What can I use to kill the ants and not harm bees where I have carpenter ants on my honey bee hives?

Answer:

It is common for ants to be attracted to either the bee larvae or to the honey for food, so if we are not able to tell, then we want to offer both kind of food sources to the ants. Unfortunately, products do not have specific labeling for use in or on honey bee hives, so we can only recommend what other uses have reported in this case. Some folks have had success using bait plate stations filled with two types of bait in the area near where we see the ant activity. You may want to use some tape to make the opening into the bait plat stations even smaller so that the bees would not be able to enter the stations. You could then use Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel and Advance Carpenter Ant Bait granules in each side of the bait plate stations. You can also use these baits in other areas where you see ant activity in the yard and indoors.
