Casoron 4G Herbicide

Casoron 4G is a selective pre-emergence herbicide that prevents many variety of weeds and grasses. Casoron 4G controls weeds before they emerge from the ground, by forming an herbicidal vapor barrier in the upper layer of the soil when activated by rainfall or irrigation water. Casoron 4G should be applied before weed seed germination and emergence from the soil (usually from mid-winter to early spring). A single application will usually provide season-long weed control.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Perennial Weed Control

Apply CASORON 4G as a soil surface treatment in late fall from November 15 to February 15. Old weed growth should not be removed before application. Do not make surface application to areas which have been cultivated during the fall or summer prior to application.

Annual Weed Control

Apply CASORON 4G either in early spring before seeds of annual weeds germinate or after cultivation has removed the growing weeds. Distribute granules uniformly over the soil surface. If treatment is followed by application of 1/2 to 1 inch of water by overhead irrigation, the lower rates are recommended. Shallow incorporation immediately after application is recommended in southern areas. In other areas, shallow incorporation or sprinkler irrigation is suggested when applications are made during periods of high temperature.

Nut Sedge Control

CASORON 4G can be used for control of nutsedge in non-crop areas only. Apply recommended rates and incorporate immediately to a depth of 4 to 6 inches. Seasonal control of annual weeds will also be obtained with this application.

This was a gift sent to my son to rid the hill from weeds and having to maintain each spring, but I used this product in Montana when my home had small gravel surrounding it. Spread this all around as spring was arriving and NEVER were there any weeds growing all around my home or down the driveway. Everyone wondered how I did that!!

QOur church has a gravel parking lot in AZ. What pre emergent can we use to prevent tumbleweeds from coming?

ACasoron Herbicide will be a good choice to control Russian thistle (aka tumbleweed). Treating gravel lots can be tough because it is hard to contact the soil and the soil is usually very dry. To help get the Casoron granules to the soil you must heavily irrigate the area after the application. Casoron is a mild soil sterilant, so it is very important not to put it in areas where it will contact desirable plants or in areas where you will soon want to grow new plants.

QWe have a large yard. Is there a weed control product (Caseron) that lasts a year?
If so, which month is best to apply? The Caseron does not last an entire year. I know you need to put it down before the weeds begin to grow again, but I'm hoping we don't have to apply it twice a year. It sure helps prevent weeds growing; which saves on Roundup usage. Thank you for answering the question and any advice you might have.

AUnfortunately there is not a weed control like Casoron that will provide you year long prevention from weeds growing, the only products that provide year long control are bareground herbicides such as Pramitol. Casoron is labeled to give season long control, but you will need to reapply because it does not have and post emergent qualities. Dimension 2EW gives pre and post emergent control for labeled weeds.

QHow late in the year can I spread Casoron 4G Herbicide to be effective?

A

Casoron 4G Herbicide is a pre-emergent herbicide that would control weeds before they emerge from the ground†by forming an herbicidal vapor barrier in the upper layer of the soil when activated by rainfall or irrigation. We recommend that it should be applied before weed seed germination and emergence from the soil (usually from mid-winter to early spring).†

QCan Casoron 4G Herbicide be used around established roses and ornamental grass

ACasoron 4G Herbicide would work great around the roses. We would not recommend to use it around ornamental grasses, because it could cause injury. Casoron 4G Herbicide works by causing "tissue damage" to the roots. Since, grasses are rooted shallow, this product could stunt the ornamental grass growth.

QFor how long is soil contaminated for food plants after Casoron application?
My neighbor applied Casoron in his yard last fall. Consequently, my raspberry bushes died for 4-6 feet from the fence line. Is it safe to eat raspberries this year from remaining plants? How soon can I replant in that area?

A

Casoron 4G Herbicide†is actually labeled to be used around established raspberries so it would be fine around any that survived and bears fruit. †Since it can stay in the soil for at least 1 year, you would need to wait at least one year after application to replant or remove the treated soil and replace with new.

QWill Casoron 4G Herbicide kill Mediterranean Sage?
I have a terrible Mediterranean Sage problem have tried commercial Roundup, Crossbow, and Pendulum and it keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

A

Casoron 4G is not labeled for Mediterranean sage at all.† We are not aware of any pre-emergents that are labeled for use on sage to prevent it from coming up or coming back.† Most applications are done with a post-emergent herbicide that is used throughout the growing season to control it as it comes up.† A product like Gordons Pasture Pro is labeled to control Mediterranean sage and can be used at up to 2 oz per gallon of water.† Gly Pho-Sel Pro Dry 75 also lists sage in general on the label and can be used per the label at up to 7 oz per gallon. Gly Pho Sel is one of the highest percentage glyphosate (Roundup-type) products on the market but it is a non-selective herbicide so you will want to be careful with application if desirable vegetation is nearby.†
