    Response to "I Got Him"

That's NOT a "bait plate". That's the trigger/release for the trap door. Put bait BEYOND it. No hook required.

    Serviciable, but flimsy

    By Gabriel on 01/22/2021

I ordered this because it was close to the size I was looking for, which isn't a size that's particularly easy to find. Most are quite a deal larger than this or too small for a small to average size cat (we're using them for trapping feral kittens and moms). It's the right size and works, but compared to the dozens of other traps I have used, it's really poorly made. It feels much like it was constructed of melted aluminum cans--super light weight, very flimsy, especially for this price (which was about on par with similar and even larger items that are better made/coated with plastic over a steel frame, provide more features, etc). Warning, it's also in no way coated with anything. Not even a basic metal coating or clear spray coat. Suggest that if you buy this, you give it a clear coat before putting outside. It's going to rust. That said, the operation of the mechanism is great and sensitive, shipping was fast. No fault to Do My Own, but i'd honestly skip the Tomahawk brand and look for something more robust if you're trying to trap anything more feisty than a squirrel or kitten. I do believe anything like a skunk or racoon, while they would fit, could break out of this.

    I got him!

    By Shu on 01/22/2015

    Verified Purchase

The Opossum trap worked I bought worked well. Although, I had no-catch for the first couple of nights, I had a pleasure of meeting the naughty juvenile opossum face to face on the third day. My guess for the no-catch is premature tripping due to improper location of the bait. How about providing a hook or something to secure the bait on the bait plate? (I used a hotdog as a bait, and it rolled off the bait plate with slight move of the trap. Trying to correct the bait by poking with a stick can set off the trigger.)

    Trap

    By Audrey on 07/31/2020

May be too small for woodchucks? I haven't captured anything, yet. (after only a few days) The snap on the escape door is hard to get off. I substituted it with a different snap. (Picture wanting to release a skunk or wild, vicious, angry animal....in a hurry!) Other traps have the escape door held up by a metal pin slid across that you can attach a string to and pull the pin out and let the door flop down. I wish the trigger plate raised up a tad higher for easier action.
