24 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.06% a.i. – most applications, ground termite treatments, ant or other perimeter pest control
*1.2 fl. oz. (35 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.09% a.i. – may be used for active infestations or severe termite pressure
*1.6 oz. (47 mL)/ gal. of water – 0.125% a.i. – areas of dense soil that will not accept a rate of 4 gal. per 10 linear feet; only use 2 gal. per 10 linear feet per foot of depth
*Apply at a rate of 4 gallons of finished solution per 10 linear feet for perimeter termite applications.
*Apply at a rate of 1-1.5 gallon(s) of finished solution per 10 square feet of horizontal ground that will be under concrete slabs (pre-construction)
*For perimeter pest treatments (ants, etc.), apply 2 quarts of 0.06% spray per 160 lineal feet.
Taurus SC is for use in the following areas:
Outside surfaces and along foundation of Residential, institutional, commercial and industrial buildings and utility enclosures; wall voids of listed structures; NOT for indoor use; for pre-construction and post-construction treatment for termites, including concrete structures such as patios, porches, sidewalks and foundation slabs; concrete slab (including monolithic, floating and supported concrete slabs) on ground or in basements; hollow block foundations or voids in masonry; structures with French drains and sump pumps; basement structures; crawl spaces; around bath traps and shower drains; posts, poles, and wood landscape ornamentation
Taurus SC is not for Indoor use. The only permitted use indoors is for active ant or termite infestations in wall voids only.
Treating Live Termite Infestations above ground:
To control Aerial termite colonies or Drywood Termites, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply to infested wooden members or voids. To treat inaccessible areas (for example, if the termite infestation is behind dry wall), drill and inject Taurus SC into the damaged wood of void spaces with a crack and crevice injector. Foam applications can also be made into void spaces.
Termite Control – See general directions above. See our article How to Do a Termite Treatment for more details.
How to Use Taurus SC for Ant Control:
For outdoor control of Ants and other perimeter pests, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply using a hand-pump sprayer around the outside of the home, spraying 1 foot up the side of the house and 1 foot out from the house, all the way around the home. Also spray around any exterior openings where pests may enter such as doors (don't spray near door handles), windows, pipes, cracks, vents, holes, etc. Make sure to treat the joint where exterior siding (wood, vinyl, aluminum or other similar materials) meets the cement, brick or block foundation. Treat anywhere electrical, cable or telephone wires enter the house. This application should be made only twice per year, in the Spring and Fall. Taurus SC works well enough that only 2 applications per year are needed for effective control.
Also be careful to prune away vegetation including shrubs and tree branches that may be touching the side of the house. This will keep pests from using shrubs and tree branches to bypass the protective barrier you sprayed.
Taurus SC Termiticide Features
*The same amount of Fipronil as Termidor SC for less
*Easier, faster, and more effective than termite bait stations
*Foam applications may be made in voids for above ground termite infestations.
*Broad labeling for control of perimeter pests
*Convenient tip-and-pour bottle eliminates the need for other measuring equipment.
*Do not make applications when precipitation is occurring.
*Do not treat soil that is water-saturated or frozen.
*Do not apply Taurus SC in any way that may contaminate a water source or within 5 feet of a well or cistern. Treatment within 5-10 feet of wells or cisterns must be done by backfill method only (removing the dirt to be treated and replacing it after it has been treated elsewhere or in a container such as a wheelbarrow).
*Do not treat edible vegetation or treat within one food out from the drip line of edible plants.
*Do not exceed 2 applications per year for perimeter pests.
*Do not apply to pet quarters or to playground equipment.

IT WORKS!!! Three days after the perimeter of my house was sprayed, no more ants! In twelve years Taurus SC is the only thing that has even touched the ant problem. Now they're gone!

This is a 9.1% suspension of the same active ingredient in Frontline used for treatment against fleas and ticks on domestic animals. It is a non-repelling insecticide. Following the directions for termite treatment I trenched at the perimeter of my home, sprayed and put the dirt back in. I also treated my beech trees by selective injection along the drip lines and allow the root system to translocate the product up the trunks and branches of the trees. This way I avoided unnecessary and indiscriminate killing of beneficial insects such as honey bees. The product works great. It has been two years since I treated my property. So far no signs of harm to good insects because my flowering trees and plants are pollenating just fine. I have no carpenter ants in my yard. Two years carpenter ants were very active. I have recommended this product to my homeowner's association and we are actively trying to save our neighborhood beech trees from the impending woolly beech aphid invasion. One word of caution, follow the directions and apply the product just before insects are actively foraging.

This product is very handy to use with the squeezable pre-measured dispenser with separate cap. It allows the user to measure small amounts to apply in tight spaces when a watering can is used and only one or two gallons are needed at a time. Complete instructions are attached to the bottle so you always have them handy for reference. The same stuff the professionals use at a fraction of the cost!

I have been battling ants in the yard of my new house for 2 years . Tried all the powders and granules and dusts and liquid insect killers labeled for ants, with no luck. I mean, I had hundreds of 3-4 inch ant hills in an area of about 2000 square feet. Mowing the grass on my rider was bone jarring. Sprayed Taurus mixed to label directions on Sunday and by Thursday, all ants were gone! I still see an occasional very small new ant hill, but never see any ants. I speculate a new queen is trying to move in and is being killed by the Taurus. Amazing.

I aplied this product according to the instructions provided by "Do Your Own Pest Control's" youtube video. It was applied fast and with minimal efforts. The Taurus SC product lasts longer and requires less fluid volume drilling to eradicate termites. The price was absolutely unbeatable.

Kathy from Houston, Tx asked:
QIs Taurus SC as effective on termites as it is on ants?
I just came across termites in the garage which is connected to the house. I NEED to know that this product will absolutely lambaste these critters!!! I've read rave reviews about ants...can I look for the same with termites? HELP, PLEASE!!!!
AFipronil, the active ingredient in Taurus, is known to be the best product on the market for termite control. Be sure to read the product label to make sure you are doing the treatment correctly. Our instructions, How to do a Termite Treatment can also be very helpful for homeowners.

Dale from Louisiana asked:
QIs it ok to treat with Termidor or Dominion after using Dursban?
I had a old half gallon of Dursban that I put around my house last year. I didn't trench, but I did soak it in real good. Is it ok to retreat my house with Termidor or dominion? Will the Dursban lessen the affect of the Termidor or Dominion?
A Dursban has been banned for a while so there is little information that can be offered on it. However, Termidor SC or Dominion 2L should be able to be used a year later. We would recommend doing a trench treatment with either one of those products to ensure it lasts in the soil for a while. The Dursban should not lessen the effectiveness of either product.

Michael from Los Angeles, Ca asked:
QPerimeter trench every 10 years for termites vs. ant perimeter treatment every 6 months
Per the instructions, a perimeter treatement in a trench is recommended for termite prevention, vs. a perimeter treatment (above-ground, as I understand) is recommended twice a year for ant treatment. I suspected that ants are entering my house from below the ground through cracks in the concrete slab. Would the trenched perimeter treatment every 10 yeears be effective for BOTH termites and ants?
A A trench treatment with Taurus SC will kill both termites and ants that travel through the treated soil. However, if the ant or termite colony is located directly under the slab of your home there is a possibility that they may not pass through the treated soil around the perimeter of your home as they come through a crack in the foundation. In order to kill ant or termite colonies located under the slab we would recommend drilling through the cracks in the foundation and inject the Taurus SC into the soil below foundation. You would drill a hole every 12 inches along the crack in the slab and use 4 gallons of the diluted Taurus solution per 10 linear feet.

Antonio from 1403 Winterwood Dr Allen,tx 75002 asked:
QIs it safe to spray Taurus SC in the switches and plugs instead of making holes on the walls to treat voids
A Taurus SC Termiticide is not safe to apply into any electrical outlet. It would be most effective injected into the galleries in the wood. When injecting Taurus into the walls you want to drill about 6 inches from the floor surface and between every wooden stud down the entire length of the wall. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
September 16, 2014 Bri asked:
QProperly Treating Attached Garage with Taurus SC
I have an attached garage with a living space above it. To properly treat with Taurus SC, do I trench along the two exterior walls, don't treat the garage entry area (where the wood garage door is), and drill holes (10-12 inches apart) in the interior where the (one) garage wall has living space on the other side?
If you are doing a termite barrier treatment (6 inch x 6 inch trench against the structure) with a termiticide such as Taurus SC around the entire pertimeter of the home, you will not need to drill those exterior walls. The trench will provide your protection. We highly suggest this method as opposed to just "spot treating" areas of the foundation. If you are not doing a termite barrier trench treatment, you will need treat those two exterior walls as you would that interior wall. Drill 1/2 inch holes 2-3 inches off the foundation wall every 10-12 inches along the entire length of the wall. Pour 4 gallons of mixed solution in the holes for every 10 linear feet along the exterior wall (3.2 ounces/4 gallons of water) Each hole will hold 1/2 gallon of solution.

Chris from Va asked:
QTermites in a Fence
I have found that termites have just begun infesting my fence. Is this the correct product for treatment? I have seen that it should be applied around the foundation, however my fence is about 50 feet from my house.
Taurus SC is NOT labeled to be used around fences. You can drill into the fence, but you would need to know exactly where the termites are. For fences, we would recommend a product called Bora-Care. Apply only to bare wood or to wood surfaces where an intact water repellent or finish is not present. Remove paint or finish prior to application. Apply one coat of solution to all wood surfaces. Apply two coats to heavily infested areas and to those surfaces where access is limited to 1 or 2 sides of wood members. For an active infestation, you will use 1 gallon of Bora-Care to 1 gallon of water.

Chris from Houston, Tx asked:
QWhat application method is best for treatment of ants?
To treat ghost ants crawling around, on, and into my foundation, should I trench or just apply a perimeter spray? If the latter, what application rate should be used (i.e., how many fl. oz. per linear foot of a spray band three feet up the wall and one foot out from the foundation)? Thanks

Joel from Miami, Florida asked:
QCan I use Taurus SC to fog within the walls? And if so how much would I need for a 5,000 sq ft home?
Treating Drywood termites
A Taurus SC is not labeled to be used in a fogger and when using to treat for drywood termites you have to treat the infestation directly by drilling into the infested wood and spraying into the gallery. It does not penetrate into wood so would not reach the termites that are in the wood unless done this way. We suggest using Bora-Care since it is the #1 treatment on the market for dry wood termites. You would typically just spray it on the surface of the wood and the Bora-Care will penetrate through the wood and kill the termites inside. Also, since Bora-Care is a wood treatment product, it will stay in the wood forever and protect it forever.

Kaleb from Edmond, Ok asked:
QDoes Taurus SC bond to soil like Termidor does? and does a foaming agent need to be used for application?
Do I need to add a foaming agent to spot treat inside wall voids or is a standard garden/yard, pump up sprayer application sufficient to spray inside the walls?
A Yes the Taurus does bond to the soil the same as the Termidor to acheive the same protection of your home. You do not have to have a foamer and foaming agent to mix with the Taurus and can use it by itself in a standard pump sprayer for wall void spot treatments. While a foam will give you further coverage behind the wall, it is not necessary. If you haven't purchased the products yet, you could get a can of Termidor foam or Premise Foam to use where you plan to spot treat so you dont have to purchase a foaming applicator and foam agent.
