What is the best selective herbicide to kill thistle in VA

Thistle plants have invaded my front flower bed that contains mature azaleas. I have thistle plants growing up in the azaleas and they have spread like wildfire in the bed in front of the azaleas. I have pulled them out by hand; I have used a hoe: I have used a vinegar solution; I tried to smother them with landscaping fabric and mulch. Nothing has worked. Hope you have something for me. I certainly appreciate the product, Talstar that I bought from you for our invasion of stink bugs... the product was incredible!

Answer:

You can use a round up type product like eraser as a spot treatment, but if you want to get rid of the thistle selectively you can use Lontrel.  You can apply Lontrel over your flowers, shrubs, etc and it will only kill the grassy weeds, like thistle.
