Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap

The Trapper® T-Rex Rat Trap  is a state-of-the-art mechanical trap that offers superior rat capture. Patented interlocking teeth make rat escape virtually impossible. With T-Rex you'll get the perfect combination of trigger sensitivity and trap velocity – speed and responsiveness that ensure a successful and deadly capture. Easy to set and safer to use than traditional snap traps, the T-Rex can be placed directly in a Protecta Rat Bait Station, or tied to pipes or beams that rats may use as highways. A bait cup in the center of the trigger pedal makes it easy to add baits including Bell's new Provoke Rat Attractant.

Manufacturers recommendation: Do NOT use peanut butter in traps as the oil in peanut butter can damage the trap.

USE: Place trap along baseboards or in a corner for best results. You can use nuts, nesting material like a small piece of cotton, or small amount of nutella in the trap for bait.

Trapper T-REX offers superior rat capture. Patented, interlocking teeth make rat escapes virtually impossible. The trap is a perfect combination of trigger sensitivity and trap velocity -- speed and responsiveness ensure capture. Extensive field and laboratory testing fine-tuned Trapper T-REX to optimum specifications.

Safer and easier to use than competitor's snap traps, Trapper T-REX can be readily set by foot safely on the ground. Press the trap open like a pedal, keeping fingers free and safe.

Bell included a removable bait cup that inserts from the bottom of Trapper T-REX. The cup can be withdrawn and re-inserted without the trap being set, which greatly enhances safety and ease of use.

You can use Trapper T-REX along a rat pathway. Or you can insert it into a tamper-resistant bait station. Trapper T-REX easily fits inside the Protecta Rat Bait Station and Protecta Sidewinder bait stations.

2 of 5 stars  T Rex Rat Trap - Could be improved
By John in Tucson, AZ on 04/20/2010

I bought a 12 pack of this trap. The good thing is that they are very easy to set and to release. There are two serious problems. 1 - As others have mentioned, the striking force is much less than a normal old fashioned trap.  I have already had one case of a rat suffering, not dead, even though he was trapped by the head. 2 - The quality is not acceptable. After one use two traps broke. One broke its plastic catch and one broke at the plastic hinge area.

5 of 5 stars  Sturdy and easy to use
    By Joseph on 11/16/2006

I like the  Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap very much, it is sturdy and easy to set. Do not use the bait cup included because the rat will just steal it without touching anything. You need to smear some peanut butter on the trigger. Also, the way this trigger is designed, you can adjust it for sensitivity. Basically the way it is the trigger needs to be pushed down almost a quarter inch before it is set off if you just set it and forget it, like this I doubt you will ever catch anything. But if you hold onto the grip and at the same time push the trigger down almost level to the top of the bait dish, just slightly above it where the edge of sensitivity is, I believe you will have better luck with it. Do this after you smeared a thin coat of peanut butter on the trigger and then set it to the edge of sensitivity.

5 of 5 stars  Easy to use
    By Ken on 11/20/2005

My Trapper T-Rex trap virtually decapitated a giant wood rat. They are easy to use. Easy to set. Do not get your fingers in this one. I recommend using fishing line to secure the trap to something. If a rat gets a paw stuck in it he will drag it away and you will have to track it down. At $7 each, I don't like hunting my T-Rex. But the rats like them even less.

This is by far the best trap I have used. I get the occasional rats from nearby fields and have used the wood traps with limited success in consecutive days. It took one night with the T-Rex Rat Trap. Highly recommended.

    By Mark on 04/15/2007

Easy to use and effective. The Trapper T-Rex traps are easier and safer to handle than the conventional spring trap. And they fit (and work) in smaller areas. Peanut butter works great. Like the others, I've learned to secure them in place.

These are great traps for a limited time, as the spring and related assemblies rust and/or loose tension. Consider these traps as good for one or two kills

These are powerful traps! Put them out the first night using berries as recommended by our pest guy...Well, not a good move. They snatched them right out of the trap. You need to use something sticky like p-nut butter with some bacon so they have to work to remove it then setting off the trap.

When they work, they are great. Had a problem with the critters getting the goods and getting away. Manually set the traps off a few times to break them in, plus shoved the bait down into the cup so they would have to crawl in to get to it. Successful with most of the traps.

I've had good luck with these. One failed after a year and several catches. Tried an Ortho trap from the hardware store but it broke within a week. Now I'm keeping T-Rex spares on hand. Quick service from DMOPC.

I purchased four T-Rex Rat Traps. The 1st week I trapped about 18 Norway rats that were under my storage shed. I could not believe it. The 1st day one of traps broke while using my foot to set it. That made me mad. I swore I would not purchase any more of this traps. All the rats were trapped using only (3) out of the(4) that I purchased. The end result made me very happy. The shipment was FREE and very fast. Yes, I will purchase these traps again. I highly recommend the traps and this company Called Thanks again!

5 of 5 stars  These work and are easy to manage!!
By in Flower Mound, Texas on 06/03/2013

I've been using the old fashioned traps which usually work OK once you get it set and placed which usually isn't easy or done the first time. Being used outside, they'll be useless before long. These T-Rex traps are amazing! I used them in bait boxes so the dogs don't get them, and to keep the rat protected so it's easier to get rid of. Regardless of whether the rat gets in the box and manages to not get it's head in, it's going off and the rat's not going anywhere. I found one caught by the tail this morning, tried to drag the box away but only digging pretty good holes around it. I place these with the tunnel in the box in the path of where I think they may travel and for the last 2 weeks I'm not even baiting them!! Only 1 time did I find a trap tripped and no rat. Dumping them is super easy too. I've yet to have one in a condition where it didn't pretty much just fall out of the trap once I opened it, with one hand. Set one handed too. These are fantastic! Over a year so far on 2 and they'll slamming rodents like champs! I see no reason they won't last many years, vs. a couple months at best for the tradition hand smasher traps.

1 of 5 stars  rat trap hat for squirrels
By David in Rhode island on 03/14/2012

I purchased 4 of these to catch rats that have started to appear in the yard. I set the trap which is easy to use, and was curious how well they wouils work. It took about 4 hours, and SNAP. I go look outside and there is a squirrel rolling around with the trap stuck on his head. Not Good, he was able to get free, and I was trying to decide what to do, when 2 more snapped and this time the traps were stuck on the squirrels heads and the squirrels ran up the tree with traps on their heads. traps gone. Tie them down.

5 of 5 stars  Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap
By John in Gloucester, MA on 10/06/2010
    Verified Purchase

Works great! Easy to bait and set. Fits perfectly inside the Protecta bait station. I skipped the rat attractant and just used peanut butter - worked fine, although if you have a lot of traps liquid attractant is probably faster. I have 3 dogs and wanted to be sure they didn't get poisoned or set off the trap. I live 1/4mi from the ocean in MA so wharf rats are looking for a home this time of year - the stone foundation of my 100+ year old house likely has some gaps and a rat got inside several years ago - no fun at all. I placed several Protecta stations/T-Rex traps around the perimeter/exterior of my foundation and got a rat within days.

I was thinking it was not as good as the Victor rat trap but my wife will not use those so I bought 4 T-Rex's and I've caught 4 rats in one "dead" outside, and none up in the attic so thats a good thing with the other 3. Works GREAT easy to use smear peanut butter on the peddle and becuase of the weight I had to lift it to get it too set. Awesome... But my wife still will not mess with them....

    By D.s. on 04/03/2006

Worked the first night I set it up. Put peanut butter into the bait cup and set it up in the afternoon on the roof near the front door. Next morning I found the Trapper T-Rex rat trap with the dead roof rat securely between the interlocking teeth ... this was on the front porch just near the front door. I'll have to secure the trap with a zip tie or fishing line next time.

QBest way to rid attic in our house of rats?
I don't want to use poison and have rotting rat carcasses in my attic.

AThe best way to get rid of the rats that are already in your attic is to trap them with rat snap traps, rat glue boards and/or live catch rat traps. We do not recommend using poison baits indoors because after the rats eat the bait they may go into an inaccessible area to die causing a terrible odor and possibly even a secondary insect infestation (it is a myth that there is a poison bait that will cause the rats to dry out and not smell or to leave the house in search of water). It is important that you place the traps directly in the rats travel path and bait them with an attractive bait such as nuts, dog kibble, canned tuna or peanut butter. Be patient, it could take several days or even a couple of weeks before the rats are comfortable enough with the traps to approach them and be captured. After you have eliminated your current infestation you must take the time to exclude rodents from entering your home in the future. Please take a few moments to read our article: How to Rodent Proof Your Home

QCan the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap be used more than once?

Yes, the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap can be used over and over again. In fact, once you catch a rat on this trap it will be even more effective because it will have the scent pheromone of a rat which is very curious to other rodents.

QIs the rat dead inside the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap? Is he maimed? How do you dispose of it?

ARats caught in the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap are usually killed pretty quickly. How you dispose of the rat will vary from region to region, but in most cases you will simply squeeze the trap to release the dead rat directly into a plastic bag, seal the bag and toss in an outdoor trash can.

QCan the T-Rex trap and kill a fox squirrel?
I have a problem with fox squirrels eating my avocados. I need a trap that can do the job without leaving them alive. It is against the law to release this invasive species back into the wild.

AMany of our customers have reported that they have successfully used the Trapper T-Rex Rat Traps to kill squirrels. We are not familiar with Fox squirrels but we assume that they are about the size of a rat  which would mean that the Trapper T Rex Rat Trap should be able to successfully trap and kill this species. Some communities do have ordinances that prevent you from trapping and killing squirrels so we encourage you to check with the local authorities to be that you are acting within their guidelines.

QWill a rat visit the trap again once it is sprung?

AYes. Often times the pheromone left behind by rodents that have already visited the trap will help draw other rodents to it. Be sure to add fresh bait to help lure the rodents in. If you have a rat that has managed to set off the trap but did not get caught (very rare with the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap) you may want to disguise the trap a bit to avoid a rat that is trap shy. You can simply place the trap inside of a shoebox with holes cut on either end to allow the rat to enter. This will look different to the rat and the rat will usually not avoid the trap inside.

QCan the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap be used outdoors without limitation?
Can the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap be used outdoors without limitation? Are there MSDS and labels for this product, if so where?

AThe Trapper T-Rex Rat Traps can be used outdoors at your discretion. When using outdoors you should place the traps out of reach of children and non-target animals or place the traps in tamper resistant bait stations to avoid accidents. There is no MSDS sheet for the T-Rex as it is not a chemical product. Usage directions will be included with the purchase and we have a T-Rex product video available on the T-Rex page that shows step by step how to use the trap properly.

QSmart rats: Can I adjust the sensitivity of a T-Tex Rat Trap trigger?
Last weekend, I placed six pairs of T-Rex traps, baited with Provoke, back-to-back on rat runways in my crawlspace, along with a dozen rat glue traps. Net result: 0 kills/captures, but the bait's been cleaned out twice. These rats are exhibiting a real nuanced touch, and a healthy appetite. Any advice?

AThe sensitivity cannot be adjusted, but if they are taking the bait and not tripping the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap then usually this means you are putting too much bait in the bait cup.  You should place only 1 small drop in the bottom of the bait cup so the rodents really have to "get into the cup" and usually this will result in a set trigger.  You can also try a tiny dab of peanut butter in the bottom...something a little stickier may result in better results depending on the behavior of the rodents.

QExcrement dropping appeared in the basement wall under an exterior vent. I do not know what they are from.
Excrement droppings were found on the painted cinder block wall 4' off the ground, just below an unopened exterior vent. There are approximately 50 pieces, each being between 3/4 to 1 inch in length, and very thin, approximately .7mm. The tips of each end are sharp, and not blunt. There are no droppings on the floor, and the droppings appear to adhere to the wall. On the wall above, below, and to each side, I put up 8"X12" catchmaster glue boards, and on the vent opening, I lined the ledge with mice snap traps. I have caught nothing on the glue boards and the mice traps have not been disturbed in over a week. I can supply a picture of the dropping on the wall with a dime held up to give a relevant comparison. Any help you give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and effort in this endeavor.

AThe droppings that you are describing sound like roof Rat Droppings. Roof Rat Droppings are described as "at least 3/4 inch long with pointed ends". Roof rats cannot be caught with mouse glueboards or mouse snap traps. We do carry Rat Glue Board Traps and Rat Snap Traps that would be more suited to this job. Baiting the traps with canned cat food or tuna fish, nuts, small pieces of floss or cotton balls (nesting materials) may also help to draw this species of rat into the traps. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

QWhich rat trap will catch the rats--ie not kill them with bait?

AWe have several rat snap traps and rat glue board traps available. These traps do not require poison bait to kill the rats.

QI don't want to kill my chipmunks. Will they be drawn to the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap also?

The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap may attract chipmunks if there is a desirable edible in the bait cup. We would recommend using traps in areas where you have rodent activity where the chipmunks will not come in contact with it.
