5 of 5 stars  Kills poa annua in centipede
By Rich in Columbia, SC on 02/22/2015
    Verified Purchase

After fighting poa annua for the last few years it is good to find something that works. It seems expensive for such a small amount of product, but the amount used per gallon of water is so small it is cost effective. Works much better than the atrazine I used before. Great product and produced results in only 2 weeks.

5 of 5 stars  Quackgrass Dead On Arrival!
By Ken in Indian Trail on 05/26/2016

Used properly per instruction, quack grass started turning yellow on 3rd day, bright yellow by the 7 day, and wilting over 2 weeks out. Must use the Dyne Amic with this product. See my other review for (Drive) product. Newly planted Princess 77 lawn. Killed all the Quackgrass, the Bermuda kept smiling!

5 of 5 stars  Green Kyllinga in Florida St Augustine grass
By Homeowner in Florida on 04/30/2014

I applied Certainty to my St Augustine lawn in April. The St Augustine did not show any signs of stress. Kyllinga did not shrivel up and die the next day, but it did stop coming up in my lawn. I'm very satisfied. The rest of the 1.25 oz bottle should last me for years to come so it is cost effective in the long run.

By Jeff in Montgomery, Alabama on 07/07/2015

I had a bad infestation on nutsedge and we were getting a lot of rain everyday decided to mix it up and give it a shot in front of the rain one day only three hours before receiving half an inch of rain but within 7 days the sedge is already 90% dead. Well worth the money

5 of 5 stars  The best results ever!
By Dennis in Leland, NC on 08/08/2015
    Verified Purchase

This stuff really works. Results are slow, 2-3 weeks, but follow directions, use a good quality surfactant, and watch weeds disappear. Even with the blistering heat from this summer, no turf damage, no discoloration- except for the dying weeds, both sedge/grasses and broadleaf! In my centipede lawn, the best results I've ever achieved.

3 of 5 stars  Certainty Herbicide
By Al in Texas on 05/09/2017

Used as directed for nut sedges, first attempt very poor results. After three weeks, will reapply and will post update. The very thick nut sedge I had to use Round Up because it has taken over that area and was afraid to wait anymore for Certainty to work. Three stars and pending...

By Marilyn in Kiln, MS on 10/02/2016

Works well in Sprayer. Expensive but if it rids yard of certain weeds, I am all for it. In the South, we really have a problem with Nutsedge.

4 of 5 stars  Good but a bit slow
By Charles in Athens AL on 08/30/2016

Another product, like Metsulfuron, that I use to remove cool season grasses from Bermuda, but which also works on sedges, and is similarly slow like Metsulfuron. Wait a week or two in spring and the poa will die off. Together with AmTide in the same bottle with surfactant, you can eradicate fescue and poa. When mixed with MSMA later in summer, it will really knock out dallisgrass, though you could just get rid of dallis with only MSMA. It comes with a little measuring spoon in the box to help you get the right amount per gallon of water.

By Jason in Little Rock on 04/18/2017

Didn't touch weeds in my Bermuda lawn. Been 2 1/2 weeks with ZERO effect on any variety. Read directions carefully. Mixed in back pack sprayer, with surfactant, and blue marking dye to see overlaps. Disappointing.

QControlling quackgrass in Kentucky Bluegrass
The Michigan State University extension website says "If your lawn is primarily Kentucky bluegrass, there is a selective herbicide that will remove the quackgrass without killing the rest of your lawn. This product is only available to professional lawn care operators, and they need to make two applications on a 14-day interval. The name of the product is Certainty." However, your Q&A section includes an answer that says Certainty is not "labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass." Can you clarify the apparent disconnect?

ASince we do not make this product we have to go by what the manufacturer supplies us with. Kentucky Bluegrass is not on the label so we have to assume it cannot be used on that type of grass. However, here is Monsanto's telephone number 800-332-3111. We recommend contacting Monsanto and speaking with the customer service agent there to verify if this product is safe for kentucky Bluegrass.

QHow soon can I re-seed after application of Certainty?
Live in MA. Have a predominantly KBG lawn, with some tall fescue creeping in places that I would like to get rid of. After application, how soon can I re-seed any bare spots or over-seed the whole lawn? Thanks!

AAccording to the product label, you should wait at least 3 weeks before re-seeding or over-seeding with Certainty.

QQuackgrass - Is Q4 effective at killing quackgrass?
Are there any chemicals available through your company that can eradicate quackgrass?

AQuackgrass is a grassy weed, so you need a product labeled for grassy weeds.  Certainty is our most popular product for quackgrass and other grassy weeds.

QI am applying Certainty Herbicides and the instructions indicate I need Non-ionic surfactant. What would be an example of that?
I will be applying this to my bluegrass lawn.

AWe offer DyneAmic Surfactant on our website. DyneAmic is a high quality non-ionic surfactant that greatly enhances the effectiveness of Certainty and other herbicides and fungicides on lawns, ornamentals, trees and landscape areas. The surfactant helps penetrate the natural waxy tissue of plants.

QHow do I kill tall fescue in a KBG lawn?
I thought I was going to be able to use Certainty to kill the tall fescue in my KBG lawn until I read the note on the label change after 2011. What is the right product to use now?

AWe do not carry a product that will take fescue out of kentucky blue grass.  Unfortunately they are so closely related that you cannot selectively remove it with any product that we are aware of.  Your best option in this scenario is to kill the fescue with a Ranger Pro (glyphosate) product and then re-seed with your KBG.

QCan I use Certainty to effectively treat yellow nutsedge in my flower bed?
While at the same time ensuring it does not kill my ornamentals in the flower bed.

A

Certainty is only labeled to be used in woody ornamental plantings and perennial groundcovers.  It may harm flowers if they are sprayed or drift contacts them.  Care should be taken to avoid this and only use as a spot spray directly to the nutsedge in this area.

QCan you spray Certainty over daylillies?

QCan Fusilade II be used to effectively eliminate Quackgrass from a Kentucky Bluegrass lawn?

A

Fusilade Herbicide would not be recommended for KY Bluegrass. Quackgrass, unfortunately, is too closely related to Kentucky Bluegrass and most products that will kill quackgrass will also severely damage, if not kill, the KBG. The common recommendation is to kill the quackgrass with a glyphosate product like Roundup and then reseed with KBG. You might also check with a master gardener or local landscaping company in your area for their best recommendation.

QWhen do you apply Certainty to sticker bushes?

A

Certainty Herbicide is a post-emergent herbicide so this means it only kills weeds that are already emerged from the soil. You can spray Certainty Herbicide on a yard or target weed whenever the weed is actively growing. Refer to the product label for mix rates and cover areas.

QHow do I dilute Certainty Herbicide to treat dallisgrass?
Or could you tell me How many gallons of water with one bottle of Certainty mix for? Spraying for Dallisgrass in the fall.

A

Per the Certainty Herbicide product label for dallisgrass suppression, you would use 1.25 oz per acre.  This would be mixed in 10-50 gallons per acre. The amount of water you use will vary as the water acts as the carrier.  For smaller areas, you would use 5 small (or 1 large) scoop per 2 gallons of water to cover 1000 sq ft.  At this rate one bottle will cover one acre.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions for treatment and tank mixing recommendations.
