I am trying to handle rat control in my back yard. What is the best way with a dog back there?

We have a hot back out back that has been broken for quite some time. I know the rats are living inside the area with the motor. I have thrown poison in there but am afraid if they drag a piece out my dog might get a hold of it. They have also started building tunnels underneath our wood deck. Do I need to hire someone instead of doing it myself?

Answer:

We would recommend anchoring some rat bait stations back there with some Trapper T-Rex traps inside. This will eradicate the rats without the concern of any bait.
