  • Asked by Richard from Baker City, Or

    Q
Replacing bridge timbers. What would be best to use? This product not to be exposed to rain?
    A
Timbor is meant to be used on indoor areas that will not be exposed to the elements. Boracare would be a better choice for bridge timbers but the wood must be sealed after the application with paint, stain or wood sealer.

    Q
    Approximate amount for basement?
The Boracare label gives an approximation or how much solution to use for a typical unfinished basement (floor boards, joists, etc). How much should I use (approximately) on a 1000 square foot unfinished basement?
    A
1.5 pounds of Timbor will treat up to 200 sq. ft of untreated wood. Apply Timbor at a rate of 5 gallons of liquid solution per 1000 square feet of wood surface area. Therefore, you will need to calculate the total of the wood surfaces you wish to treat in the basement to find the amount of Timbor needed.

  • Asked by Luis from San Diego, Ca
    06/20/2017
    Q
Can I paint or stain over Timbor?
    A

Any primer or paint can safely be applied to Timbor treated wood as long as Timbor is completely dry after treatment and dry to the touch.  There should be no issues once it is completely dried.

    Q
What type of respiratory or other protective equipment should be used when applying Tim-bor?
When applying Timbor under an open wood deck with good ventilation should a specific type of protective mask and clothing be used?
    A

Timbor is actually odorless so you don't necessarily have to wear a protective mask but if you desire to do so anyway, we would recommend using an N95 Valved Respiratory Mask.

  • Asked by Angela from Toronto, Ontario
    05/14/2013
    Q
How long after spraying raw ash floors with Timbor can I sand and stain them?
    A
If you were to sand after application of Timbor it could remove the Timbor as Timbor only penetrates approx. 1/4 inch into the wood. We would recommend Boracare as a wood treatment as it will penetrate up to 4 inches into the wood. With both products it is safe to stain after the treated areas have dried.

  • Asked by James from Virginia Beach Va
    08/18/2015
    Q
Can Timbor be airialized as a mist or fogger?
I have had my foundation crawl space Joyce treated in the past to re-mediate mold. The contractor sprays it as a wet solution over everything Joyce insulation piling etc. Then the insulation is wet which causes it to fall Daaaaa really.
    A

Timbor is a wettable powder and as such is not labeled to be fogged. Timbor will clog all foggers because it never truly goes into a solution but instead just goes into a suspension. Please take a few minutes to read the Timbor product label so you can see all of the ways it is labeled to be applied. Please provide additional information on the targeted insect so that we can assist you further. We are always happy to help!

  • Asked by Jason
    01/24/2015
    Q
Can Timbor be used to remediate dry rot? What percent solution should be used?
    A

Timbor should only be used on raw wood that ideally is new. Timbor is not water repellant and it will not take care of any rot or mold on the wood. Timbor will only penetrate 1/4 of an inch into the wood and will leave a visible white residue on the surface. Boracare or Boracare with Mold Care would be your best options. As with Timbor, the Boracare will need to be applied to raw natural wood but it can be old or new. The Boracare will penetrate all the way into the wood and will not leave a visible residue on the surface. If the wood is going to continue to be exposed to the outdoor elements, you will need to seal it with a stain or finish of some sort to protect it. If you do this, the Boracare will last for the life of the wood. Boracare will treat and prevent (depending on the rate you use to dilute it) for wood destroying insects such as powderpost beetles, termites, and carpenter ants, as well as wood destroying fungus/rot. The Boracare with Mold Care will cover all of these same preventative measures and it also kills and prevents mold. Please take a look at the Boracare product label for exact instructions for use. • Asked by Randy from Ottawa, Il.
    11/13/2014
    Q
Can I use Timbor on firewood that will be burned in the house
    A
No, you would not want to burn any wood that has been treated with Timbor or any other insecticide. The manufacturers do not recommend this. Any insecticide should not be breathed in, and when burned these toxins can become airborne. It would be suggested to not burn the wood.

  • Asked by Kevin from California
    07/23/2013
    Q
Will Timbor leave a residue? Bora Care left a glycol residue on all non porous surfaces, i.e metal, wiring, etc
It even left a residue on concrete. It took quite a bit of cleaning. If I switch to Timbor, this residue will not show up. Is this correct?
    A
Timbor leaves a white powder on the surface and is more difficult to paint or stain over.  BoraCare tends to only leave a residue if not mixed well with warm/hot water.

    Q
2 Questions: Disposal & Reuse Timbor
What is the proper way to dispose of any remaining liquid or powder? Is there any issue in reusing a garden sprayer I have for other uses AFTER I have used it to spray Timbor? Thanks!
    A
Disposal of Timbor per label: Wastes resulting from the use of this product may be disposed of on site or at an approved waste disposal facility. Please contact your local sanitation dept. We do not recommend using the same sprayer for gardening.

    Q
Can I put finishes over a reclaimed fir beam after I treat it with Timbor on the interior of a home?
I have several big reclaimed fir (I think) beams going up on the inside of a new home. Can I put something like a clear finish over them after treating with Timbor, after it has dried completely?
    A

Yes, it is recommended that you use a finish and/or sealant after using Timbor. It will potentially dry with a texture so you may have to sand it first.

  • Asked by Anna from Tomah, Wisconsin
    07/09/2018
    Q
My husband and I sprayed a 15% solution on our log siding over the weekend and it dripped and hardened overnig
Last weekend, we pressure-washed, hand-scraped, and washed the siding in a TSP and bleach solution. This was what we thought to be the last step before staining.
    A

Did you pressure wash and scrape the wood after you applied Tim-Bor? If so, you may have removed much or all of your Timbor treatment. Tim-bor should be applied until the surfaces are wet but not to the point of runoff, and it absorbs about ¼ inch into the wood. If you are treating wood that is exterior wood or wood used for decoration or furnishing that will be stained or painted, then it would best to use Boracare to treat the wood before finishing it. Boracare is the liquid version of Timbor, it absorbs more thoroughly into the wood, and it dries clear and smooth when applied correctly.

  • Asked by Tony from Miami, Fl

    Q
I plan on using your Timbor to treat new residence approx. 10,000 sq ft. plus trusses.
Can I use an airless sprayer or other type mechanical spray that can be rented for about 50 to 75 gallons plus high hard to reach attic? Your suggestion please.
    A
We do not see why you could not use Timbor in a mechanical sprayer. Please feel free to contact Nisus at 800-264-0870 to make sure there product will work in the type of sprayer you are looking at.

  • Asked by Granny from Austin, Texas
    11/13/2017
    Q
Can Bora-Care or Tim-bor be rolled on?
    A

Yes, you can apply a solution of either Boracare or Timbor using a sprayer, brush, or roller. Keep in mind that Timbor will not dry completely smooth and clear, so if you are treating wood that is decorative or that will be finished with a stain or paint, then we recommend using Boracare for those applications.

    Q
Timbor was recommended to us to treat wood that is exposed to rain and has rotted.
We were told it is a water repellent that causes water to crystalize. We plan to trim the wood beam back, and prime and paint also. If Timbor does not do this, is there a Boron mineral solution that would? what is your recommendation
    A
Timbor should only be used on raw wood that ideally is new. Timbor is not water repellant and it will not take care of any rot or mold on the wood. • Asked by Becky from Lex, Nc
    07/21/2017
    Q
Will spraying bleach on top of Timbor on floor joists for mold negate Timbor's effect on mold?
Spraying where mold returned or was missed
    A

Timbor does not treat or prevent for mold control. Spraying bleach on top of your application will likely pull or break down some of the particles which likely needs to be done so that you can put a true mold control product like Boracare with Mold Care on your wood to treat it. Also keep in mind, even with the use of proper mold control products to treat wood, if you have mold coming back that is because you have not fixed your moisture problem that is causing it to occur in the first place. You likely want to look at getting a dehumidifier for under your home and in your crawl space or put down a vapor barrier in those areas to cut down on excess moisture accumulating.
